Rebirth: Splendid Marriage in the 80s

Chapter 152: Chapter 152: Want to Eat Meat, Want to Eat Meat

”Baoguo’s Wife! What nonsense are you talking about?” Chiang Songhai scolded in a deep voice.

”Oh, Second Uncle, you bought so many things?” Song Xiyun had already seen the table full of items, and forcefully nudged Chiang Xiao, squeezing past her and heading straight for the table.

Chiang Xiao hadn’t expected her to be so shameless and couldn’t stop her in time.

After all, she was an aunt by marriage; she just wanted to enter the house, and Chiang Xiao certainly couldn’t really be rough and push her out.

But Chiang Xiao was on guard, and immediately followed her over.

”We have no more grain left in the house, bought some food, what’s so fancy about that?” Chiang Songhai saw the gleam in Song Xiyun’s eyes and instantly felt somewhat displeased.

Over the years, this great-niece-in-law had come to the family home to take small advantages countless times, becoming increasingly brazen in the past half-year.

Before, he always felt that, after all, they were family, and it didn’t matter if she took some things; having arguments over food never looked good, and after all, suffering losses is a blessing.

So he had always endured it.

But this time, most of these things were bought with the money Chiang Xiao had earned; the rabbits she caught, the mushrooms she picked, the Tianxiang Green she had managed to sell...

So these things could be considered Chiang Xiao’s, and Song Xiyun would certainly be unhappy if she wanted to take them.

”Oh, Second Uncle, are you making a fortune? Isn’t this big chunk of pork belly a good thing?” As soon as Song Xiyun saw the few pounds of pork, her eyes practically stuck to it; these days, apart from the end of the year when pigs are slaughtered, who can easily eat pork?

Now the Chiang Family had actually cut several pounds of the fat and lean pork belly!

Her mouth watered so much she could almost drool.

If sliced thin, with a few cloves of garlic and some soy sauce, stir-fried on high heat, how delicious would that be!

She wanted to eat it, and so did her son!

Song Xiyun reached out to pick up that piece of pork.

Chiang Xiao was quicker, immediately snatching the pork for herself. She looked at Song Xiyun with a mocking smile, ”It’s a good thing, but what does that have to do with you, Great Aunt?”

Song Xiyun was just about to take the meat when Chiang Xiao grabbed it, and she instantly glared at her.

”Chiang Xiao, look at yourself now. Are you guarding the food? Who taught you that! Second Uncle wouldn’t do such a thing; he always used to share half of whatever he bought with the neighbors!”

As she spoke, she turned to Chiang Songhai, her face twisted in distress, ”Second Uncle, you don’t know, our house hasn’t seen the taste of meat for so long. Dad works in the fields every day, and all he chews on is sweet potato vines. With his health, can he manage without some nourishment? And your grandson, Dongdong, is still so small. I heard that children won’t grow if they don’t eat meat! Last night, he dreamed of eating meat, crying while talking in his sleep—oh, it really pained my heart!”

While Song Xiyun spoke, she kept glancing around; suddenly, her eyes fell on two stacked aluminum bowls and quickly reached to uncover the one turned upside down.

Half a bowl of river shrimp and half a bowl of ginger-shredded snail meat caught her eye, making her eyes widen in an instant.

What, there’s even more!

”There’s shrimp too! Ah, now Dongdong can really have a treat!” exclaimed Song Xiyun as she stretched out her hands to grab the two bowls.

Chiang Xiao was once again quicker than her and snatched the bowls away.

”Great Aunt, this is our dinner for tonight; there’s no share for your Dongdong!”

Facing Song Xiyun’s brazen shamelessness, Chiang Xiao got a repeat experience. Chiang Lidong dreaming and calling out for meat? She believed him! After all, the pig raised by the Old Chiang Family was also only slaughtered at the end of the year, and it was already good if they had eggs to eat; Ho Laidi, who held the reins of the household, would never be willing to buy pork to eat.
