High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 290: Chapter 214: It Came So Suddenly_1

There is no such thing as absolute in this world.

For instance, the relationship between fortune and misfortune.

The ancients once used the phrase ’Good luck lies in misfortune, and misfortune hides beneath good luck’ to succinctly summarize the relationship - who can determine its extremity? There’s no absolute. That which is regular turns extraordinary, and that which is benign, eerie. The confusion of mankind persists as long as the days are.

Another example is the difference between the brave and the cowardly.

People who dare to confront dark and desolate life and face a stream of blood are called the fearless. Also, those who do not dare to confront such life yet still manage to force themselves to face that blood, are also known as the fearless.

This world never refrains from playing terribly malicious pranks on you.

For instance, when you lift your head to observe the nocturnal sky, to witness whether Purple Wisteria is fading or not, a sparrow dozing on the tree branch lets out a loose bladder. A blob of watery waste descends, landing precisely on your face.

Certain things always happen when you least anticipate them.

Just like now.

Half of the astronomy class time had already passed, and coincidentally, Zheng Qing had just completed a magic text. Right at his moment of triumph, he lifted his head to find Elena appearing at the classroom door.

No defense, no hesitation.

Just like that, you appeared in my world.

Truly a bolt from the blue!

It’s enough to make one want to throw their pen down, isn’t it?

Zheng Qing, clenching the aged purple brush in his hand, his face alternated between pale and blushing, stood frozen in place for a while.

”Take it easy,” Xiao Xiao patted him on the shoulder comfortingly, whispering: ”If you say that this is fate, then show no fear and face it!”

More and more people had noticed the unexpected visitor at the classroom door.

The originally quiet atmosphere in the classroom began to stir, everyone’s gaze involuntarily swung between the doorway and the last row of the classroom.

All being classmates, it hadn’t been many hours since Zheng Qing had deducted a point from the Gypsy witches’ score in the morning, and many people still remembered vividly.

”Oh, the poor kid.” Xin Fat Man turned his head to look at Zheng Qing, with a mischievous smile on his face: ”If you don’t mind, I can use my tall stature to shield you...”

Elena, clutching the lecture notes for Astronomy, long waves of red hair lightly bound to her shoulder, stood quietly at the door, without making a sound.

It wasn’t until Professor Emma walked over to her, that the young witch courteously bowed.

”Good day, Professor!” She greeted Professor Emma obediently.

”Have you finished with your affairs?” The professor looked at her kindly, nodding: ”There’s still half a class left, look over the second Chapter of the handout, try and see if you can complete the magic text... I’ll arrange for Jiang Yu to give you another set of the exam papers from these past few days, just hand them in before Friday.”

Elena briefly stared blankly, then nodded earnestly with a sweet smile.

”Professor!” Xiao Xiao suddenly shouted in a loud voice: ”Zheng Qing’s magic text has turned into a fireball after it was finished!”

In an instant, everyone’s gaze converged on the row where a few male students sat at the back of the classroom.

Elena was no exception.

The heart Zheng Qing had been girding up seemed as if it was horribly squeezed and twisted by an invisible hand, and he suddenly felt dizzy.

For the first time, he understood what it felt like to see stars before his eyes.

Small, golden dots, like a string of bubbles, quickly drifting up from the corner of his eye.

They were very beautiful but also very annoying.

He blinked hard, focusing his gaze on the slowly rotating fireball in the air, trying to convince himself that everything was an illusion.

But those distant beautiful eyes, as if imbued with some magic, clearly told him that she was watching him.

”I really want to kill you,” he growled through gritted teeth.

Xiao Xiao adjusted his glasses and quietly shifted towards the edge of the desk, as if he hadn’t heard Zheng Qing’s threat.

”Very good, excellent!”

Professor Emma somehow used magic to instantly appear before the male students at the back row, her face beaming with a kind smile. With a voice that sent shivers down everyone’s spine, she praised:

”An excellent... successful piece!”

Her palm hovered over the fireball, her stubby fingers trembling quickly in the air, as if playing invisible strings of a harp.

