I Only Wanted A Class In The Apocalypse

Chapter 1886: The Gorgalrin Diamond

Seeing those flashing windows again brought a strange, unexpected warmth to his chest. He hadnʼt realised how much he missed the cold, mechanical feedback of the System.

A gut instinct told him this was only the beginning; he was going to see many more of these messages in the very near future.

”Is everything alright?” Olana asked, her eyes darting between Hye and the huddle of fearful leaders.

When she looked at the world leaders with her piercing, analytical gaze, they physically flinched. To them, her scrutiny was a death sentence. They began to murmur among themselves, desperately trying to figure out if they had inadvertently insulted the tyrant and how they might compensate him to avoid a sudden execution.

”Everything is… perfect,” Hye said, taking a deep, slow breath. He closed his eyes, savouring the rush of power and the feeling of the new worldʼs tether connecting to his soul.

”Now, letʼs go down. I intend to establish a portal in the largest metropolitan hub on this planet. Lead your people through it. My subordinates will be waiting on the other side to facilitate the migration and provide protection.”

He laid out the logistics with the cold efficiency of a seasoned general. Lucas, sensing the change in atmosphere, steered the command ship toward the planetʼs primary capital. Hye didnʼt waste a single heartbeat. As soon as the ship touched down, he stepped out onto the scorched tarmac and began the ritual.

With a massive surge of mana, he tore open the fabric of space. A swirling vortex of blue and silver energy stabilised in front of him—the portal. However, as it settled, Hyeʼs brow furrowed.

The portal was functional, but it was modest. It was wide enough for a column of several thousand people to pass through at once, but compared to the billions of citizens inhabiting this planet, it was a mere needle-eye.

”This wonʼt do,” Hye whispered, calculating the time it would take to evacuate the entire population.

At this rate, the planetʼs core would collapse long before the last citizen reached safety. He needed speed. He needed a gateway that could swallow an entire army in a single stride. He needed the portal to expand, but he was already hitting the ceiling of his current spatial manipulation.

He turned toward Olana, who was watching the shimmering rift with a neutral expression. ”...Can you help me with that? I need this to be ten times larger, and I need it now.”

Olana stood speechless for a few moments, her eyes wide as she processed the sheer scale of the request. Finally, she shook her head slowly, a look of realisation crossing her face.

Olana stared at him, her expression a mix of bewilderment and amusement. To her, this was like watching a man with the strength of a titan struggling to open a simple door because he didnʼt realise it had a handle.

”You know, an item like this is considered incredibly common in the wider universe,” she said, sighing as she opened her holographic interface. Her fingers danced across a series of complex menus, selecting options with practised ease.

Within seconds, a notification pinged in Hyeʼs vision as millions of units of a single item were transferred into his inventory. ”Consider it a mere gift. Itʼs not worth the breath it took to ask for it.”

She truly couldnʼt believe he had approached her about something so mundane as if it were a high-tier, priceless artefact. Seeing him act so oblivious to the standard logistics of interplanar travel made her realise just how young and inexperienced he actually was regarding the grand affairs of the universe.

He might be terrifyingly strong, and he was undeniably wealthy—overflowing with the skeletal remains and bones that served as the currency of power—but his lack of worldly knowledge was a glaring hole in his armour.

It made her realise she had found a vital role to play in his rapidly expanding kingdom: she would be the navigator for a king who didnʼt yet know the map.

Hye reached into his inventory and pulled out a small, diamond-shaped object. It was translucent, humming with a faint, stabilising energy.

[Gorgalrin Diamond]

Grade: Common

Effect: Apply to an existing portal to expand its radius fivefold.

Constraint: A maximum of one hundred applications per individual gateway.

”One hundred applications isnʼt a bad limit,” Hye remarked, rolling the diamond between his thumb and forefinger. He looked over at Olana, his eyes narrowing thoughtfully. ”And since this is a ʼCommonʼ grade item, I assume higher grades provide significantly better expansion effects, right?”

”That is true,” Olana replied, ”but the price curve for higher grades is exponential. Their costs are way higher, and most consider the Common ones more cost-effective for simple migrations.”

”I donʼt care about the cost,” Hye said, dismissively waving her concern away. He was interested in results, not savings. As long as a commodity satisfied his immediate needs, he was willing to pay whatever the system demanded.

”I was thinking of another utility on top of this expansion. Is there an item that can span a portal across different geographic areas? Something that can build a network of branch portals out of a single anchor point?”

Olana blinked. ”Sure, there are Spatial Link Beads, but they require a massive amount of—”

”Just buy a ton of them for me,” Hye interrupted with a calm, confident smile. He raised a hand to stop her further explanations. ”Buy the higher grades of those diamonds, too. Get the best Link Beads available on the market. Once youʼre done, just tell me the total price in bones.”

”Okay...” Olana murmured.

She knew that in these types of high-level transactions, paying with top-tier bones would be extravagant beyond measure. Internally, she made a shrewd calculation: she would use her own personal liquid wealth to cover the market price in standard currency and keep the bones Hye gave her as a far more valuable long-term investment.

Within minutes, Hyeʼs inventory was filled with a variety of beads of different grades and shimmering hues. While their qualities varied, they were all unified by a single function: branching out an existing portal to multiple locations within the same world.
