High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 1570: Chapter 314: A Long Night (7)

Compared to the ordinary wizard reception area, the VIP reception for big wizards is far more humane.

There are no narrow corridors flanked by towering silver-gray cabinets, nor are there heavy glass windows separating the space. The reception area for big wizards feels more like a cozy study room.

Except this study room is a bit oversized.

Korma estimated that the distance between the floor and the ceiling of this room was at least ten meters. Even with her height, she felt the room was somewhat overwhelmingly spacious.

Too spacious meant it was not entirely vacant.

Directly facing the entrance was a massive desk, surrounded by a few casual, soft sofas. In front of the sofas was a marble-topped coffee table adorned with fresh fruits and various snacks. Surrounding the sofas were lush potted plants, and Korma even noticed an elf clad in transparent silk hiding among the leaves, sneaking greetings at her.

The room was lined with towering bookshelves stretching up to the ceiling, densely packed with books of all kinds—a sight that made the Great Sage of the Northern District deeply envious. Despite the vastness of the Northern District and its countless wizards, it could never collect such an extensive library.

Yes, to Korma, this reception area could undoubtedly be called a library. She had no doubt that just the books on these shelves alone were enough for a Northern District wizard to study for a lifetime.

”Thank heavens! Finally, we have a normal visitor.”

From mid-air, a surprisingly familiar voice was heard. Following the sound, Korma spotted the chubby witch who had escorted her to this room panting as she climbed down a ladder slowly.

It appeared that she had been organizing books on the shelves.

Korma was a bit confused.

She turned back to look at the entrance. The deep-red door was already tightly shut, but she distinctly remembered that the chubby witch who had escorted her to the reception area never even entered the door, leaving in a hurried and reserved manner at the doorway.

”I’m not her,” the chubby witch who had just climbed down from the ladder approached the visitor and explained considerately, ”We just happen to look alike.”

Indeed, they were not the same person—Korma was sure of that. The difference in their demeanors alone was enough to judge. The anxious demeanor of the chubby witch from the ordinary wizard reception area when dealing with big wizards was absolutely not faked, whereas the natural ease of the chubby witch in this study when facing Korma was undeniably striking.

But if they were merely ”somewhat similar in appearance,” that, too, was hard to believe. For Korma’s keen eyes as a big wizard couldn’t discern any difference between their looks.

The frequency of their cheeks jittering as they spoke was almost identical.

And they were equally talkative.

”Is there anything I can help you with, madam?” The chubby witch smiled warmly at the visitor. ”The Big Wizard Reception Area of the Danghag Foreign Affairs Bureau is at your service.”

Korma abandoned the thought of distinguishing between the two chubby witches.

”The First University is dealing with pollution from the Starry Sky. The school staff is overwhelmed at the moment, so I wish to request assistance from the Danghag Enforcement Corps,” the Great Sage of the Northern District briefly explained her purpose and emphasized, ”This matter is urgent. Before I arrived, a small patrol team of Northern District wizards had already disappeared in the Silent Forest.”

”Legal matters are always urgent.” The chubby witch patted Korma’s arm—though it seemed she intended to pat Korma’s shoulder, her short stature only allowed her to reach Korma’s arm—and comforted her, ”Don’t worry, I’ll process the relevant documents as quickly as possible.”

With that, she swept past the witch like a whirlwind, heading straight to the massive desk. Meanwhile, a group of sprites carrying platters of fruit and snacks, along with some teacups and teapots, flew towards the visitor.

The fruits on the plates, clean and glistening, were irresistibly tempting.

Korma picked up a deep-red cherry and a piece of green bean pastry, rejecting the offered cup of hot tea. The sprites didn’t display the slightest hint of disappointment, cheerfully fluttering their wings as they circled the visitor, still holding their assortment of delicacies.

After she finished the cherry and the pastry, the chubby witch had already returned to her side, holding a long scroll of parchment.

”Do you know what this is?”

The question made Korma think the chubby witch lacked a bit of service awareness as a receptionist, but she didn’t mind and simply followed up with a guess, ”It looks like a contract?”

”An application form!”

The chubby witch stuffed a feather pen saturated with ink into the newly appointed big wizard’s hand, cheerfully patted her shoulder, and said, ”The starting point for procedural justice, the most crucial thing in this world besides the Wizard’s Code and the Supreme Joint Court. Since you intend to request the assistance of the law enforcement corps for that arrogant school that doesn’t value the Wizard Covenant, I must ensure everything adheres to the rules... Rules, you understand?”

”Sounds worse than I imagined.” Korma had heard murmurs within the Alliance about the independence of the First University, but she always assumed those were merely private squabbles among influential figures. She hadn’t anticipated it being discussed so casually by a receptionist in Danghag.

Perhaps this was one of the reasons the First University was now short-staffed.

”After all, Danghag is incredibly busy,” the chubby witch hadn’t noticed her guest’s subtle expression and continued ranting, ”From Flober Grubs gnawing on neighbors’ furniture to wild vampires wreaking havoc in Liburg... Of course, of course, any violation of the Wizard’s Code, Danghag’s doors are open to handle it... But one has to admit, it’s a lose-lose outcome.”

”Is Liburg the castle of some clan?” As a newly appointed big wizard, Korma hadn’t yet developed the reserved nature of many of her counterparts and retained sufficient curiosity and humility about the world and the unknown.

”No, it’s an ordinary mortal world small town,” the chubby witch replied while swiftly stamping the application form, still smiling warmly, ”On the opposite bank of the North American New York City Hudson River, belonging to New Jersey... It used to be a filming base. Those wild vampires thought they could use actors’ makeup as an excuse to hide in the town, but they forgot that vampires do need to drink blood...”

”If I’m not mistaken, New York belongs to the Karen Family’s territory?”

”Including New Jersey and large chunks of land on both banks of the Hudson River... So they’re always highly attentive to what happens near their doorstep. Those wild vampires were captured by the Karen Family.” The chubby witch’s face clearly showed dissatisfaction. ”If you ask me, the Alliance is too lenient towards those families lurking in the shadows.”
