Rebirth: Splendid Marriage in the 80s

Chapter 193: Chapter 193: The Captain is Too Cunning

Hu Xibing was stunned. ”What do you mean ’your little sister-in-law’? Wasn’t that just for the mission, a fake act?”

The mission was over, yet Zhao Xin still called her ’little sister-in-law’. Was that appropriate?

Upon hearing this, Zhao Xin became anxious. The captain had told him that he needed to convince everyone that Chiang Xiao was indeed his wife, and he said the consequences would be really serious if this wasn’t handled well. Just the night before, he had even received a phone call, insisting that he make another trip to explain everything clearly to Hu Xibing and Chiang Xiao.

Hu Xibing really didn’t know anything; he actually associated Chiang Xiao with the mission—this wasn’t good at all!

He hurriedly said, ”Actually, she is the captain’s wife! Otherwise, how could the captain possibly keep her by his side? It’s just that the sister-in-law is still young and doesn’t want to acknowledge her marriage to the captain! But she really is the captain’s wife, and my sister-in-law!”

Hu Xibing was utterly baffled.

That wasn’t what he heard that day, was it?

But when Chiang Xiao was brought in that day, the captain and Zhao Xin seemed to really know her.

Hu Xibing was also becoming uncertain.

”Really?”

”More real than pearls! Remember this, Brother Xi Bing, she is indeed the captain’s wife, and that’s what you should tell anyone who asks—this is an order from the captain himself!”

Left with no choice, Hu Xibing nodded and grumbled, ”But looking at Chiang Xiao, she doesn’t seem to have any feelings for Captain Meng at all. She’s still such a young girl, how can she be a wife?”

Zhao Xin actually really wanted to nod.

That’s right.

Such a young girl, how can she be a wife?

The first time he saw that young girl on Bai Gu Mountain, he commented how delicate she looked. The captain then misunderstood, thinking he wanted to take her as a wife and seriously told him she was too young to be a wife. Then, just a few days later, the young girl became the captain’s own wife.

Could he say the captain was too cunning?

”Xinzi, did you come all this way just to tell me this?” Hu Xibing patted his shoulder.

Zhao Xin shook his head, ”No, that’s not the main reason. I’m mainly here to see the sister-in-law, the captain asked me to deliver some things to her.” He patted the Supervisor Guard’s specialized backpack on his back, bulging with contents.

”Where’s the little sister-in-law staying?” Hu Xibing asked.

Zhao Xin chuckled twice, ”Now that, I can’t tell you. But, Brother Xi Bing, if the sister-in-law runs into any trouble, you’ve got to lend a hand.”

”You kid, you’re still keeping secrets. Fine, if you won’t tell me, I’ll ask her myself when I see her next time.”

Zhao Xin stood up. ”I’m going to make a phone call to the captain at the militia company. It’s getting late today, so I’ll have to spend the night here and look for the sister-in-law tomorrow.”

”Sure, go ahead. Tonight, I’ll show you a couple of my special dishes with plenty of meat for you to enjoy.”

Zhao Xin waved his hand and strode off to the militia company.

Nowadays, not everywhere has a telephone, but this village militia company had one installed, only because they knew in advance that the Chief Alliance Officer’s Wife was coming. The Chief Alliance Officer had someone install it beforehand, so they could be contacted in a timely manner if needed.

Fortunately, there was a telephone here, otherwise they would have been doomed this time.

Zhao Xin had met the village militia leader a couple of times, so when he came to make a call, of course the other party had no objections at all.

Capital City, Guard Squad Hospital.

When the nurse called Meng Xinian to the phone, he was leaning back on his bed, flipping through a newspaper.

His expression had been cold and detached these past two days, keeping everyone at a distance, but now, as he looked at the newspaper, his eyes were tender and there was a slight smile at the corner of his mouth.

The young nurse, trusting her woman’s intuition, believed that the newspaper must contain something that had touched his heart.

”Captain Meng, you have a phone call!”
