139: Chapter 139 The Four Heavenly Kings Fu HaoAfter logging into the otherworld, Philip uncharacteristically did not open the community and instead went straight to handling the Demon King’s daily affairs.

While interacting in the community had its unique charms, he did not want to make ”engaging in tongue-lashing contests with those who praise Fu Hao” a regular hobby—he intended to seal the community access button until the day Fu Hao fell into misfortune again.

”Where are the potions?”

Having finished all his tasks, Philip asked Narusha, who served as both one of the Four Heavenly Kings and his secretary, about the whereabouts of the potions. According to the potion supply system Philip had designed himself, the potions collected by the demons from monsters like miners should have been delivered to the front of the Demon King Castle before he logged in.

Even though there was no war in the Demon Realm and the territory was not without variables, the potions had never been delayed since the potion system was perfected.

Philip had a habit of saving his favorite side dish for last, and perhaps for this reason, he placed the acquisition and use of potions at the very end of all his tasks—it was not until he had been logged in for over an hour that he realized the pile of potions that should have been filling the hall was nowhere to be found.

In fact, the daily harvest of potions was usually large enough to fill a corner of the hall, so the fact that he only noticed the anomaly now was a miracle in itself.

Perhaps it was the recent news of Fu Hao’s comeback that had unsettled him, causing him to be absent-minded. Faced with Philip’s questioning, Narusha answered a beat late, her eyes carrying a look of surprise: ”You only just noticed now? Because the quantity was so large, they were temporarily stored in the empty slots of the treasure warehouse.”

”There are that many?”

Philip exclaimed upon hearing this. Although he was the weakest among the Demon Kings, the scale of the Demon King Castle was by no means humble—the area in front of the hall alone exceeded that of the Rowen Kingdom capital before Fu Hao destroyed it. Yet now, the pile of potions was too large to be accommodated, and even by the lowest estimate, it was more than double the usual daily output.

With an expression of disbelief, Philip walked straight to the treasure warehouse beneath the Demon King Castle. Only when he collected all the potions piled up in the warehouse into his inventory did he truly accept the fact that the potion production had skyrocketed.

Perhaps his expectations for the description of ”filling the hall” had been too high; while the actual quantity did not match the magnified imagination he had on the way there, its ”quality” far exceeded his expectations.

The experience potions harvested daily were usually of the lowest and lower grades, but this time, contrary to the norm, intermediate potions made up the majority. ”What is going on? Did you discover a new hunting ground?”

The joy of discovering a new hunting ground should belong to the discoverer, but as the lord ruling this land, he had the right to enjoy the results—after all, except for special event hunting grounds, the monsters in most hunting grounds respawned on time, making them eternal resource points.

After becoming a Demon King, Philip deeply realized the importance of hunting ground ownership.

In the past, when he was a baron, he didn’t even have time to explore new hunting grounds, and even if he found one, it was of little significance due to the lack of rare bosses. But now, as a Demon King, monsters in the Demon Realm were essentially experience potions. The discovery of a new high-level hunting ground was equivalent to finding an inexhaustible gold mine, a vein that could continuously produce the core resource of ”attributes.”

As if she understood Philip’s mutterings, Narusha presented the investigation results before he could even ask: ”Most of the intermediate potions were collected by a demon named ’Hao Fu,’ who belongs to the latest batch of new demons. His output was similar to other demons in the past few days, but today he suddenly brought back a large number of intermediate potions and above. He is currently waiting in the VIP room. Shall I summon him to the hall?”

Seeing that Narusha had investigated the information in advance and conveyed it accurately, even anticipating his intent, Philip nodded in approval: ”I certainly didn’t choose the wrong Four Heavenly Kings.” Although Narusha’s combat ability was mediocre, she was gifted in territory management and secretarial tasks—he had doubts when he first appointed her, but now she was the Four Heavenly King who satisfied Philip the most.

It is worth mentioning that ”Four Heavenly Kings” was not a naming convention born from Philip’s chuunibyou phase, but a hidden mechanism exclusive to Demon Kings, similar to a medal system, where only four individuals could be selected from among subordinates to significantly strengthen their attributes and trait values.

