Rebirth: Splendid Marriage in the 80s

Chapter 3051: Chapter 2987: Burned Good Incense

Ji Qin said, ”Sorry, I really don’t have many friends, and with the few I do have, even if we chat we never get to the point.”

Jiang Xiao smiled. ”Chatting with me might not get to the point either.”

She wasn’t someone who was good at chatting.

If Ji Qin had simply asked her out just to talk, she probably wouldn’t have come. Because she felt she and Ji Qin weren’t familiar enough yet to specifically go out for tea and a chat, especially after she’d found out that Ji Qin had that kind of interest in Ding Haijing.

She was afraid Ji Qin would keep asking her about Ding Haijing.

Ji Qin took a sip of tea, let out a soft sigh, and said, ”I know, we’ve interacted a few times now, I more or less understand what you’re like.”

That sentence was actually quite candid, very straightforward.

This was one of the reasons Jiang Xiao had some goodwill toward Ji Qin: she was real, and she was also very hardworking and serious about her job.

Otherwise she wouldn’t have agreed to cooperate with Capital City Pictorial at all.

”Mainly, you met that guy last time too, so I feel like if I talk to you about it, you’ll probably understand better.”

”That guy?” Jiang Xiao raised her brows, then reacted; Ji Qin was probably talking about that man she’d been set up with last time.

The one whose expression changed as soon as he heard she’d ordered four tea pastries.

Ji Qin nodded and said, ”Right, him, Ma Guoqun. Didn’t I go on a blind date with him last time? My aunt works in the same place as Ma Guoqun’s father, so after my aunt told my parents about the Ma Family’s situation, everyone in my family was totally in favor of me dating him. They all think his family’s conditions are great.”

”The Ma Family’s conditions are great?”

”Pretty decent, and I heard their relatives are all people of some standing too.” Ji Qin gave a bitter little laugh, then added, ”And another thing, even though Ma Guoqun isn’t much to look at, he’s fairly tall and sturdy. Clothes make the man—if he’s dressed properly he doesn’t look too bad. My mom said I’m not much to look at either.”

Jiang Xiao glanced at her. ”You’re quite warm-looking, the kind of face that grows on you.”

”Really? Thanks.” Ji Qin touched her own face and said, ”Anyway, everyone at home thinks landing a boyfriend like this is already like burning high-grade incense at the temple. They keep telling me I have to cherish it, keep dating him properly, and try to get married by the end of the year.”

Now it seemed there was less than half a year left till the end of the year.

But in this era people rarely had long-term relationships; basically once things were going okay, they got married. Jiang Xiao lifted her teacup, took a sip, and asked, ”But it seems like you don’t like this Ma Guoqun?”

If she liked him, she wouldn’t have this expression or mood right now.

Ji Qin sighed. ”I actually had a decent impression of him at first, but Xiao Chiang, you know what? That day we saw you here, right after you walked away, he started badmouthing you. I feel like you can judge a person’s character from the little things—this guy’s morals really aren’t great.”

Jiang Xiao couldn’t help laughing.

Her hearing was excellent—better than ordinary people could imagine.

So when Ma Guoqun said that bad thing about her that day, she actually heard it right then. But since he was a stranger and they were unlikely to ever cross paths, she didn’t take either the words or the man to heart.

She just hadn’t expected Ji Qin to feel she’d seen through Ma Guoqun because of that one sentence.

Anyway, at this moment she felt a bit more goodwill toward Ji Qin again.
