I Am Your Natural Enemy

Chapter 111: Chapter 74 Long-Term Agreement, Top Priority (5k)_3

Zhuge Wanjun’s Foreigner profession, much like her conventional one, was that of a lawyer. This step was definitely in accordance with rules and procedures.

It’s just unknown what effect it would have after signing.

Wen Yan put down the document and looked towards Zhuge Wanjun.

Zhuge Wanjun immediately said, ”You should have finished reading it, sir. This is just a necessary procedure. Since you are not my client, there are some things I cannot discuss in detail with you, according to the rules.”

”I’m not a professional. What’s the difference between these two documents?”

”’Short-term client’ literally means short-term, normal cooperation. This includes ordinary cooperation as well as professional cooperation.”

Wen Yan nodded. Ordinary cooperation naturally meant cooperation as an ordinary person, while professional cooperation was that between Professionals, with their abilities being utilized. This woman initially gave him two options, limiting his choice to these two. If she had only provided one, the choice would simply be to sign or not to sign. Wen Yan had heard about this kind of trick from Old Xi; he always used it when selling services to clients, and it had always been very effective.

”’Long-term client,’ naturally, implies long-term cooperation. As they would be a top-priority client, their interests become my primary concern. For any consultation they require, I am obligated to provide professional answers from their perspective, putting their needs first.”

Watching Zhuge Wanjun expound these points so clearly and methodically, Wen Yan suddenly asked, ”Do you know Fake Mo Zhicheng?”

Zhuge Wanjun revealed a standard smile. ”No comment.”

Wen Yan nodded. He was starting to understand what Zhuge Wanjun’s lawyer profession entailed. Her Foreigner profession, though its strength was limited, was far more potent than that of an ordinary lawyer. This agreement was an inviolable contract. No wonder Zhuge Wanjun could thrive in the gray areas, garnering so much trust from Different Races. Those Different Races might not trust people, but they would likely trust a contract backed by a mysterious Blessing.

”May I ask, how many people have you signed this long-term employment agreement with?”

”Are you specifically referring to humans?”

”No.”

”Then just one.”

”And if you were specifically referring to humans?”

”Then none. Human hearts are too complex; there’s no perfect agreement.”

”Good, I understand.”

Wen Yan took out the long-term agreement and signed Su Yue’s name.

He watched as his signature, burning like fire, slowly imprinted itself onto the document. Then, the flames spread over all the text, including Zhuge Wanjun’s signature.

The flames consumed all the words, reducing the agreement to several blank sheets of paper. Finally, it transformed into two streams of light, which entered the minds of Wen Yan and Zhuge Wanjun respectively.

Those words were deeply etched in his heart, never to be forgotten.

Having completed the agreement, Zhuge Wanjun finally let out a long breath, picked up her chopsticks, and began to eat.

”Freshly made food really does taste better. Not many tea houses insist on making everything from scratch these days.”

Wen Yan smiled. He could tell that Zhuge Wanjun had only now truly relaxed. Just moments ago, she had seemed constrained by something, constantly on edge. Moreover, he noticed that Zhuge Wanjun did seem to be genuinely hungry.

When they were almost done eating, Wen Yan asked the same question again.

”Do you know Fake Mo Zhicheng?”

”I know him. His nickname is ’Glasses.’ He possesses a magical treasure, a pair of frameless glasses, that allows him to transform into anyone’s appearance. The more accurately he imitates someone, the better the effect. If he himself firmly believes he is that person, then not even a DNA test would be able to detect that he’s an impostor. Unfortunately, he also possesses a power that can brainwash people. The words he speaks can imprint on minds like mental steel stamps, convincing people of their authenticity. The closer his brainwashing attempts are to the truth, the more effective they are, and the longer the brainwashing continues, the stronger the effect becomes. So, aside from those glasses, there’s no other way to be certain it’s him.”

”Can you tell me why you came to find me?” Wen Yan was curious about this.

”I had never seen him before, but I met him once a few days ago. His power is growing stronger. I thought I could resist his brainwashing, but I was wrong. I didn’t manage to resist it completely. I have now merely completed negotiations and reached a compromise with the brainwashed part of myself. He tasked me with two things. The first was to use you to retrieve something from the Old Ice Warehouse. The brainwashed me had to come here to see you, and I also wanted to see you. It’s just a pity he’s too arrogant, too overconfident in his own abilities. He believes that signing an agreement, putting things in black and white, creates a huge hidden danger and means he can no longer remain concealed. I’ve been brainwashed, so naturally, I wouldn’t tell these things to others. However, since you are an interested party and also my long-term client, I can act according to the agreement to protect the interests of the client who holds top priority. The procedure is completely correct; even the brainwashed me cannot prevent me from doing this.”

Wen Yan sized up Zhuge Wanjun. He understood that, true to what was recorded in her file, she had once again chosen her side before a critical moment arrived. Of course, it was more likely that she also knew full well that being targeted by someone like Fake Mo Zhicheng was destined for a bad end. Better to switch sides first and deal with the consequences later.

”What does he want to take from the Old Ice Warehouse?”

”It’s unclear at the moment. It’s probably something he wanted to get last time.”

”And the second thing?”

”Find the Soul Devouring Beast, then brainwash it and gain control over it.”

”Hah...” Wen Yan couldn’t help but laugh out loud. This time he really couldn’t hold it back. Wen Yan had read the descriptions; the Soul Devouring Beast was said to be immune to all known forms of damage. Trying to brainwash a Soul Devouring Beast was pure folly. How could a being, one that the Natural Enemy Profession itself had labeled ’Invincible,’ be so easily brainwashed?

”He has already found traces of the Soul Devouring Beast. It should be within the Chemical Plant Domain, but I’m not very clear on the specifics.”

”So, that means he’ll probably go to the Chemical Plant Domain soon, right?”

”Yes.”
