Rebirth: Splendid Marriage in the 80s

Chapter 1288: Chapter 1289 Bullying Others

Is this really the kind of influence we want?

Wang Yi held back a laugh, but it was clearly a bit uncomfortable for him.

Chiang Xiao winked at him and suggested, ”How about we compete to see who can run to the top first? Let’s not count the men—just us women?”

She subtly poked Meng Xinian in the waist with her finger but didn’t really put any strength into it.

Officer Meng had performed so well; she was thinking about rewarding him, not punishing him.

Meng Xinian squeezed her hand in return, gave it a gentle pinch, and then let go.

This little troublemaker—with her physical fitness and speed, who could possibly beat her?

But he liked this subtle way she picked on others, cute and mischievous.

Of course, Wang Yi immediately supported the idea. Why would anyone want to be like Xu Yiqiu, needing a man to help her walk up a slope? Did she see herself as some kind of empress dowager?

It was obvious she wanted to find an opportunity for some alone time with someone—perhaps even to whisper sweet nothings with a man?

”Yeah! Count me in!” Wang Yi raised her hand in excitement.

Chiang Xiao shouted toward Ye Xiaoning, ”Ye Xiaoning, we’re going to race up the slope to see the view from Sunset Mountain. You guys want to join?”

Upon hearing this, Ye Xiaoning’s interest was piqued, and she looked toward the other three girls with her.

”Professor Qiu, is it alright if we join them?”

Professor Qiu nodded with a smile, ”Of course, you came out here to have fun. I’ve heard the scenery on Sunset Mountain is quite beautiful, so go take a look.”

”So we can’t join?”

The men also started to make a commotion.

”You men can join, it’s not like you can’t. We’ll have one group for the gentlemen and one group for the ladies,” Meng Xinian announced.

Everyone gathered around.

Ye Xiaoning took a look at Meng Xinian and quickly said, ”Officer Meng, you can’t join! If you do, who could possibly win? How about this, you be our judge!”

”Alright. Everyone who wants to participate, get ready and warm up.” Being a seasoned officer, Meng Xinian was skilled at mobilizing everyone’s enthusiasm. He effortlessly took control of the situation, divided the participants into male and female groups, established the rules of the competition, and even set up rewards and penalties.

The first prize was two roasted rabbit legs for dinner, and the last place finisher had to do twenty push-ups as a penalty.

Everyone was excited, ”Roasted rabbit legs? But where do we get the rabbits from? Wild rabbits?”

Ye Xiaoning’s face flushed with excitement, ”Really? Are there wild rabbits? Will Officer Meng be roasting them himself?”

Meng Xinian’s handsome and valiant appearance made Ye Xiaoning and a few other girls’ hearts flutter, even though two of them were already married.

But they all knew he was Chiang Xiao’s fiancé and didn’t dare to make any inappropriate moves.

Even so, maybe by instinct, they still found themselves trying to get closer to him in whatever way they could.

For instance, wanting to eat the rabbit he roasted himself.

Unfazed, Meng Xinian said, ”For the ladies’ group, whoever comes first, I will personally roast two wild rabbit legs. And I’ll catch them myself; I’ll go and catch two rabbits for an extra dinner treat for you.”

”Wow, that’s fantastic! Now I really feel like running! Just so you all know, I run every day at school!”

Wang Yi gave Chiang Xiao a sidelong glance.

Although she didn’t know Chiang Xiao’s true capabilities, she had come to understand Meng Xinian. Would he really bother to roast rabbits for another woman?

Just thinking about that made it clear who would most likely win in the end.

Chen Yin, however, knew about Chiang Xiao’s skills.

Back when Meng Xinian returned from a mission, one of the foreign assassins pursuing him was said to have been incapacitated by Chiang Xiao.
