High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 284: Chapter 208 There are always people who want to harm me_1

Professor Yi’s imposing stature lasted for only a short while in Zheng Qing’s heart.

From the end of class onwards, he was incessantly mumbling about the rigid, inflexible, and headstrong ’little old man’ being a nightmare.

Even while having lunch amidst the canteen’s tables, he was still constantly complaining.

”Gnarled and hunchbacked, he looks just like a large monkey... His speech is disoriented and self-absorbed... When I saw him at the patrol scene last time, why didn’t I notice how awful he was?”

”Not only is he a nightmare, but his divination class is also a nightmare!” The young government-sponsored student stirred his chickpea soup with his spoon, crushing the faintly yellow beans into a mash with the back of his spoon, as if that could soothe the anger in his heart.

Xin Fat Man, while slicing the chestnut cake on his plate, was nodding empathetically.

”It’s too dreadful,” he mumbled, with an unintelligible voice; ”If this weren’t the number one university, I’d have no confidence in learning divination... It’s too hard, just too hard.”

”Is that your main concern?” Zheng Qing halted his spoon, glaring at him indignantly.

”The deduction really is a bit excessive,” Duan Xiao Jian tried to comfort him; ”But fortunately, it’s only one point... I remember you got more than one point in Talisman class, you can totally make up for it.”

”Does that even matter!” The young government-sponsored student painfully scooped out a big spoonful of pale green ice cream and shoved it into his mouth.

The chilling sensation hit his senses instantly and he felt the piercing cold surge through his nostrils, vessels, and directly up into his head, as if it had burst open Zheng Qing’s tear gland, allowing resentment to pour out of his troubled heart.

”Why did you start crying all of a sudden!” Zhang Ji Xin exclaimed in surprise, drawing the attention of half the canteen.

”It’s the mustard taste!” Zheng Qing, his eyes blurry, inhaled deeply, and loudly defended himself.

Many people revealed knowing grins before turning away.

”So, your main point is...” Xin Fat Man stared dazedly at his dorm mate, his eyes full of confusion.

”If Elena finds out that I am the reason she lost points, she will kill me!” Zheng Qing held his head, crying to the sky, ”God, who will save me!”

”If you don’t behave instantly, we’ll abandon you here,” Zhang Ji Xin threatened in a low voice; ”Two Atlas students in yellow robes have been paying keen interest in what you were shouting just now... They’ve been looking this way.”

Zheng Qing immediately jolted and raised his head.

Indeed, over at one of the booths not far away, two senior students of Atlas waved friendly to Zheng Qing.

The young government-sponsored student was instantly dumbfounded.

”Why do students from other academies always come and loiter around ours?” he hung his head, turned back dejectedly, and muttered, ”It happens while on patrol, during class, even during meals... There isn’t a moment of peace.”

”Your mindset is quite dangerous,” Zhang Ji Xin suddenly straightened his face, his tone turning serious; ”The inception of the University is to unify all the wizards who can possibly be unified in this world, even if we are divided into different academies, we are still one school. Any behavior encouraging division is unacceptable... Even joking about it is inappropriate, it’s a matter of principle.”

Zheng Qing was startled by his righteous words.

”I’m not supporting division...” He looked around nervously, fearing that ironclad elves would emerge from some corner and throw him out of the school.

”It’s that little old man, our divination professor, who uses inappropriate language during lectures,” Zheng Qing hurriedly slurped down half the bowl of chickpea soup and wiped his mouth; ”Don’t you feel he isn’t treating all students equally?”

”Exactly, exactly, it’s just incomprehensible. I don’t get how the school would hire a professor with such a bad attitude and a discriminatory tendency,” Duan Xiao Jian begins, pounding his thin crisp in the bowl to dust with a small mallet from his desk, nodding in agreement, and continuing, ”If it wasn’t for the robe I was wearing, I would have thought we were students at Alpha Academy this morning.”

