Rebirth: Splendid Marriage in the 80s

Chapter 1049: Chapter 1050: Is It That Serious?

”He had a brain scan, and they suspect there’s something growing inside,” Old Meng said as he sat down on the sofa, heaving a deep sigh. When he first heard the results, he thought he had misheard.

Meng Chaojun usually had a healthy appetite and slept well, seeming very energetic and rarely even catching a cold.

Because he always thought his son was very strong, Old Meng never even let him try the Nourishing Body Tea that Chiang Xiao offered, fearing that he would share it with his dutiful wife.

This was a sore spot with his son.

If he had known something was growing in his son’s brain, he would have made him drink more of it. Chiang Xiao had said that the tea had health and body-nurturing effects.

Chiang Xiao was shocked. She had anticipated it might be serious, but she hadn’t expected it to be this serious.

”What is growing? Is it benign or malignant?”

Old Meng looked at her in surprise.

He had just learned that there was a distinction between benign and malignant growths in the brain, and he hadn’t expected Chiang Xiao to immediately ask such a crucial question.

It wasn’t strange to Chiang Xiao herself; she came from an era of information overload. A lot of information was unconsciously tucked into her mind, even some from non-professionals.

But in this era, things were much more isolated. Unless someone studied it, knew someone who had suffered from this condition, or was a medical professional, they generally didn’t know.

”It’s not yet certain. They need to do a detailed examination tomorrow. The chief neurologist happens to be out of town at a conference, and he won’t be back until three days later,” Old Meng sighed again. ”I really didn’t expect anything like this to happen to Chaojun...”

Chiang Xiao remained silent.

She hadn’t expected it either.

The first time she visited the Meng Family, the first time she met him, it just so happened that Meng Chaojun was suffering from a severe headache that led to this major issue.

If it’s benign, that’s still bearable, some medication might treat it.

But if it’s malignant, that would likely require surgical intervention. Even twenty years later, such surgery couldn’t guarantee a 100% success rate, let alone in the early 1980s when medical standards were still poor?

”Grandpa, you needn’t worry too much,” Chiang Xiao comforted him after a moment of silence. ”It might still be benign, and if so, the problem isn’t too serious.”

”How can it not be serious? If it really was benign, why would he constantly complain about headaches?” Old Meng leaned back on the sofa, looking tired and worried. ”Little, call Xinian and tell him to take the day off tomorrow and come back.”

Chiang Xiao didn’t mention that she had already made a call, glancing up at the clock.

It was already 1:20 AM.

Following her gaze, Old Meng said, ”Go ahead. I’m afraid that if something really happens, the father and son might not even get to see each other one last time.”

He was already thinking that pessimistically.

Chiang Xiao acknowledged and made the call.

Xiao Qian, the operator, could already recognize her voice.

”Sister-in-law, are you looking for Officer Meng right now?”

”There’s been an accident at home, he must be notified immediately, please help,” Chiang Xiao said.

Xiao Qian responded immediately.

Meng Xinian had actually just fallen asleep not long ago, thinking about Chiang Xiao staying in his room for the night had led him to various fanciful thoughts.

Hearing the knock at the door, he immediately sat up, his first thought being that something had happened.

He hurried to the phone and, upon hearing Chiang Xiao’s words, Meng Xinian was stunned.

He had never imagined that man would suddenly discover such a major issue.

”Grandpa wants you to take leave and come back tomorrow.”

Chiang Xiao said.
