Rebirth: Splendid Marriage in the 80s

Chapter 970: Chapter 971: A Cut Above the Rest

Addressing them as ”Professor” also made him feel as if he were quite cultured himself, not like a coarse country bumpkin.

Cui Dayuan and the others exchanged a glance and nodded in agreement.

”Yes, we are professors from Province X University. Some of us teach biology, some teach archaeology, and others teach history. We wanted to go to the mountains to find some rare specimens to broaden the horizons of our students in the city. But living in the city, there are quite a few things in the mountains that we don’t recognize.”

Upon hearing this, Chiang Songtao felt even more impressed.

”You’re university professors? Oh my, we indeed have distinguished guests in our home today! Then I was wrong; I should have addressed you as professors.”

”No need to be so formal, may I have your esteemed surname?”

”The surname is Chiang, please, it’s no trouble at all,” said Chiang Songtao, somewhat excited.

But having several university professors visiting his home made him feel quite esteemed!

Chiang Caijiao brought in tea and listened to the conversation with sparkling eyes.

University professors, so impressive!

Her parents had gone to City M, saying they would let her little uncle help them find jobs in the schools of City M. Once they settled down, they planned to bring them over as well, and Chiang Caijiao had been waiting for just that.

In the future, she might become a city dweller too.

She now had to learn how the city folk spoke, so that when she went to the city for her studies, she wouldn’t be laughed at by the other students there!

With this in mind, Chiang Caijiao sat to the side and listened to their conversation.

”That’s just it, Uncle Chiang, we were thinking of renting a place to stay in the village, but after asking around, it seems the locals don’t have any rooms to spare. Someone pointed us in this direction, saying there might be a house available to lend us for a while?”

Upon hearing this, Chiang Songtao became even more excited, renting a house?

Having university professors rent their house was no small matter!

”Yes, yes, yes, we can make do with two, no, three rooms available. Do you think that would be enough?”

At this news, Cui Dayuan and his group were immediately delighted.

”Three rooms are more than enough. So about the rent, should we pay it upfront, or should we tally it up and pay when we are about to leave? During our stay, we might also trouble you, Uncle, to provide us with some meals and tea, and of course, we will pay for these at that time.”

Hearing this, Chiang Songtao thought it was an opportunity to sell them a favor now, and perhaps they might give him some extra money later. Even if they didn’t, it would at least leave them with a much better impression of him.

After all, whether they paid sooner or later didn’t matter!

They were all university professors, surely they wouldn’t leave without paying such a small amount of money?

He immediately said very generously, ”We’ll settle it later then, I trust the professors.”

”Then we are very much obliged, Uncle Chiang. You seem to be a cultured man yourself.”

”My younger son is studying in the provincial capital, and my eldest has also gone there to work,” said Chiang Songtao, proudly declaring.

”No wonder, no wonder. It’s a cultured family, clearly not ordinary villagers.”

Chiang Songtao was so flattered he was on cloud nine. When Ho Laidi returned from cutting pig grass, he immediately told her the news and then had her take Chiang Caijiao to tidy up the rooms for their guests.

Ho Laidi, excited at the prospect of rent, was only slightly annoyed upon hearing that Chiang Songtao had told them they could pay when they left.

”Why didn’t you have them pay now? When they want to eat later on, are you saying I’ll have to front the money?”
