Rebirth: Splendid Marriage in the 80s

Chapter 1645: Chapter 1647: Can We Depart?

Chiang Xiao came back to her senses and looked at Cheng Cheng, saying, ”So you’re out here being a Supervisor Guard, leaving him alone at home, is that okay?”

”I asked him to come out, but he refused,” Cheng Cheng said helplessly. ”He said it’s safe there. I send money back every month and have an auntie take care of him. Also, he writes to me, and I brought the latest letter with me. Do you want to see it?”

Cheng Cheng took a letter out of his pocket and handed it to her.

Chiang Xiao looked at the letter and took a deep breath.

She had seen the handwriting of that young man Old Bai mentioned, so just by looking at the characters on the envelope, she recognized it was the same handwriting.

She pulled out the letter, which was just a thin single sheet, and the content only filled half a page.

However, the handwriting was incredibly beautiful, elegant, and refined. Although it was similar to what she had seen before, it showed progress and was much more orderly.

”Ah Cheng, Zhan Xinan. It has been half a month since I received the letter, and due to bad weather, my headaches have worsened lately, so I have been slow to pick up the pen and reply. But, do not worry, I am feeling better today...”

A few short sentences still carried the tone of olden days.

However, it truly did not seem like a letter written by someone with intellectual deficiencies.

The signature was only a single character, ’Liu.’

Chiang Xiao read the letter twice, and suddenly her eyes felt a bit warm.

Cheng Cheng looked at her and said, ”I’ve told you everything I can. Can you tell me now what your relationship with your foster father is? Why are you looking for him?”

Chiang Xiao bit her lower lip, looked at him, and asked, ”Haven’t you looked into me?”

Cheng Cheng suddenly smiled, ”Why would I look into you? Besides, after I came to City M, Officer Meng has been watching me. If I investigated you, he would tear me apart first. I don’t know where Officer Meng learned his skills; I thought I was already quite strong, but I can never beat him.”

”Well, you don’t stand a chance,” Meng Xinian glanced at him.

He suddenly thought of a question. Ah Liu was undoubtedly Chiang Xiao’s biological father, but he was Cheng Cheng’s foster father, so by this relation—

Cheng Cheng became Chiang Xiaoxiao’s brother?

Why does he feel so displeased about that?

”He might be my father,” Chiang Xiao took a deep breath, returned the letter to Cheng Cheng, and said, ”I am an illegitimate child, and for so many years, I’ve never known who my biological father was. Only recently I found my grandparents’ daughter, learned the truth from those years, and thus stumbled upon a clue.”

Hearing her roundabout introduction and the fact that she referred to her mother as ”grandparents’ daughter,” Cheng Cheng realized that Chiang Xiao’s background might be quite complicated.

Moreover, her biological mother must have been unreliable; otherwise, why wouldn’t Chiang Xiao acknowledge her?

He himself was an orphan and knew the hardships and sorrows of being parentless.

Looking at Chiang Xiao, he couldn’t help but feel a sense of compassion.

Although she had her grandparents, from what he had seen and heard recently, it seemed that Chiang Xiao was the one supporting the family, so she must have had a tough time all these years.

”I’ll take you back to meet him.”

Chiang Xiao stood up, ”Can you set off now?”

Cheng Cheng looked at Meng Xinian.

”If Officer Meng doesn’t give me any trouble, I can.” His secondment task should already be completed.

Meng Xinian also stood up, ”I’ll go with you, but first, I need to return to the barracks. Little, just be patient a bit longer, two hours, okay?”
