124: Chapter 124 The Dragon’s Slave”Dragons Fear?!”

”Dragon!”

Upon seeing the notification, Fu Hao and Yongyuan cried out in alarm almost simultaneously. Using a skill called ”Dragons Fear” didn’t necessarily mean it had anything to do with a dragon—it could just be the name of some status effect skill.

However, the scene before them instantly crushed that sliver of hope: Mei’s petite human body was being torn, inflated, and reshaped by an invisible, immense force!

Her skin cracked inch by inch, covered by scales as cold and hard as metal; her petite limbs twisted and elongated, transforming into thick claws covered in jagged bone spurs; her slender neck shot out, and a ferocious dragon head, burning with an inhuman will, burst through her skin and reared toward the sky!

Immediately following, a new system notification struck them like ironclad proof:

[First sighting of a member of the Dragon race among players.]

[Obtained title ’Dragon Discoverer’.]

[You may report this achievement to the Monster Research Association to receive rewards based on the difficulty of the achievement.]

[Accepted quest ’Secrets of the Dragon Race’.]

[Established a hostile relationship with a Super-Tier Existence.]

[Obtained title ’Balance Breaker’.]

A Super-Tier Existence! This colossal behemoth before them was a living, breathing dragon!

Its size was so immense that its mere crouching posture completely swallowed the shadows of the crude stone houses nearby; with just a light stomp, it could flatten the entire area.

”What the hell?! A dragon... how could a dragon appear in a place like this?!” Fu Hao’s voice was hoarse from extreme shock.

Dragons, those legendary creatures that appear in countless fantasy tales and games, remained merely a vague concept—or even a distant legend—to the vast majority of players in otherworld.

Except for Fu Hao and his core audience (thanks to the existence of his Summoned Beast ”Little Gold”), ordinary players knew very little about them.

And Little Gold was merely a dragon hatchling! At this moment, it was the first time for both of them to face a true, adult dragon emanating terrifying pressure!

Under normal circumstances, encountering a dragon might be seen as a heaven-sent opportunity—it could provide the most intuitive reference for Little Gold’s future evolution, and perhaps... one could even attempt to use certain special skills to tame this powerful wild existence.

But right now, this encounter was absolutely terrible, tricky to the extreme!

If the dragon were merely hostile, they could still maneuver or flee. But the goal of the dragon before them was naked and clear: to turn them, along with the other elves, into slaves! Once branded with the mark of a slave, Fu Hao would forever lose the freedom and possibility of stopping the World Tree’s rampage.

In other games, becoming a dragon’s slave might just be a temporary plot event. But in otherworld, high freedom meant: deviating from the conventional path could yield hidden treasures, or it could plunge one into an abyss of no return—just like how Yongyuan was reborn as an elf, only to be imprisoned in the Elf Kingdom for nearly a year. Becoming a dragon’s slave and living years or even decades of life in darkness was by no means impossible!

”This is truly... bad luck knocking on the door of bad luck—it’s the height of misfortune!”

Having come to resolve a crisis caused by one Super-Tier Existence (the World Tree), they had run into another Super-Tier disaster (a dragon) halfway there!

He even began to wonder if he was being tightly bound by some invisible curse of misfortune. However, Yongyuan’s sense of despair was ten, a hundred times more intense than his!

”Ahhh—?! This is impossible! It’s a dream! This must be a nightmare!” People, in their deepest despair, are often dragged back into eternal darkness just after seeing a glimmer of hope.

Yongyuan had just ignited the hope of being able to guard Leonhardt day and night, but the five words ”Dragon’s Slave” acted like the most vicious curse, instantly pulling her back to those long and oppressive years trapped in the Elf Kingdom; a massive panic submerged her completely like a tidal wave.

But her cries and despair could not move Mei’s cold heart in the slightest. ”What an interesting elf, your magic purity is very high... I like it.”

Mei, in her dragon form, spoke with a voice as deep as rolling thunder, ”All of you slaves, listen to me! From now on, if any elves set foot in Mondo, report it to me immediately! Do you hear me?”

”Yes! Lady Mei!” All the non-human races who witnessed this scene were already trembling like chaff, and at this moment, they used all their strength to scream their response, their voices filled with fear.

Having confirmed the loyalty of the slaves, Mei did not delay any further.

A massive dragon claw reached out casually, as if picking up two tiny insects, and firmly grabbed Fu Hao and Yongyuan, who were unable to move due to ”Dragons Fear,” holding them at the edge of its giant maw before violently flapping its wings!

Violent air currents instantly tore through the air, and the massive dragon body turned into a shadow ripping through the sky, its speed far exceeding that of Fu Hao’s +10 reinforced flying artifact!

”The sea? ...Is she going to a lair on an island?!” Mei flew straight toward the depths of the boundless ocean. Sure enough, her destination was a massive, desolate island standing in the sea—this island had clearly been claimed by her as her lair.

”If only I had detected her true form sooner...” Fu Hao felt deep regret in his heart. But he immediately forced down this useless emotion—even if they had successfully resisted ”Dragons Fear” at that time, with the terrifying power and speed Mei displayed, where could they have escaped to? Their situation might not have been any better than it was now.

More importantly, Mei seemed to have turned all the elves in Mondo into her slaves! If Fu Hao wanted to obtain the elves’ assistance, he could not avoid a confrontation with this dragon, no matter what!

From this perspective, being caught directly by the dragon and thrown into the elven prison, could actually... be considered a ”shortcut”? At least it saved the trouble of searching and sneaking in.

