Chapter 1445: Chapter 17: Italy Beer Hall_3

In such an environment, it is easiest for ambitious people to exploit it.

”The failure of the unification wars in the last century was the beginning of our current Italian suffering. The damn Austria-Hungary and the government’s blockheads turned our dream of Italian unification into a laughingstock for all of Europe.”

”And during the world wars, the government’s timidity caused us to miss the great opportunity to recover East Lombardy and Venice, politicians should shoot themselves for their cowardice and weakness, for they have doomed the future of all of Italy.”

”Our great Italy should have been a powerful nation, with over forty million people and numerous excellent coastlines, becoming a Great Power in the Mediterranean.”

”You must know, in the last century, the Italian Navy once surpassed Austria-Hungary, but now it can only shrink within the Ligurian Sea and the Tyrrhenian Sea. This is a shame for Italians...”

Ordinarily, the middle-aged man’s words would struggle to resonate with everyone, but now is clearly a special time, with European flu and economic depression affecting everyone’s daily life painfully.

Therefore, in the Turin tavern, all sorts of people would cheer anyone who cursed the authorities.

And the middle-aged man, looking at the scene before him, was greatly satisfied in his heart; doesn’t this mean his theories are striking a chord?

As a former member of the Italian Labor Party, he was well-versed at the craft of mobilizing the grassroots. Of course, he had learned the Labor Party’s methods of stirring up emotions, but he was not satisfied with the various strictures or political ideologies of the Labor Party, so he withdrew from the organization.

For example, the Italian Labor Party did not support his advocacy for expanding Italian territory.

This middle-aged man’s name is Benito, born into a family of the Italian Labor Party. His father was an active member of the Italian Labor Party, which was why Benito joined the Italian Labor Party in his early years.

And it was precisely because of this experience that he grasped the organizational and propaganda methods of the Labor Party. In 1919, he started his own faction and founded his own political group, the Italian Combat Group.

”Ladies and gentlemen, is anyone willing to join us, to jointly progress and strive for Italy’s great unification cause?” Benito asked once he saw the time was ripe.

Although Benito criticized the Kingdom of Italy, he cleverly positioned his political slogans around unification, to make Italy a Great Power in the world. Thus, though Benito is listed in the current Italian government, the authorities consider him a harmless political activist.

After all, there are plenty of Italians who support unification, at least within the Kingdom of Italy, since even after decades, the Kingdom of Italy remains the most promising nation for unifying the Italian peninsula. ℴ

The other two Italian peninsula nations — the Pope Country lacks ambition, and European society clearly doesn’t permit them to have ambition, and Naples is a puppet supported by Austria-Hungary. Although during WWI it gained autonomy, freeing itself from Austria-Hungary’s manipulation, it is not well-received.

And Benito’s Italian Combat Group is actually a cross-national organization; its members are spread across the Kingdom of Italy, Pope Country, and the Kingdom of Naples, and it also infiltrates Austria-Hungary-controlled East Lombardy.

”Mr. Benito, I want to join you and make a mark!”

”Count me in; I’ve long been sick of the gang of vermin in the kingdom government.”

One after another, Benito gained another batch of followers in the tavern.

Meanwhile, the Italian Labor Party was suffering severe blows from various Italian nations, letting Benito’s team seize a great opportunity and start to rapidly spread across the Italian peninsula. A huge political force, with over ten thousand members, quietly rose on the Italian peninsula, and its emergence will have unpredictable effects on Europe’s future.
