Rebirth: Splendid Marriage in the 80s

Chapter 489: Chapter 490 Ate quite a few dozen

”Grandma, Auntie, I’m back, and I’ve brought some tasty treats for you, hurry up and try some before my cousin gobbles them all up!”

”Hey Little, what do you mean by not letting me eat them all? Am I that greedy?” Ge Xiaotong’s voice was somewhat muffled as she spoke. They all looked over at her to see her mouth stuffed with a pastry, while each hand held a different snack, which made everyone burst into laughter.

Liu Pei walked over and gently tapped her on the forehead, ”Look at you, you gluttonous cat, you really are greedy!”

Feeling a bit embarrassed, Ge Xiaotong chewed and spoke at the same time, ”It’s not my fault, really. It’s all because the things that Little brought back are too delicious! Mom, Auntie, you should try them too!”

As it turned out, Liu Pei wasn’t quite used to the tea-flavored snacks made with tea powder, but she particularly liked the two kinds made with honey and red beans. She ate one of each and would have had a couple more if she weren’t afraid of being too full for dinner later.

Ge Liutao was fond of the one made with mung beans, eating two pieces in succession.

All three were astonished, ”Are the treats from the provincial capital this delicious? Little, it looks like the few boxes you bought are not going to be enough.”

Chiang Xiao winked at them, ”These weren’t bought; these are homemade by an auntie I just met! And just so you know, each piece costs three to four Yuan to make, the most expensive being the ones made with tea powder and honey.”

”What? How much did you say?” Liu Pei was shocked, and so was Ge Xiaotong, who almost choked. She’d eaten the most, unable to stop herself, having tried one of each flavor and consuming five or six pieces already.

”The ingredients for these tea snacks are expensive; they’re made with high-quality ingredients. Even the tea powder is ground from tea leaves costing ten to twenty Yuan, and it takes a lot of powder to make a single pastry, so it’s expensive. And the honey, it’s all fresh wildflower honey from the mountains.” Chiang Xiao wouldn’t have been so thorough in her explanation if she was merely giving the treats for them to enjoy.

Didn’t they see Ge Liutao hesitating whether to continue munching on the piece she had bitten or to put it down?

Such prices could indeed give them a fright.

However, she was planning to have her grandparents learn how to make these tea snacks, so of course, she had to spell it out clearly.

Ge Liutao also ate two, and the mung bean kind was relatively cheaper. But compared to the snacks available in the market, it was still quite expensive.

She swallowed hard.

Liu Pei said naively, ”So, you mean to say that in just a little while, we’ve eaten what amounts to several tens of Yuan?”

Quite a few tens at that! Not a proper meal, no meat or rice, just these little snacks to nibble on, which you could finish in two small bites, had cost them several tens of Yuan!

Liu Pei had not quite eaten three pieces, and it felt as if she hadn’t eaten anything substantial since the pastries were too small.

Chiang Xiao nodded.

”Good gracious, that scared me to death.” Liu Pei quickly patted her chest, ”Little, why didn’t you say something sooner? If you had told us, your auntie surely wouldn’t have eaten any, since these were a gift to you, you should save them and enjoy them slowly.”

Ge Xiaotong also looked guilty.

She had eaten so much...

”Auntie, listen to yourself. Isn’t the whole point of bringing these treats to share them with you? Otherwise, why would I go to all the trouble of bringing them back such a long way? Besides, I’ve already had plenty of them at Aunt Ah Yu’s place these past few days. Moreover, I didn’t just want to let you taste them. When Grandpa gets back, I have some important business to discuss with you.”