”It’s easy to understand a bad attitude. But what do you mean by discrimination? Didn’t the professor just dock points from a public-funded student? I didn’t sense any difference in his treatment of students,” Xin Fat Man responds, lifting his chin, and looking with interest as Duan Xiao Jian infuses half a bowl of thin crisp powder in hot milk. He asks curiously, ”That’s an interesting way of eating... how does it taste?”

Duan Xiao Jian scoops a large spoonful of sticky stuff from the milk, carelessly shoving it into his mouth, shows satisfaction as he closes his eyes, and gives the fat man a thumbs up.

Zheng Qing watches with an open mouth.

”As for discrimination, there’s certainly a bit of that in old man Yi’s attitude.” The scholarship student turns his head to the other side, looks at Xiao Xiao, and asks in a low voice, ”How do you feel about anonymously reporting his unfair remarks in class to the joint faculty meeting?”

”You’d have to retake this course next year,” Zhang Ji Xin perks up his ears and forcibly injects himself into the conversation, ”And, I’ve been confused since we started talking... what do you mean the professor is prejudiced?”

”People without talent might as well give up on this course now,” Zheng Qing coughs twice, mimics Professor Yi’s dry tone, and grunts, ”Without talent, even if you waste more time on this course, at best, you can only see a little higher, a little farther, and a little clearer than ordinary people.”

”That’s just the truth,” Zhang Ji Xin shrugs nonchalantly, his spoon hovering between the two bowls of pale green ice cream in front of him, finally choosing the bowl without Zheng Qing’s spoon print.

”Green tea flavor,” he nods with satisfaction, digging out another large spoonful, ”Isn’t this reliance on talent the Admissions Guideline of Alpha Academy? In that castle, there are plenty of people who think like that.”

”But this is Jiuyou’s school,” Zheng Qing emphasizes.

”Professor Yi is a graduate of Alpha Academy,” Doctor Xiao’s voice drifts over from the other side.

”A graduate from Alpha!” Zheng Qing’s face registers surprise, ”Has Jiuyou run out of people?!”

”Every academy has its own strengths, that’s common knowledge,” Xiao Xiao sighs, sounding somewhat helpless, ”The professor was the first non-Augustus student council president in Alpha’s history... Alpha at that time was very class-conscious. Professor Yi Jiaz was from a wizarding family, but his family’s financial situation was far less comfortable than that of other aristocratic families.”

”More correctly, he was unpopular,” Zhang Ji Xin scoffs, adding, ”Our school has never cared about one’s origins, so he naturally chose a place that was more comfortable to live in.”

Zheng Qing hears this for the first time.

So his attention is quickly absorbed by gossip about that big monkey.

Until on the way to the Book Mountain Library, he continues to pester Doctor Xiao, trying to pry more anecdotes about Professor Yi from him for his future plans for revenge.

Xiao Xiao, unable to bear the constant pestering, finally changes the subject to something else.

”Did you have a nightmare last night?” The doctor looks at him solemnly, ”This morning while I was looking up information in the library, I found out that a kind of minor curse can cause frequent nightmares...”

”That’s an old problem of mine,” Zheng Qing waves his hands dismissively, ”We’re not some big shot... ’there are always troublemakers out to get me,’ is paranoia, it’s an illness, it needs to be cured.”

”But you haven’t had headaches, right.” Xiao Xiao adjusts his glasses and looks at him seriously, ”I remember you saying that your old problem is headaches... nightmares are just a side effect.”

Zheng Qing is stunned.

”Even though you’re not a big shot, you’ve offended a few,” Xin Fat Man’s sinister voice rings out from behind the two, ”Maybe those two big shots have reached some understanding with you... but the world never lacks people who ’second guess the intentions of others’, there’s a bunch of witches in Alpha Academy who want to breed bat kids for the Karen Family.”

”If you were knocked down by these underhanded maneuvers, that understanding would naturally cease to exist... those two wouldn’t hesitate to give you a few more kicks,” Xiao Xiao concludes, ”So, the urgent thing is not to cause trouble for that professor... but to first figure out how to cover your own ass.”

Zheng Qing is taken aback.
