I Only Wanted A Class In The Apocalypse

Chapter 1897: The Dragons!

The spy adjusted the orb, and it flickered to life, projecting a crystalline image into the centre of the Hector council chamber. The playback was extensive, spanning over twenty-four hours of footage.

For roughly half of that duration, the angle was poorly positioned, capturing only the backs of the subjects as they sat amidst the luxury of the resort. However, for the remaining twelve hours, the camera angle was perfect.

As the images played, the elder activated his lip-reading treasure. The artefact pulsed with a soft, rhythmic light, and a synthesised voice began to fill the hall, overlaying the silent movements of Hye and Moth with clarity.

When the recording finally reached its conclusion, the silence in the room was deafening. The expressions on the faces of the Hector higher-ups were a sight to behold—a volatile cocktail of immense shock, gnawing doubt, and flat-out disbelief.

”Damn! That kid… did he just rob the Hescos of their entire treasury?!” one of the elders finally barked, his voice cracking.

Even with the gaps in the translation, the sheer magnitude of the transaction was staggering.

The volume of bones being discussed, the numbers being tossed around with such casual indifference by the human, was enough to send a chill down the spine of every seasoned leader sitting in that hall. It was a trade of such scale that it felt like an economic shift in the universe itself.

”It feels less like a trade and more like he abducted their precious girl and held her for ransom,” another elder noted, letting out a deep, weary sigh. ”But what I truly cannot fathom is how those resort bastards let him walk away.

That portal… it shouldnʼt have been able to manifest. A gateway like that cannot be opened without the explicit consent of the resortʼs owners, right?”

Every eye in the chamber swivelled toward the spy. The young man shifted uncomfortably, feeling the weight of the collective gaze. ”I… I am not entirely certain, sirs.

Even Moth of the Hescos seemed genuinely perplexed. She mentioned that having a portal tear through a total blockage like that was… unprecedented.”

”I say this is a shadow-play orchestrated by the resort owners themselves, and Moth simply fell into the trap!” one elder proclaimed. However, his theory was met with sceptical frowns and dismissive murmurs from his peers. The evidence didnʼt quite fit a simple set-up.

”We need to conduct far more intensive research into this human,” a senior elder advised, his fingers drumming rhythmically on the arm of his stone chair.

”He has begun to attract far too much attention from the wrong sectors of the universe. As for the girl, she is a Hescos; she is not our concern. We should turn our focus to the truly critical intel weʼve gathered today: that expedition the Hescos are planning in tandem with the kid.”

He hit the nail on the head. While the astronomical deal had shaken them, they viewed the materials being traded—souls and bones—as relatively low-valued commodities in the grand scheme of galactic power.

If the deal had involved high-end technology or classified celestial secrets, their reaction would have been far more aggressive. But the planned expedition to the Outer Battlefield? That changed the calculus entirely.

”The Outer Battlefield is nothing but an abyss for talent and a graveyard for the strong!” an elder bellowed, his face flushing with discontent. ”Let them send their strongest fleets into that meat-grinder. None will return! They are throwing away their future on a foolʼs errand!”

”Some may say it is a graveyard, yet others view it as a land of limitless fortune and ancient treasure,” another remarked coolly. ”Regardless of our opinion on the destination, it is clear that the Hescos are preparing to make a massive move out there. The real question is: How can we manipulate this situation to serve our best interests?”

”That is the only question that matters,” the senior elder agreed. ”I suspect we are the first race outside of the Hescos themselves to get wind of this development. I doubt any other race will hear of this until it is far too late to react.

We have a temporal advantage—a window of opportunity. We must decide now: shall we extend a friendly hand to the Hescos, or shall we become the ghost that haunts their expedition?”

Throughout the entire debate, it was telling that they never truly focused on Hye as an individual power. To the Hectors, he was a catalyst, a curious anomaly, but not a peer. Although Hye had clashed with and defeated members of their race in the past, the high council viewed those confrontations as minor border skirmishes, beneath their direct attention.

However, the elder was mistaken about their exclusive intel. Far across the stars, another race had managed to intercept the same whispers: the Dragons.

The Dragons were a breed apart, notorious throughout the universe for an arrogance so profound it bordered on the pathological.

They were so self-conceited that they had virtually severed ties with all other species, viewing themselves as a superior caste of existence. This was bolstered by many factors, not least of which was their mysterious, almost mythical origin that predated most modern civilisations.

Hye had crossed paths with Dragons multiple times within the Apocalypse, often coming out on top. Yet, to the Dragon High Lords, he didnʼt even register as a threat. They had never spared him a second glance, considering him a mere insect.

In their eyes, the only entities worthy of their attention were those who dared to call themselves the kings and queens of the universe—the other ”Great Races.” To a Dragon, everyone else was just background noise in a universe meant for their eventual reclaimed glory.

But the news of the Outer Battlefield was a frequency even the Dragons couldnʼt ignore.

But this time, it was destined to be different! Hyeʼs meeting with Moth wasnʼt well known in the universe yet, but news of it had begun to spread through the tight, exclusive circle of the top races like a wildfire in a dry forest.