’No matter how strong this dragon is, it can’t do anything about a game-breaking item like the ”teleportation gem”!’ This thought was like a spark in the darkness, supporting Fu Hao’s will. He made up his mind: as soon as he obtained the promise of assistance from the elves, he would immediately activate the teleportation gem and take everyone to escape this den of tigers and wolves!

After flying at high speed over the sea for about twenty minutes, Mei’s massive lair, located on a cliff on the desolate island, finally came into view.

Fu Hao was usually almost immune to the dizziness of virtual reality, but the dragon’s flight speed was comparable to a supersonic fighter jet in reality!

Held at the edge of the giant maw, his vision spun crazily like an out-of-control kaleidoscope, violent air currents pounded his body like invisible heavy hammers, and intense dizziness and nausea assaulted his senses. Yongyuan, beside him, was already vomiting uncontrollably, her face as pale as paper.

”Lock these two new elves up with the others.” Upon arriving at the lair, Mei casually threw them to the ground and ordered the magical golems that came to greet her.

These golems looked slightly different from those made by Loki, with rougher and more ferocious lines, but they were clearly just as capable of understanding and executing orders.

’Dragons use magical golems too? Shouldn’t they use trolls or dragon-kin servants?’ This thought flashed through Fu Hao’s mind. ’Perhaps... times have changed, and even dragons are undergoing technological upgrades?’

Being rudely dragged by the cold magical golems through a dim corridor reeking of sulfur and beasts, and finally pushed into a massive stone cave prison dimly lit by some kind of glowing ore, Fu Hao finally let out a sigh of relief, feeling that his hanging heart had fallen back halfway:

”Thank goodness! We’re locked up with the elves!” If they had been imprisoned alone, it would have truly been a situation where heaven didn’t answer and the earth didn’t respond. Now, he only needed to wait patiently for the effect of ”Dragons Fear” to end, and he could take out the teleportation gem and disappear with everyone in an instant!

The elves imprisoned in the cell were all gaunt, their eyes filled with numbness and exhaustion, their clothes tattered and stained; they had clearly suffered inhuman torture.

Fu Hao believed that by offering to lead them out of this hell as a condition for requesting their assistance to stop the World Tree’s rampage, even if it meant helping humans, these despairing elves would have no reason to refuse—in a sense, the appearance of this dragon had actually... simplified the negotiation process?

”Pull yourself together! Yongyuan! Don’t you want to see Leonhardt anymore?!” Fu Hao forcefully suppressed the nausea caused by the dizziness and shook the limp, glassy-eyed Yongyuan with all his might.

”Woo... ah, sorry, it’s... too uncomfortable...” Yongyuan replied weakly.

”There’s no time to be uncomfortable! Hurry and persuade them!” Fu Hao spoke at an extremely fast pace, pointing to the surrounding elves, ”Tell them that we are requesting their assistance to stop the World Tree’s rampage on the condition that we lead everyone out of here! Hurry! The effect of ”Dragons Fear” will wear off in the last 5 minutes!”

”Understood! Leave it to me!” Hearing the word ”escape,” the fear and regret in Yongyuan’s eyes born from the shadow of slavery were instantly dispelled, and her will to survive and protect Leonhardt was reignited!

She struggled to stand up, turned to her bewildered fellow elves, and quickly and clearly stated their purpose.

”The World Tree? Do you mean... the King of Elements? The King of Elements was... planted in the human realm?!” The leading Elf Elder’s voice trembled, filled with disbelief.

”Yes! We need your assistance to stop its rampage!” Yongyuan said decisively, ”As long as you agree to assist, we will take all of you away from here right now! The teleportation gem is very safe; we can leave in an instant!”

”But... but...” A look of immense confusion and pain appeared on the Elf Elder’s face, ”We... we don’t know how to stop the World Tree either! Secrets that even His Majesty the Elf King might not know, how would we, these exiles... know?”

”You don’t need to worry about the method!” Fu Hao immediately interjected, his tone unquestionable, ”We just need to gather 100 elves! Are there enough elves here?”

”Ye... yes, but...” The Elf Elder looked around, his voice choked with sobs.

”That’s good!” Yongyuan immediately followed up, her voice carrying an inspiring power, ”Everyone, prepare immediately! We are leaving right now!”

The Elf King’s seal in her hand, along with that unquestionable confidence, instantly ignited the fire of hope that had long since extinguished in the eyes of the elves! The authority of the Elf King’s token became the only straw to clutch at in their despair at this moment!

Just as Yongyuan finished persuading them—

[”Dragons Fear” status removed.]

Control of his body returned instantly! Fu Hao did not hesitate in the slightest, pulling the teleportation gem (+10) from his backpack! Teleporting over one hundred people required a chanting time of over 5 seconds; he injected mana into the gem’s core with unimaginable speed, his heart filled with only one crazy prayer: ”Don’t come! Don’t be discovered! Don’t...”

Thank goodness! During those few critical seconds while the gem’s light brightened and spatial ripples began to undulate, the heavy stone door of the cell remained tightly shut, and no dragon roar or the sound of approaching magical golems came from outside!

The gem’s light grew brighter and brighter, the ripples of spatial distortion were clearly visible, and Fu Hao could almost feel the familiar Teleportation pulling force about to descend—

Hum! The light suddenly distorted and extinguished! A line of scarlet, glaring system notifications popped up before Fu Hao’s eyes:

[’teleportation gem (+10)’ activation failed.]
