Rebirth: Splendid Marriage in the 80s

Chapter 3087: Chapter 3023: What More Could Be Asked for as Betrothal Gifts

”Everything is ready. Brother Xinian will wear his uniform then.”

As for her, she would wear a dress, a red one. She and Wang Yi went out to find someone to have it custom made. The style was something she liked, inspired by the bridal dresses she had seen in her past life. She sketched it out and found an excellent tailor to make it for her. It would be ready for pickup in a few days.

”That’s good, that’s good,” Old Meng said. ”As for the tables and chairs for that day, I’ve already arranged for someone to lend them to us. We’ll use a tricycle to transport them over.”

”Thank you, Grandpa.”

”No need to thank me. By the way, Little, do you think I should call your dad to discuss the dowry?”

”Dowry?”

”Yes, our family has to give you a dowry. I won’t discuss this with you; I have to talk to your dad.”

Jiang Xiao shook her head, ”No need, Grandpa. Brother Xinian has already given it, there’s no need to give more.”

”Xinian gave it? When?”

”The house, the shop, those are what Brother Xinian gave me as a dowry, so there’s no need to give more.”

Back when he bought that house in City M, Meng Xinian had already given five thousand.

Back then, taking out five thousand at once was truly not easy and certainly very generous, extremely generous.

In fact, such a dowry was already quite substantial, but later on, Meng Xinian also gave her the Youqingwei shop and bought her a courtyard house; this was indeed a very large dowry.

Not to mention, the Meng Family Old Mansion is actually under her name now; one could say it’s hers.

Moreover, Old Meng had also given her a box of jewelry from Grandma Meng earlier. Meng Xinian also gave her a box of jewelry from Nian Chengcheng.

Meng Xinian had given her everything he could, one could say he gave his all. How could she ask for any more dowry?

Old Meng shook his head, ”Those were given by Xinian before. When you get married, there should still be something given, and I should discuss this with your dad.”

Jiang Xiao thought for a moment and said, ”How about I call him now and explain the situation first, then you can discuss it with him.”

Where does the Meng Family have any money now?

Jiang Xiao was aware of this, so she wanted to talk to her father first to hope that he wouldn’t take issue with the Meng Family over this matter.

”Alright, you call first.”

Jiang Xiao then made a phone call.

Sun Han answered the phone, saying that the Sixth Young Master was discussing matters with Yue Yang in the study.

As soon as Jiang Xiao heard that he was discussing matters with Yue Yang in the study, she knew it was something important.

”Wait till they’re done, let my dad return my call. I’m at the Meng Family Old Mansion.”

She also took the opportunity to ask Sun Han about the situation over there in the past few days.

”The Lu Family has disrupted several of the Jiang Family’s seafood trade routes and sent people to create trouble at the Jiang Family’s trading point over in Pingzhou. Now it’s a mess with Fourth Madam over there because they used to manage the business in Pingzhou, and now they’re saying business can’t go on, so they have no income and want to redirect some business from the old master over there.”

Sun Han summarized the past few days’ events briefly.

”The old master has already handed most of the business to the Sixth Young Master, but some of the accounts have been withheld by other members of the Jiang Family for various reasons and not turned in. Among those that have been turned in, the Sixth Young Master discovered many problems. The biggest issue is a mysterious sum of money that has been disappearing from the Jiang Family’s accounts every year for many years. The Sixth Young Master has been tracking down the whereabouts of that money.”
