Chapter 1402: Chapter 1: Director Bolna_3

This also led to East Africa having no need to completely eradicate the San people. East Africa’s approach to them is to continue maintaining their current status.

After all, their living environment, if not subjected to external interference, may remain unchanged for tens of thousands of years in terms of population size and level of civilization. In fact, the San people have likely experienced little change for tens of thousands of years since separating from other humans.

Otherwise, they wouldn’t have been defeated so thoroughly by the Bantu people coming from West Africa. It’s worth noting that in the eyes of colonizers in East Africa, the Bantu people are already considered quite primitive.

Lischer and Bolna naturally wouldn’t care about the fate of a possibly weak ethnic group in the Southwest Region.

Lischer expressed admiration for Director Bolna’s experiences, saying, ”The director has a good father!”

Director Bolna said openly, ”That’s natural. After all, my father fought for the Empire for over a decade and achieved great accomplishments.”

Lischer said, ”Not only that, even without your father’s resources, I think you could have reached this point, Director. After all, thirty years ago, a high school student in East Africa was considered a highly educated intellectual, and not bad internationally.”

Today, although the value of education in East Africa has depreciated to some extent, this is a situation that has occurred in the last thirty years or so. In the era when Bolna attended school, elementary education in East Africa wasn’t even fully universal yet, and secondary education was just beginning to be promoted on a large scale.

Thus, thirty years ago, Bolna’s educational credentials were still very valuable. Of course, now after East Africa has experienced educational depreciation, so-called high school graduates are hardly worth anything.

In East Africa, it’s rare for people of age not to have attended high school. The ones truly unaffected are university students. Although many universities have been built in East Africa in recent years, they barely meet the needs of East African society. Even so, in a cross-sectional comparison, East Africa is already considered a country where university graduates are quite ”overabundant.”

Of course, people in the early 20th century had not seen the true extent of the proliferation of higher education worldwide in the 21st century. Now, East African university graduates can find decent jobs, while employment prospects for many university graduates in the 21st century are more challenging.

Ernst, although aware of the philosophy that the more talent the better, does not plan to imitate the 21st century’s higher education enrollment model.

After all, this entails cost issues. Higher education is an expensive endeavor, especially with genuinely capable and diligent institutions.

Beyond high costs for the government, the spread of higher education also entails considerable costs for ordinary families, including not only basic fees like tuition but also the cost of time.

Higher education generally involves about four years of study, and many families not only have to bear the costs of these four years but also sacrifice the time cost, which is immensely valuable for an ordinary person.

After all, the most crucial stage for life and society is the youth stage, and the higher education phase falls right within this golden period of life.

And if, due to lowering the thresholds for higher education, an excess batch of graduates is nurtured without corresponding job placements, causing them to spill over to farms, construction sites, or factories doing the most fundamental jobs, it’s entirely pointless.

After all, this type of work lacks significant value, and East African high school graduates can equally handle it. Moreover, because they are healthier and younger, they might perform even better.

Therefore, East Africa’s higher education has always been maintained within a controllable range, focusing on quality over quantity. This can be seen from Director Bolna’s experiences. Even with a relatively influential father, he could not pull strings to enter university.

However, even so, East Africa’s higher education is considered significantly lowered compared to other countries at the same time; otherwise, it couldn’t have become the country with the largest number of university students worldwide.
