Rebirth: Splendid Marriage in the 80s

Chapter 1621: Chapter 1623: Rock and Roll Men and Women

Chiang Xiao felt like she was about to be swamped with a million things to do.

But she still wanted to go home for a bit—her heart was set on visiting her grandmother.

Carrying her bag, she hurried toward home, thinking about how she needed to call her grandparents and Meng Xinian as soon as she got back. However, the moment she walked past Kuang Yunxian’s house, a cacophony of noise hit her ears, leaving them ringing.

Earlier, Kuang Yunxian had told her that as long as he could find the witness to his parents’ house purchase back in the day and locate the contract, he could reclaim the property. And, he’d already gone ahead and changed the lock on the front door.

But Chiang Xiao hadn’t expected the situation to turn out like this.

The front door was wide open. Glancing inside, the yard was packed with people, a deafening rock song blasting from a recorder. A few young men were screaming along at the top of their lungs, their words completely unintelligible.

Several young women were bouncing around nearby, laughing and shouting, with empty beer bottles strewn all over the ground.

All of them were dressed similarly, wearing flared bell-bottom jeans and colorful shirts tied at the waist. Some had oversized coats, sunglasses, and were twisting their bodies to the music.

It could barely be called dancing.

The noise was unbearable.

Chiang Xiao’s face darkened instantly.

What the hell was Kuang Yunxian up to?

Could it be that after all his effort, he’d still let Kuang Huizhi’s family move in?

It was a little after five in the afternoon now, so at least she could somewhat tolerate the racket. But if it continued into the night, she’d absolutely explode.

She decided to wait and deal with it later.

Gritting her teeth, Chiang Xiao hurried past their house and went home. After putting her things down, she washed her hair, took a shower, and came out ready to call her grandparents.

”Little, you’re back?” Chiang Songhai and Ge Liutao had been thinking about her for the past two weeks, waiting for her call.

Though Chiang Xiao had given them advance notice before she left, assuring them she’d be with Liu Guoying, Principal Fu, and the entire class, they couldn’t help but worry since they couldn’t contact her directly.

”Grandpa?”

Just as Chiang Xiao was about to speak, a burst of laughter and shrieking erupted next door, followed by a loud thudding sound that drowned out Chiang Songhai’s voice entirely.

Even Chiang Songhai on the other end of the line could hear it.

”Little, what’s going on? Why is it so noisy over there?”

”Grandpa, it’s fine. I’m back. It’s just that the neighbors are being too loud.” Chiang Xiao had to shout for him to hear her clearly. ”Let me go talk to them real quick. I’ll call you back later.”

”Alright, but don’t be hasty. Talk to them nicely—you’re neighbors after all. Keep things cordial.”

Chiang Songhai’s words were already hard for her to hear, as the speakers next door seemed to have gotten even louder.

She hung up and took a deep breath.

Alright. She wouldn’t lose her temper. She was a lady. She’d simply go over and handle things politely.

Chiang Xiao opened her door and made her way to the house next door.

She caught a whiff of beer even before reaching the entrance.

Just as she moved closer, she saw an older man being shoved out by a group of young men. They pushed him until he stumbled over the threshold and nearly fell.

Chiang Xiao quickly reached out to steady him.

She knew this man—he lived in a house on the other side of the Kong family’s property, directly across from hers.

”Hey, you lot!”

The man steadied himself and glared angrily at the young men, then glanced back and noticed Chiang Xiao. He let out a long sigh and said to her, ”Young lady, I bet they’re bothering you, too?”

He knew Chiang Xiao, though only barely—they were neighbors but didn’t even have a nodding acquaintance. At most, they recognized each other in passing.