”However, to collect so many potions with just one person...”

Even if a high-level hunting ground was truly discovered, it was almost impossible to collect such a quantity by personal strength alone. Philip firmly believed that this NPC named ”Hao Fu” must be hiding a major secret. As he walked and pondered, he soon gave up on guessing—as a Demon King, the other party was ultimately a demon under his rule, and rather than wasting energy speculating, it was better to just ask directly.

But Philip’s expectations fell through—this demon named ”Hao Fu,” when faced with the Demon King, showed no submissiveness, but instead righteously demanded his rights: ”I request a reward for offering the potions.”

Philip, who was seeing a demon demand a reward to his face for the first time, was momentarily speechless, and finally opened the ruling system to check Hao Fu’s information: ”...The ability values are unremarkable.” The demon, copied by Fu Hao through mysterious items, was originally a product of the Envy Demon King Pablo forcibly demonizing humans.

Considering that Pablo, as a high-ranking Demon King, could not fully exert his power in the human world, and that he created demons from humans in a rush, it was normal for the ability values to be average. Fortunately, the foundation of a former royal knight meant he was not ”below mediocre.”

Having gained no new clues from the information panel, Philip had to speak with Hao Fu: ”Speak, what do you want?” Although his tone was perfunctory, both sides knew it well—there was only one reward Philip could give: the position of one of the Four Heavenly Kings.

For a demon NPC, the status of the Four Heavenly Kings was second only to the Demon King, and Philip was using exactly this point, using the position of one of the Four Heavenly Kings as bait for collecting potions.

”I want the position of one of the Four Heavenly Kings.”

Sure enough, Hao Fu directly pointed out his request. ”If you tell me the source of the potions, I will immediately appoint you as one of the Four Heavenly Kings—but this won’t be the last time, will it?” Philip swallowed hard, remaining composed. As long as he knew the secret to continuously obtaining high-level potions, he would not hesitate even if he had to give up all four seats of the Four Heavenly Kings at once.

But things did not go as smoothly as imagined. ”Haha, Your Majesty the Demon King, you are joking. If I told you, I am afraid you would no longer need me.” ”...That makes sense.”

Philip knew well that he had to grant the position of one of the Four Heavenly Kings to the other party, yet he still made a final struggle—was it really okay to hand over the position of one of the Four Heavenly Kings to this demon of unknown identity?

When trading with NPCs, signing a ”Blood Contract” was the safest, but unfortunately, this item was completely ineffective against demons. Without a real scale like Fu Hao had, Philip could only bet on his intuition.

”Although it’s a bit suspicious...” This was like a pie falling from the sky, making one worry if it would cause an upset stomach—didn’t Fu Hao stumble precisely because he trusted a super-tier Summoned Beast too lightly?

Philip’s worry was simple: the Four Heavenly Kings had the right to challenge their direct Demon King at any time. There were two ways for a demon to become a Demon King: first, to obtain the position of one of the Four Heavenly Kings and then challenge the direct Demon King; second, to climb the ranks according to the Demon Realm’s noble system and eventually challenge the lowest-ranked Demon King.

Philip became a Demon King precisely through the latter, but the possibility of the former always existed; the position of one of the Four Heavenly Kings was a double-edged sword.

However, no matter how conflicted he was, he had no choice—who would give up the mountain of intermediate potions every day for a hint of doubt? ”As long as we continue to collect like this, it is not a pipe dream to reach the top of the Demon King rankings and start the Human-Demon War within half a year.”

Philip chose to believe in the strength he had built up along the way, and to believe in the attributes built up by hidden mechanisms and potion piles—even if Hao Fu intended to challenge him, he was confident he could handle it.

”After all, Fu Hao only got into trouble because he left his territory to go to the Elf Kingdom. If I stay in my own territory, what could possibly happen?”

He comforted himself with this thought and clicked the confirm button to appoint the Four Heavenly King.
