Rebirth: Splendid Marriage in the 80s

Chapter 1610: Chapter 1612: The Rich

”I know her! What a coincidence—we’re Chiang Xiao’s roommates from the same dormitory,” Ye Wanqing said sweetly.

Deng Qingjiang raised his eyebrows. ”Oh? Is that so? What a coincidence indeed. That’s perfect. Could I trouble you... and this classmate here, to take me to your dormitory?”

”Sure,” they replied.

”Come, come, get in the car. I can drive it inside, right?”

”You can drive up to the front of the dormitory,” Ye Wanqing explained as she lightly tugged Xie Landi.

Xie Landi looked at the car, hesitated slightly, and held onto Ye Wanqing. ”Wanqing, perhaps we shouldn’t get in the car?”

”Get in the car! Aren’t we supposed to show him the way? This is a good deed! Chiang Xiao wouldn’t possibly get mad over something like this, right?” Ye Wanqing said as she pulled Xie Landi onto the car.

As soon as she got on, Ye Wanqing couldn’t help but suppress the urge to touch and look around—it wouldn’t do to make herself seem unsophisticated. She sat upright with her hands placed neatly on her knees.

Deng Qingjiang glanced back at them, smiled slightly, and said, ”Relax. Since you’re all Chiang Xiao’s roommates, you can call me Uncle Deng as well. Take it easy.”

Xie Landi hesitated, her mouth slightly open. ”That doesn’t seem appropriate, does it?”

”What’s wrong with that? No need to worry. We’ll likely be seeing each other more often in the future. What are your names?”

Ye Wanqing replied softly, ”My surname is Ye, and my name is Wanqing. Wan as in graceful, qing as in green grass. Her name is Xie Landi.”

”Wanqing—what a nice name,” Deng Qingjiang said as he drove. ”We’re truly fated. You’re Wanqing, and I’m Qingjiang. Both of us have ’qing’ in our names, though mine comes with an additional three strokes of water.”

Having said that, he turned to Xie Landi and remarked, ”Xie as a surname isn’t all that common, is it?”

Deng Qingjiang’s amiable and humorous demeanor quickly put even Xie Landi at ease.

”I’m quite fortunate to have crossed paths with you all even though I missed seeing Chiang Xiao,” Deng Qingjiang said warmly. ”I came from City Z and am planning to set up a factory here in the Capital. You all should come and visit sometime.”

When Ye Wanqing heard that he was going to open a factory, her eyes lit up. ”Uncle Deng, you’re amazing! What kind of factory are you opening?” she asked.

”A furniture factory. Not sure about being amazing—just opening a factory in the suburbs to produce furniture and selling it in the city. Of course, I’ll also have to open a store downtown. The scale—well, probably can’t rank among the top three in the city, but I’ll try to secure a place in the top five. I want to focus on high-end furniture. By the way, if your family ever wants to replace furniture, feel free to reach out to me.”

They don’t even have a house—how could they afford to replace furniture?

Xie Landi simply smiled sheepishly.

Ye Wanqing, however, felt a buzz of curiosity stirring inside her.

A factory? A furniture store?

Aiming for top five in the entire city?

How wealthy would someone like that have to be?

No wonder Chiang Xiao seems like someone who comes from money—turns out her uncle is the one with the wealth!

Why couldn’t someone like him be her uncle instead?

She twisted her fingers, glanced at Xie Landi, then suddenly had an idea. Turning to Deng Qingjiang, she said, ”Uncle Deng, will your furniture store be hiring? Landi is looking for something to do in her spare time.”

Upon hearing this, Xie Landi’s eyes also lit up as she looked at Deng Qingjiang with anticipation.

Chiang Xiao’s roommate working at his store?

This could actually be a way to get closer to Chiang Xiao. Thinking this, Deng Qingjiang smiled and said, ”Of course I’ll need to hire. But I’ll have to check with the steward back at the factory to see which positions are open. I’ll contact you later—how does that sound?”
