Rebirth: Splendid Marriage in the 80s

Chapter 1041: Chapter 1042: Gained an Ally

Duan Qingqing had actually guessed it, but still appeared extremely surprised, ”Oh, so the Xiao Chiang who called earlier is you! I didn’t expect you to be this pretty! Just before I came downstairs, I heard you guys chatting away happily. Are you the child of one of my dad’s old friends? When I asked you on the phone today, you didn’t say.”

Hmm, isn’t that ill-mannered?

When the elder took the initiative to ask about her identity, she actually did not reveal it.

Meng Chaojun frowned.

Earlier, when Chiang Xiao had shown no self-awareness and dared to echo Old Meng’s remarks to ridicule Duan Qingqing, any positive first impression he had of Chiang Xiao dissipated instantly.

This girl really has no manners or politeness at all!

At such a time, outsiders are supposed to play mediator, right? Was she just trying to please his dad?

Did she think by pleasing him she could find a backer in this household?

What a scheming, utilitarian child!

He wouldn’t want Xinian to marry such a girl even if her status was acceptable!

”I felt there was absolutely no need to report my family background to you in detail at that time,” Chiang Xiao said unabashedly as she looked directly at Duan Qingqing, then added clearly, ”Of course, I also feel there is no need right now.”

Duan Qingqing was taken aback and, after grasping her meaning, nearly twisted her mouth in anger.

This damn girl!

Was she implying that she had no right to inquire about her identity because she wasn’t the lady of the house or anyone to Meng Xinian?

”Xiao Chiang, what do you mean by that?”

Duan Qingqing took a deep breath, worried that Meng Chaojun hadn’t caught the implication of Chiang Xiao’s words, and hinted to him, ”You call my father-in-law ’Grandpa’ and called my house, so of course I can ask about your identity, can’t I?”

It was only then that Meng Chaojun reacted and glared fiercely at Chiang Xiao.

Chiang Xiao acted as if she didn’t see it.

”No. How I address Grandpa is my business, and it has nothing to do with you. I was looking for Grandpa, not you,” she stated bluntly. ”And, any polite person wouldn’t persistently interrogate a stranger about their family background after receiving a phone call, would they?”

Seeing how much Meng Chaojun cared for her and defended her, she suddenly really wanted to take the opportunity to fiercely retort Duan Qingqing in front of him.

She finally understood Old Meng’s feelings.

It was all because of feeling injustice for Meng Xinian and feeling sorry for him.

Just by looking at this woman’s behavior, one could tell how much Meng Xinian had suffered under her from childhood to adulthood, and how many times Meng Chaojun had caused him grief by defending this woman.

So, she naturally couldn’t miss an opportunity to take grievances back for him.

”Chiang Xiao! How dare you! Do you have any upbringing at all? Who taught you to talk like this? What right or position do you have to be in the Meng Family’s home, speaking such insolent words to the lady of the house, to my wife Meng Chaojun?”

Meng Chaojun, seeing the tears in Duan Qingqing’s eyes, felt his anger rising.

Seeing Chiang Xiao’s calm demeanor suddenly reminded him of Meng Xinian’s consistently cold face towards them.

These two kids actually gave him a very similar impression!

”Grandpa said that this will be my home as well. Right, Grandpa?” Chiang Xiao also returned the courtesy to Old Meng; since he had pulled her into this situation, she naturally couldn’t just stand by and watch.

Old Meng nodded vigorously, ”Yes! I said it, Meng Donghai said it!”

That feeling was really damn good!

Meng Donghai finally felt like he wasn’t fighting alone in this household! He had an ally!

Wahaha!

For a moment, Old Meng felt triumphant!

That’s why bringing Chiang Xiao back was indeed the right decision!

This child was just to his liking!
