High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 1551: Chapter 295: The Challenges of Physically Erasing Memories

Several voices, similar yet profoundly distinct, emerged from the newly split mouths on the tentacle tips, resonating simultaneously in the ears of the young wizards, sounding murky and chaotic. Meanwhile, one pitch-black eyeball after another aimlessly rolled, adding a further layer of eeriness to the cacophony.

Zheng Qing did not believe a single word spoken by that tentacle.

Just as the old-school wizards often said, ”If you can’t see where its brain is, never trust that it can think, nor believe any word it says.”

Zheng Qing doubted whether a brain even existed on that tentacle.

Nor had he ever seen where the old mansion master’s brain was located behind the door.

”Patients always think they’re not sick, so how you feel about your own stability doesn’t prove anything.” The young fee-student subtly yet firmly rejected the tentacle’s intention to continue eavesdropping on the Hunting team’s meeting, pointing his charm gun at it and gesturing for it to retreat behind the door. ”Additionally... if you don’t mind, we’d prefer a bit of privacy.”

”I just came to check if the soup was ready.” The tentacle politely withdrew its newly sprouted eyes and mouths, unhurriedly retreating back behind the door.

Passing by the cauldron, the tentacle dipped back into the mushroom soup for a stir.

Gurgling and bubbling sounds briefly subsided before resuming quietly. The air was filled with an enticing aroma, a mix of mushrooms and meat.

Zheng Qing withdrew his gaze with a stony expression, trying hard to shut out the rustling noises about to emanate from behind the door. He was intensely curious about why the old mansion master had such an obsession with mushroom soup.

He was also very curious whether the boiled tentacle, once back behind the door, would be chewed up and eaten by the mansion master.

After all, it looked delicious and seemed about ready to be served.

The warlock shook his head vigorously, trying to shake off the horrifying thoughts in his mind. He felt he should drink a vial of Lu Er De Holy Water to cleanse those ill-omened thoughts from his mind.

”...Although I disagree with what it said, I have to admit it made a valid point,” Xiao Xiao cleared his throat and resumed the small circle’s meeting. ”Using a Forgetfulness Spell is too risky; we can’t afford it.”

”Even if we could afford it, who among us has the ability to erase a Big Wizard’s specific memory?” Zheng Qing agreed with the Doctor’s perspective, abandoning the thought altogether. ”The odds of turning him into a babbling idiot are far higher.”

”Physical Memory Erasure Technique?” Xiao Xiao rubbed his chin thoughtfully and nodded. ”It can be considered as an option... but its unpredictability is its fatal flaw—the uncertainty over which parts of the memory would be erased and the repercussions during the operation are glaring risks.”

This suggestion unexpectedly sparked heated discussion within the small circle.

”Fat Man makes his fist a bit bigger, grabs a rock from the mountain, and smashes it on him hard. Done.”

”...I doubt his head would even register dizziness as an option.”

”Don’t flinch... never act like a coward in front of the enemy. That’s the quickest way to lose all hope of victory. We are Absolution Hunters! We are students of the First University! We are invincible!”

”Sounds motivating.” Xin Fat Man commented absentmindedly, ”But we still need a foolproof plan... After all, we are First University students, not brain-dead Minotaurs.”

Zhang Ji Xin raised a finger, waving it before Fat Man’s nose. ”In front of Black Wizards, don’t pretend to be smart. Be dumb. Direct action is the smartest approach.”

Fat Man, unmoved, still tried to think something through. ”Then how about discussing with him to knock him out? It’s for his own good anyway.”

”Good idea,” the red-faced male wizard glanced at the black cauldron nearby. ”If you’re willing to let him toss you into the cauldron to soak with the mushrooms in a hot bath... If you’re lucky, you can help us fish out that gold bean before you’re fully cooked.”

”According to standard memory theories, the deeper the memory, the harder it is to erase.” Jiang Yu chimed in, though she was not optimistic about this reckless suggestion. ”Even if he doesn’t resist... after we knock him out and remove his memories, I fear those originating from the starry sky may not be erased. Instead, losing conscious control could allow them to fully manifest into this world.”

”Transforming into true followers of the starry sky.” Xiao Xiao nodded. ”That’s indeed a very plausible outcome.”

Zheng Qing, listening to these increasingly bizarre discussions, finally couldn’t help but interject, cutting off his teammates’ conversations.

”Are you all seriously considering this?” The young fee-student widened his eyes, looking first at the Doctor and then at the others. ”I was just joking!”

”But we’re not.” Zhang Ji Xin looked at the warlock in surprise, seemingly curious as to why he would joke about such a matter. ”We’re very serious.”

”Even with a one-in-ten-thousand chance, this suggestion is no joke.” Xiao Xiao adjusted his glasses with a solemn expression, adding, ”...We need to gather as many possibilities as possible.”

He said this as the Absolution Hunting Team’s diviner wrote the second proposal, Physical Memory Erasure Technique, detailing its content on the parchment before sketching a pentagram next to the plan.

Zheng Qing caught sight of the first proposal, ’Forgetfulness Spell,’ with two pentagrams drawn beside it.

It seemed those pentagrams symbolized the difficulty level of executing the plan.

Then the goose feather pen wrote the words ’Plan Three.’

”Are there any other suggestions?” Xiao Xiao surveyed them, particularly looking at Nikita. ”Anyone, any suggestion is welcome... We are a united team now. Bound together by shared fate.”

The female demon lowered her gaze, hiding the scarlet glow in her eyes, pretending not to notice the glance from the short male wizard.

She was eager for these young wizards to remain lost and unable to return home.

The courtyard fell into a brief silence—this time, there was no heavy breathing from the young wizards, no popping sounds of ampoule bottle caps being pulled, nor any rustling noises from the mansion master sucking on his tentacle behind the door.

All that could be heard was the bubbling of mushroom soup in the cauldron, the delicate sound of bubbles bursting against the ceramic wall.

Xin Fat Man let out a low ”Hmm.”

”Oh? How could I forget this?” He fiddled with his watch and pulled out a small vial of clear liquid. ”Truth Serum, capable of making a wizard lose consciousness and enter a unique tranquil state... And then there’s this.”

As he said this, he slid his fingers over the menu projection from his watch, quickly conjuring another small bottle, also containing clear liquid.

”Serene Whiskey—a neutralizing agent to dissolve any conflicts—La Plata Water.” He raised the small bottle in his hand, as if toasting to the air. ”Now all I need is a bit of Japanese dogwood flower.”
