Moonfire Bride: The One they all betrayed...till she awakened

Cassian didn’t move.

Selene’s hand remained against his face while the silence between them stretched so long it became suffocating.

The candles continued to flicker wildly, throwing restless shadows across the walls until the room itself seemed unable to decide whether to remain standing or collapse.

His silver eyes never left hers.

”You think,” He finally said, his voice frighteningly calm, ”that because she’s a Rotblood, her life is worth less.”

Selene swallowed again, ”I think,” she answered carefully, ”that the world has already decided that for her.”

”And you merely helped it along.”

A muscle twitched in her jaw, ”I survived by adapting, by attacking first!”

”Leaving everyone in your bath bleeding,” Cassian sharpened, finishing for her.

Selene’s head remained held high, ”I don’t run away from the truth, so yes, many bled. Many more died,”

Cassian stared at her, and a certain look passed between them. That particular name was on the top of his tongue, to remind her that he knew what she had committed that night, to tell her that he knew her darkest secret.

But Selene was scared.

Because she was very positive he would never let anyone know about it.

”I didn’t come here for forgiveness.” She said, breaking the silence.

”I’m not the one who’s supposed to forgive you in the first place,” Cassian’s eyes narrowing, ”You came because you’re scared.”

”...Yes.” The admission made her hands clench again. She hated that Beatrice’s actions were getting to her.

”You finally found someone you can’t manipulate.”

”She doesn’t fear me,” Selene continued quietly. ”She doesn’t admire me. She doesn’t envy me. She simply...calculates me.”

”And that terrifies you.”

”It does...a little,”

Cassian slowly closed his eyes, ”I should let you drown,” he murmured.

Selene said nothing.

”I should walk away from this room and let every decision you’ve made finally catch up to you.”

Still...

Nothing.

”But if I do...” His eyes opened again, ”...Nightveil pays the price.”

That was the part neither of them could escape.

Selene’s secrets were no longer merely Selene’s.

They had become Nightveil’s.

If Eclipse Crown uncovered her involvement in everything surrounding Della...

If Malachi discovered Nightveil’s princess had manipulated the council, concealed evidence, and orchestrated half the tragedies that had unfolded...

There would be no diplomacy.

Only war.

And innocent wolves would die for sins they never committed.

Cassian hated that truth more than he hated anything else.

”You’ve cornered me,” he said bitterly.

”I know.”

”You made sure there wasn’t a right answer.”

”I know.”

”You’ve become your mother.”

Selene flinched from his words, being the last thing she had expected. Just because her mother had also manipulated her way into their father’s bed and took the position as Luna of the Pack back then...

Does that make her a villain, or an achiever? Selene preferred the latter.

Still, it scared her a little.

”Don’t talk about her,” Selene Warned.

”You hated when people compared you to her.”

”I said don’t.”

”You’ve become exactly what frightened you.”

Her breathing became uneven, and for several long seconds neither sibling spoke.

Then, after what seemed like the actual crackling of the air around them, particularly around Cassian himself, evidence that he was raging a war inside of him...something inside Cassian finally broke.

Not toward Selene.

Toward fate.

Toward the impossible position she’d forced him into.

Toward Della.

Toward Malachi.

Toward himself.

He laughed once. Humorlessly, ”Congratulations.” He uttered.

Selene looked up.

”You’ve managed to make me choose between saving innocent people...” His eyes grew empty ”...or saving the innocent girl you’ve spent weeks destroying.”

The room fell silent again.

”I’ll deal with Beatrice.” He added.

Selene’s shoulders visibly relaxed.

”But hear me carefully.”

She looked at him again.

”If you so much as breathe near Adelaide again...” The air around him seemed to freeze, ”I won’t protect you.”

Selene was scared, but her heart wasn’t moved. As deeply as Cassian was feeling right now, like he had been forced to do something he didn’t want to, she knew he would still choose her again.

Della would always have to be a second option.

Duty will always come before instinct and emotion!! If anything else came first, everything would crash to the ground.

”Thank you,” Selene simply said.

Looks like she had managed to convince him without having to take off her cloak.

Cassian didn’t answer.

He walked toward the window instead, looking out over the sleeping castle where torches burned along the walls like distant stars.

Tomorrow... Della would suffer.

And tonight, he had just chosen to help the very woman who had helped put her there.

He hated himself for it.

Behind him, Selene quietly smiled.

Then, she also walked up to the window casually, and they both stared down at it’s enterity.

Cassian subtly glanced at her face, so imperceptibly that Selene didn’t even notice she was being watched by the person right next to her, despite all her She-wolves’ senses on alert.

That was how careful Cassian was being.

That was how careful he’s always been, over the many years, whenever he secretly watched her. Whenever he felt his heart speeding up the longer he looked at her. Whenever he had denied whatever freaky emotion was building in his chest towards her.

His own sister.

Stepsister.

Does it matter?

SHIT!

And now...there was Della.

He really had a fucked up brain!!

He quickly tore his eyes off her before his brain wandered further down her face and fell on her cloak. He didn’t want to think about the fact that she was wearing almost nothing under that dark cloak, and he had already sniffed her arousal from the moment she had started to soak herself.

No

No

Deny it.

You don’t care!

Not about her!

She’s your fucking sister!

And oh! He could still smell her pussy on his fingers. Every time he closed his eyes, he saw himself back in that room and her up against him and the wall, crying out his name.

And now she was here, in his room, thinking she could keep squeezing her thighs together and go unnoticed.

God, Cassian.

You’re so, so fucked up!

He opened his mouth to say something — to ask her to leave.

Before he lost another battle and broke his promise and sunk more fingers inside her.

But she beat him into breaking the tense silence.

”Alpha,”

He finally looked at her properly.

She hadn’t taken her eyes off the window.

”I...,” She sounded nervous, ”I didn’t just come here tonight...to ask for a favour,”

Is she...?!

She finally looked at him, her eyes filled with nothing but heavy, hooded desire that clouded everything else. That made her brown eyes so big and dark that they seemed to turn coffee brown, radiating enough feminine energy to make him want to wrap a hand around her throat, push four fingers up her flooded pussy...and make her cum on his fingers again.

”What is it, this time?” He asked, his eyes still apathetic.

She shook out a breath.

And squeezed her legs again.

If she did that one more time, he was going to snap.
