Rebirth: Splendid Marriage in the 80s

Chapter 499: Chapter 500 Another Uncle

Chiang Xiao placed the orchid on her desk, admired it for a moment, then suddenly remembered what she was going to paint for the competition, and decided to depict the tranquil orchids of the valley.

The scenery in the deep mountain of Bai Gu Mountain was extremely beautiful; she chose the same location where she had encountered the orchid and freed the large snake, and planned to include those few orchids in her painting.

The orchids were now thriving in her space, making it very convenient to observe their elegant postures.

In the recent days, she had been preoccupied with selecting a subject for her painting, but now that she had made up her mind, she couldn’t help but feel an urge to start painting, and she began to work on it earnestly.

Often, only she and Ge Xiaotong were left at home. When Chiang Xiao was painting, Ge Xiaotong didn’t dare to disturb her and would sew handkerchiefs in her own room instead, both busily engaged in their respective tasks.

Once Chiang Xiao got busy, she would put the news from the Old Chiang Family to the back of her mind, until the second day when Ge Liutao went to the market to buy some things and was stopped by a man.

”Second Auntie!”

Ge Liutao was startled and took two steps back.

Seeing that he had frightened her, the man immediately felt embarrassed and hastily said, ”It’s me, Da Zhi, Qingshui’s husband!”

Only then did Ge Liutao recognize him.

Chiang Qingshui, the only daughter of Chiang Songtao, was just twenty-three this year. However, she had married into Yangkeng Village less than two years ago, to the man now before her, Yang Dazhi.

It’s hard to know what Ho Laidi was thinking before, perhaps influenced by how much Ge Liutao and Chiang Songhai doted on Chiang Qingzhu, she had been quite good to Chiang Qingzhu to some extent.

In her own opinion, Ho Laidi also felt that she had always doted on her daughter.

After all, their family always favored sons over daughters.

But Chiang Qingshui had always felt unsatisfied. With Chiang Qingzhu as a point of comparison, she felt that her status at home was not only less than her younger brother’s, but even inferior to her older brothers’, and so, she had always harbored considerable grievances against her parents.

After marrying Yang Dazhi, she seldom returned to her parental home unless it was necessary.

Yang Dazhi, on the other hand, still made occasional visits to bring Chiang Songtao and Ho Laidi some things. However, it had been over four months since their last meeting, and Ge Liutao almost didn’t recognize him at first.

Yang Dazhi, not yet thirty, had somewhat longer and unkempt hair, his lips were colorless, and his face a bit yellowish, making him look different from the young man he was before.

”Da Zhi, is that you? Did you also come to town?” Ge Liutao had a rather good impression of Yang Dazhi. In her view, Chiang Qingshui had truly married a good man—he was honest, dependable, and hardworking for the family.

”Second Aunt, I came specifically to find you and Second Uncle. There’s been an incident at home, and I wanted to talk to you about it first,” Yang Dazhi looked somewhat downcast, ”Qingshui came too, she’s currently at the hospital taking care of mother.”

Because Chiang Xiao had forgotten to mention this, Ge Liutao was also unaware of any incident. Hearing his words, she was startled and asked, ”What happened to the eldest sister-in-law?”

What happened that she’s in the hospital again?

Oh, last time it was because of Chiang Baohe, could it be that Ho Laidi is sick this time?

Yang Dazhi explained, ”She got hit in the head, the doctor mentioned something, oh, a brain concussion.”

A brain concussion?

Ge Liutao was shocked and blurted out, ”Who hit her?”

”Baohe.”

Ge Liutao was somewhat dazed.

Although Chiang Baohe had a fiery temper and could be quite aggressive towards their family, he had always been relatively decent to his own parents—as far as she knew. How could he have suddenly hit his own mother, causing her to suffer a brain concussion?

Feeling that the situation was beyond her control, Ge Liutao quickly said, ”Your Second Uncle is at home. Come, let’s discuss this at the house.”