The flames gradually subsided, revealing a small ball made up of ash.

Numerous tiny red symbols flowed over the cracked surface of the ball, like chains locked in some bizarre sequence.

Professor Emma held this gray ball high up in her hand, ensuring everyone could see it.

”Zheng Qing has done very well!” She didn’t withhold her praise, her mouth curling into a wide smile, her slightly protruding eyes appearing more prominent. ”An exceptional piece ... I have not seen such a scene in a long time.”

”A beginner accomplishing a basic magical text all at once without any guidance ... extraordinary ... The last young man whom I remember reaching this level has gone far in the new world, he is said to be close to becoming a real grand wizard.”

”I believe you are on a full scholarship this year?”

A round of agreement echoed through the classroom.

At this moment, many people would not hesitate to show their goodwill- it seemed like everyone had momentarily forgotten about the gypsy witch at the classroom door.

”Very good ... You have earned yourself a credit.”

”Then, would you like to share your experience of writing the magic text with classmates?”

Professor Emma’s encouraging gaze fell on the young scholarship student.

”Actually, it’s like drawing a talisman,” Zheng Qing mustered his energy and managed a weak smile. ”Since I’ve drawn many talismans, I was able to smoothly complete the finer details of the magic text.”

”Not enough,” the professor held up a finger and swayed it. ”If you only copy the form of the magic text, you are far from being able to reach the true level of a ’magic text’ ... Think carefully, when you finished writing, what came into your mind? What fluctuation did your emotions undergo?”

At the end of writing?

What fluctuation did your emotions undergo?

Zheng Qing let out a dry laugh, his eyes warily glancing toward the classroom door.

The Gypsy witch stood at a vacant place in the first row, not yet seated.

”I was ... I was startled ... No, I was a bit nervous ... and somewhat rushed ... and somewhat heated?” He flailed his arms about, stammeringly adding, ” ... Of course, my mind was certainly very focused... highly focused.”

Soft laughter murmured nearby.

Zhang Ji Xin buried his face under his arm, his broad shoulders slightly shaking.

”Don’t be downcast; everyone has their unique talent; even though your talent does not shine in magic text, it doesn’t mean you don’t excel in any other areas.” Professor Emma comforted, patting Zhang Ji Xin’s back.

Apparently, she misinterpreted this male student crying out of shame for his inferior performance.

Zhang Ji Xin’s body turned rigid for a moment, then he buried his head deeper under his arm.

”As Zheng Qing described, when you are completing a magic text, you not only need to achieve the intricate construction, but you also need to insert your own emotions into the strokes and your understanding of the character.”

”For example, this Fire Magic Text.”

”Zheng Qing cleverly infused ’Heart Fire’ into it... This was the major reason he was successful in completing the magic text.”

”I look forward to seeing every one of you truly invoke your emotions and your heart while writing magic texts... Only magic texts written with heart can be considered as real magic texts!”

”Now, let’s give a round of applause to Zheng Qing.”

”Let’s applaud him for his outstanding performance!”

Suddenly, the classroom resonated with thunderous clapping.

”Excellent, very good! Zheng Qing, this is your reward! ... what’s wrong?” Noticing that Zheng Qing’s face had turned somewhat pale, she hastily asked, her voice suddenly dropping several notches.

”It’s alright, just a little palpitation.” Zheng Qing managed a weak smile and forcefully pressed against his frantically pounding heart, experiencing a throbbing sensation in his temples.

The intense emotional upheaval a few minutes ago seemed to have snapped something within his mind.

Some deeply ingrained feelings were beginning to resurface.

”Perhaps it’s because you’re writing the magic text for the first time and your spirit was momentarily overexerted,” Professor Emma speculated upon looking at his face. ”Writing magic text consumes a lot of spirit. Many often have to rest after completing their first magic text because of excessive energy consumption. But since you only wrote one character, your case should not be that severe...”

Zheng Qing nodded along, his head feeling progressively heavier.

He leaned on the desk, an ominous thought surfacing within his mind.

”A headache...”

Just after uttering those words, his vision darkened, and he slumped in front of the professor.
