Rebirth: Splendid Marriage in the 80s

Chapter 1036: Chapter 1037: Want to Infuriate Her

Old Meng gave her a stern look, ”Are you not believing in your grandfather’s words?”

”Cough cough. Grandpa, didn’t you just say that it is just a rumor, that it cannot be taken as truth?”

And now he wanted her to believe it? How could she believe it.

”It might not be reliable, but that doesn’t mean it’s completely unreliable! Anyway, I’d rather believe it exists!” Old Meng stubbornly said, ”Think about it, that’s the Nian Family’s property, and now the Nian Family... doesn’t have many people left, only Xinian has half of the Nian Family bloodline, you tell me, if these things really are hidden in the old mansion, shouldn’t they belong to Xinian? How could they belong to the Duan Family! So, this old mansion must be preserved for Xinian, for the Nian Family!”

He couldn’t possibly give it to Duan Qingqing.

Seeing her acting like the mistress every day, Old Meng felt his heart and liver ache with anger.

Thus, the more he thought about it, the more he believed that bringing Little back was the best solution!

Look, the old mansion still has its true mistress!

He made up his mind, not allowing Chiang Xiao any chance to back out.

After dinner, he directly dragged her back to the Meng Family.

Upon entering the Alliance District Courtyard, they walked along a spacious road, which split into two at the end. One side had neatly arranged two-story buildings, the other was a smaller path lined with ginkgo trees, leading to a single house at the end.

The courtyard was enclosed with a grayish-stone wall and a black iron gate dotted with gold, housing a two-story building of the same style.

”This was of course renovated before, but not drastically.” Old Meng led her towards the main gate, ”Doesn’t look very pretty from here, does it?”

After all, it was an old house.

He thought that the young girl might not like it.

But little did he know that Chiang Xiao’s eyes were wide open.

How could it not be beautiful?

She felt that the old mansion really had character! It looked fantastic! It was just like a painting!

The leaves of the ginkgo were turning green but there was still some golden yellow. The ground was covered with fallen leaves like a carpet made from oil paintings. The grayish building, the dark red roof, the white balcony railings, the colored glass windows, faintly visible were the dark gold embossed curtains inside.

There was a red maple in the courtyard, its leaves half green and half red now.

The trees and the mansion together looked extremely harmonious, rich in color, truly a sight that brightened Chiang Xiao’s eyes.

Meng Xinian used to live in such a beautiful place!

”Grandpa, this place is beautiful!” Chiang Xiao exclaimed.

Old Meng was very pleased to hear her say this, saying, ”Some of these trees were planted by Xinian’s grandmother.”

”Is the red maple in the courtyard also one of them?”

”Yes, that too. One year she went out for a trip, saw a red maple, and kept saying it was beautiful. I searched for a long time before I found one and then brought it back to plant here.” Old Meng sighed.

Chiang Xiao slipped her arm through his.

In that moment, she suddenly felt Old Meng’s loneliness and melancholy.

He must be missing his wife, right? And this courtyard must hold many of their memories too.

Old Meng patted the back of her hand, smiling.

”The courtyard gate is usually just closed, not locked, and there are no keys. I’ll have someone make you a set of keys for the main gate and the rooms inside later.”

”Okay.”

In that moment, Chiang Xiao suddenly didn’t want to refuse his heartfelt wish anymore.

And her easy compliance made Old Meng even happier.

”Little, you are a good child!”

Pushing the door open, the courtyard was clearly well-maintained, simple, but very appealing.

A cobblestone path, a small pond with several fish, divided by a long flowerbed, and on the other side a clay tiled area, with a table and four chairs in one corner.
