High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 1592: Chapter 336: A Big Misunderstanding

”Excuse me, is this the First University?”

The beauty emerging from the lake wiped her face, shook the water droplets from her hair, and gave a radiant smile to the young male and female wizards standing on the shore. Her blood-red eyes sparkled in the sunlight, like two translucent rubies, mesmerizing anyone who gazed upon her.

The witch on the shore was still in a daze.

It was the warlock who instinctively nodded when he heard the beauty’s question.

Although his eyes showed traces of confusion—he couldn’t explain why he found the beauty familiar. But for the moment, he couldn’t tear himself away from her stunning gaze and wanted to take a closer look.

The beauty glanced at the crimson robes the two students were wearing and seemed more certain: ”Jiuyou Academy?”

The warlock slowly nodded again, his mind lingering on some vague thought, convinced he was overlooking something. Meanwhile, his companion remained spellbound, seemingly still unable to recover from the shock brought on by the massive green vine.

The beauty in the lake showed a slightly disappointed expression, as if she wanted to say something more but suddenly frowned and looked down.

The warlock followed the beauty’s gaze downward, and only then did he notice a second head emerging from the water’s surface.

This figure, too, sported a pair of red eyes, was clad in a Jiuyou Academy robe, and was drenched from head to toe. Strangely enough, his face appeared even more familiar to the warlock than the beauty’s.

The second figure emerging from the lake held a charm gun in his hand, a classic Remington double-barrel design, its barrels etched in vibrant yellow windmill-like runes. A palpable aura of ’danger’ radiated from him, making the warlock’s wizard instincts scream and causing a stabbing pain in his eyes.

This sharp sensation forced the warlock to close his eyes reflexively, bringing a fleeting clarity to his mind.

In that moment of clarity, he recalled the two pairs of red eyes he had just seen, and an overwhelming terror surged within him. When he reopened his eyes, his hand was already resting on the law book at his waist, and a pale green glow of the Heart Clarity Spell enveloped both himself and his female companion.

”Hurry up, don’t block the way!”

The second figure emerging from the lake jabbed the beautiful female demon’s waist with the gun barrel, his tone menacing. Then, he turned his head, scanning his surroundings, his face lighting up in surprise, ”Huh? I’m back!”

Immediately, his gaze landed on the pair of young wizards standing on the shore.

”Excuse me,” the figure waved the Remington in his hand and asked urgently, ”What time is it? ... I mean, what day is it? Finals haven’t ended yet, right?”

His questions were answered by a warlock on shore, who mustered the courage to throw a handful of yellow talisman paper at him, accompanied by the witch’s piercing scream:

”A demon! Aaah!!”

...

...

When the witch on shore began screaming, Zheng Qing hadn’t yet registered what was happening.

He was too exhausted.

From infiltrating the museum, braving the Magic Mirror, and finally entering Dreamland, he had undergone a grindingly long journey that left him utterly drained.

Granted, he had managed to sleep once or twice during the trip, but his dreams were far from restful and only magnified his fatigue.

Especially that final leg of the journey.

At Engla’s old mansion, he faced off against a differentiated Black Wizard, then climbed Kela Mountain to endure the echoes left by native divine spirits. After reaching the peak, he planted the green vine, struggling onward in fierce winds and collapsing space cracks before finally returning to the academy.

The moment before, Zheng Qing’s consciousness was consumed by the memory of their party entering dense, stifling clouds, so thick with moisture that he could barely breathe.

The next moment, as he gasped upon escaping the cloud layer, he realized with shock that they had returned to the First University.

The familiar scenery of Lin Zhong Lake and the soothing atmosphere surrounding it immediately made the young wizard relax inwardly. That was likely why, when the warlock on shore suddenly flung talisman paper at him, Zheng Qing froze in place, unable to react.

In stark contrast, Nikita, who had been as nervous as a captured prisoner the entire time, had her guard up to the maximum when they arrived back at the university. She feared—for good reason—that the young cost student could accidentally pull the trigger and send her to wander along the banks of the Forgetting River.

As she climbed out of the water via the green vine and realized they were back at the First University, her vigilance transformed into sheer defensiveness. She hadn’t forgotten her identity, nor did she underestimate the First University’s response to a wanted supernatural entity.

So when those talisman papers suddenly shot toward them, the female demon narrowed her eyes, summoning her magical aura. Her long hair billowed around her, untouched by any wind, and she activated her demon-born talent to its fullest extent.

Mid-flight, the talisman papers combusted into orange-yellow bursts of flame under the assault of her magic aura.

The warlock on the shore trembled and shoved the witch behind him, his eyes locked onto the massive green vine in the lake and the ’two’ demons emerging from its grip—mistakenly assuming that Zheng Qing, too, was one of them due to his red eyes.

”Run!” The warlock croaked, his voice hoarse, shouting back at the witch behind him, ”Go get help! I’ll hold them off! Go!”

The witch clung to his arm, sobbing and refusing to budge.

That was when Zheng Qing realized there might’ve been a misunderstanding. Rolling his eyes, he cleared his throat, intending to explain himself: his red eyes should just be attributed to bloodshot irritation, not a demon-like nature. If he were truly a demon, he wouldn’t waste time engaging in sorrowful theatrics with his peers.

But he overlooked one glaring detail—he was indeed standing next to an actual demon.

And a demon whose name appeared on arrest warrants, who carried a bounty as a Witch Demon.

Just as the talisman papers were shattered by Nikita’s aura and transformed into fiery bursts, the runes hidden throughout various corners of the First University began to glow—to life—

From the Mount Tai Stone monument in front of the laboratory building, to the pavilion pillars in the Lakefront Corridor, from the plaque in Book Mountain Library’s first-floor hall, to the ridge beasts perched atop the academy walls, from the stone lions flanking the academy’s gates to Grandpa Niwu, the bronze beast guarding the dormitories.

Surging magic power stripped away fractured stone shells, mottled copper rust, and damp moss. One by one, golden runes radiated dazzling brilliance, creating magical nodes across the campus.

Golden threads interwove these runic nodes, magic pulsing furiously between them, causing the entire academy to groan under the heavy weight of these forces.

Buzz buzz!

A luminous golden net, reverberating with waves of magical power, suddenly materialized in midair, encompassing the entirety of Jiuyou Academy. Its immense magical aura immediately locked onto the green vine—and Nikita perched atop it.

The female demon’s face turned ghostly pale, powerless, and she collapsed onto the ground.

In a fleeting moment, the golden net solidified and began contracting toward the academy’s central courtyard.

Whoosh whoosh!!

Under the oppressive force, the windmill-shaped runes on Zheng Qing’s charm gun flared, spinning furiously in resistance against the net’s crushing pressure.

Buzz!!!

The golden net’s crisscrossing threads trembled ever more violently.

And then Zheng Qing felt a chill of horror—he realized that he, too, had become targeted by the immense aura in midair.
