Rebirth: Splendid Marriage in the 80s

Chapter 1263: Chapter 1264: Annoyed

”Not only he’s not here, Grandpa took Alliance Officer Meng to the Neighboring City,” Chiang Xiao said. ”They heard there’s a doctor with exceptional medical skills there, so they rushed to look for him. Lady Duan said they won’t be back for at least another four days.”

Mutong looked at Chiang Xiao with a slight surprise.

Apart from the term ’Grandpa,’ her way of addressing the Meng family members distanced itself considerably, using terms like Alliance Officer Meng, Lady Duan.

She glanced at Duan Qingqing, whose expression seemed a bit stiff.

In fact, she was nearly infuriated.

This damn girl Chiang Xiao, if she didn’t want to call her Aunt Qing, she should at least have called her Madam Meng! What did she mean by Lady Duan?

When Meng Xinian heard this, his face also slightly darkened.

It was understandable that Old Meng and Meng Chaojun were anxious about the illness and didn’t want to miss any hope, but knowing that they were trying hard to find medicine for Meng Chaojun, shouldn’t they have made a phone call to discuss it before leaving?

”Did they tell Chen Baoshen about it?”

”After I finished eating, I went to Renzhi Hall, and Grandpa Chen didn’t mention this matter to me; it seems he doesn’t know,” Chiang Xiao added.

That meant they hadn’t informed Chen Baoshen either?

Now Meng Chaojun was taking medicine concocted jointly by Chen Baoshen and Chiang Xiao. If they went to another doctor and that doctor prescribed a different formula, could it potentially conflict with what Chen Baoshen had prescribed?

Some conflicts between medicines could be deadly.

So, shouldn’t they have informed Chen Baoshen?

”When they come back, give me a call.”

”Okay, there’s another thing.” Chiang Xiao’s tone deepened, ”Someone visited your family, a very beautiful girl, surnamed Nian, your maternal grandfather’s granddaughter, and she took the Nian family name. Shall I let her talk to you for a bit?”

”Little...”

Meng Xinian felt a sudden lurch in his heart at the mention of her name, but before he could react, Chiang Xiao, seemingly not hearing him, already handed the phone to Mutong, ”Miss Nian, would you like to talk to your cousin?”

”Alright.”

Mutong came over, took the phone, and immediately called out brightly, ”Brother Xinian, I’m Mutong. You can call me Xiao Tong. Sorry for the sudden visit, I haven’t had a chance to contact you ahead of time.”

On the other end, Meng Xinian felt as though a bucket of ice water was splashed over him hearing this ”Brother Xinian.”

Chilling to the core.

He instantly understood that Chiang Xiao’s primary purpose for this call wasn’t to inform him that Old Meng and his son were out seeking medical advice; it was to introduce the existence of Mutong!

No, it was to let him personally hear her call him ”Brother Xinian!”

He suddenly felt overwhelmed.

”Give the phone to Chiang Xiao.”

His tone hardened.

”Brother Xinian, my mom and your mom are sisters...”

Mutong hadn’t finished her sentence when Meng Xinian’s voice turned even colder, ”I asked you to give the phone to Chiang Xiao. Can’t you understand human speech?”

”Okay, Brother Xinian, please hold on.”

Mutong handed the phone to Chiang Xiao, ”Brother Xinian wants you on the phone.”

Chiang Xiao said, ”No need, you two siblings have a good chat. I’ll go upstairs.”

After saying that, she ignored Duan Qingqing and headed upstairs.

On the other end of the phone, Meng Xinian heard her and a thought instantly crossed his mind.

This time, Chiang Xiaoxiao was annoyed.
