Rebirth: Splendid Marriage in the 80s

Chapter 194: Chapter 194 Turning Around and Pretending Not to Know You

Meng Xinian immediately put down the newspaper and briskly got out of bed, heading outside.

The telephone was in the communications room, not in every ward.

As he stepped out, the young nurse quickly ran in, picked up the newspaper, and looked at it closely.

Spread out on that page was an article about a performing arts troupe, featuring a photograph of a sweet-smiling female Supervisor Guard. She appeared to be no older than eighteen or nineteen, youthful and beautiful, with dewy eyes and jet-black braids hanging in front of her chest, looking very spirited.

The young nurse felt her heart shatter into pieces.

The female Supervisor Guard in the photo was so pretty!

Captain Meng was looking at her with such a tender smile. He must know this female Supervisor Guard, right? She might even be his girlfriend!

There were so many nurses in the hospital who harbored feelings for Captain Meng, it seemed they were all destined for disappointment now.

Meng Xinian answered the call, and upon hearing Zhao Xin’s voice, his eyes brightened slightly, shining like stars.

”Xinzi, did you see her?”

Zhao Xin thought to himself, Captain, you’re so anxious. I barely called out to you, and you’re asking if I’ve seen Sister-in-law.

”Not yet, Captain. I’ve just arrived in Peace Town not long ago and just saw Brother Xi Bing.”

Meng Xinian hummed in response, his tone cooling down slightly, ”Did you make things clear to him?”

”Yes, I did. Right, Captain, Chiang...”

”Hmm?”

The raised pitch in his ”hmm” snapped Zhao Xin back to attention. Chiang Xiao’s name rolled around on his tongue, then grudgingly made its way out, ”...Sister-in-law went into Brother Xi Bing’s shop yesterday.”

”What did she go to Hu Xibing for?”

”To ask about us!” Zhao Xin couldn’t help but chuckle, remembering what Hu Xibing told him, ”Captain, Brother Xi Bing said Sister-in-law has given you a nickname.”

Meng Xinian’s eyebrows raised, ”What nickname did she give me?”

Shouldn’t the little minx be calling him ”Brother Xinian” sweetly and softly? He found it quite pleasant to his ear when she called him that way, and he planned to let her call him that from now on.

Yes, to give her an exclusive term of address. He wouldn’t allow anyone else to use it.

Meng Xinian’s thoughts wandered a bit too far.

Then he heard Zhao Xin’s laughter-suppressing voice, ”Sister-in-law calls you Tyrant Meng.”

”What did you say? Say it again.”

”Tyrant Meng.”

Meng Xinian’s handsome face darkened immediately.

Tyrant Meng?

Where had he been a tyrant?

He wished he could go and confront that girl right now, asking her, where had he been a tyrant! Hadn’t he explained everything to her before? He directly pulled her away last time because it wasn’t convenient to talk there! And afterwards at the teahouse, had he not clarified everything with her?

He ground his teeth, frustrated and wishing he could go to her immediately.

”Captain? I didn’t say this, Sister-in-law did,” Zhao Xin found himself growing more and more accustomed to calling her Sister-in-law.

Meng Xinian suppressed the irritation in his heart, asking, ”What else did she say?”

”Sister-in-law said she hopes Brother Xi Bing will not mention us to her in the future, it would be best to act as if she doesn’t know us at all, since they won’t be seeing each other again anyway.” Zhao Xin scratched his head as he spoke; that’s what Brother Xi Bing had said, right? He seemed not to remember it very clearly — anyhow, it was said that she would not meet them again.

Meng Xinian felt increasingly upset as he listened.

He thought that after their last side-by-side battle and the tacit cooperation, the relationship between him and her could be considered closer than friends. But that girl turned around just to dismiss him?

What to do, he was feeling stifled and found it hard to stay in the hospital—what to do about that!

”Xinzi, you’re going to look for her tomorrow, right?” he asked after taking a deep breath.

Zhao Xin responded confusedly, ”Yes, Captain. Didn’t you ask me to go look for Sister-in-law?”
