African Entrepreneurship Record

Chapter 1424: Chapter 10: Medical Industry (3)

A large number of orders flooded into East Africa, allowing mask manufacturers there to make a hefty profit. In addition, some alcohol and pharmaceutical producers also received substantial overseas orders.

Among them, East Africa’s antipyretic medications come in many varieties. Apart from some patented medicines authorized for production, East Africa also possesses some medicinal products derived from traditional Chinese medicine and other medical fields.

Regardless of their specific effectiveness, this undoubtedly greatly increased the variety of drugs available in East Africa.

The sources of East Africa’s patented medicines are also diverse—some are drugs developed domestically in East Africa, others are authorized for production from other countries, and finally, some are drug patents obtained from the Allies.

During World War involvement, as a Neutral Country, East Africa naturally became a manufacturing hub for some countries’ pharmaceuticals, prompting some foreign pharmaceutical companies to invest in the production of relevant drugs in East Africa.

Towards the end of the war, East Africa acquired many valuable assets from the Allies, all of which spurred the rapid development of East Africa’s pharmaceutical industry.

Post-war, due to the destruction caused by the war, some local pharmaceutical companies in Europe had not yet regained their strength, temporarily benefiting East Africa in their market presence.

Of course, this was also related to East Africa’s natural environment. As a tropical nation, East Africa naturally placed great importance on the pharmaceutical industry, as the tropics are a hotbed for various diseases.

Thus, since the last century, the East African Government has tried every possible means to develop its pharmaceutical industry, even engaging in some actions that could not be publicly disclosed.

The most typical of these was conducting related experiments using Black people. It can be said that Black people made a great contribution to the development of East Africa’s pharmaceutical industry. With their help, East African pharmaceutical companies and research institutions were able to boldly make mistakes and accumulate experience.

This also led to a major breakthrough in East African pharmaceutical research after the 1990s, which naturally had its reasons for occurring after the 1990s.

After all, pharmaceutical research requires professional talent and knowledge accumulation, and the 1990s coincided with the large-scale return on investment of East Africa in compulsory and higher education.

Meanwhile, East Africa had actively absorbed medical achievements from all over the world in the preceding decades and was beginning to achieve initial success. With a solid foundation in personnel and knowledge, the East African Government could systematically conduct research in the medical field.

The 1990s also marked a period when East Africa’s slavery system was relatively developed, with a large number of Black laborers within East Africa still being used as material for medical researchers.

Therefore, with the convergence of policy support, talent cultivation, special funding, relevant equipment, basic theoretical knowledge, experimental material, and other factors, it was difficult for East Africa’s pharmaceutical industry not to explode into prominence.

After more than twenty years of accumulation and development, directly leading up to World War I, East Africa had already become one of the world’s most advanced countries in medical research and the pharmaceutical industry.

Consequently, East Africa’s pharmaceutical industry was able to make a fortune during World War I, establishing East Africa’s medical reputation worldwide.

This was also the main reason that, in the latter stages of the war, the United States was unable to compete with East Africa in the European medical products market. East African medical products not only had large production capacity but were also more reliable in quality.

By accumulating a good reputation at the onset of the war, at least various national armies and soldiers were more willing to trust East African products.

At the start of the 20th century, gaining recognition from Europe also meant that East African medical products had gained recognition worldwide.

In the later stages of the war, having further absorbed some technological advances from Germany and other countries in the medical field, East Africa’s pharmaceutical industry had already essentially become the world’s leader, both in terms of industry scale and product quality.
