Who Let Him Play Yugioh? (Re-Upload)

”Green Baboon, Defender of the Forest, summon!”

A swirling vortex of starlight burst open with tangled vines. Accompanied by a deafening roar, Green Baboon, Defender of the Forest broke through the moss-covered barrier. Glowing spores shook loose from its emerald fur with every step, causing thorny vines to bloom across the ground.

Dragan: ”Using a lower monster’s self-destruction to quickly summon a powerful higher-level Beast? Not a bad choice, but power of this level isn’t enough to be called a worthy opponent for a god.”

”Well, just watch.”

Kira smiled and waved his hand.

”Go, ’Green Baboon, Defender of the Forest’! Attack ’Tanngrisnir of the Nordic Beasts’!”

The fluffy green baboon let out a fierce roar, pounded its chest with both fists, and instantly charged forward. Its sandbag-sized fist slammed straight toward the goat-like Nordic Beasts’s head.

”I’ve been waiting for this!” Dragan declared. ”I activate my face-down Trap Card, ’Nordic Relic Brisingamen’!

Select one face-up monster on each player’s field. Until the end of this turn, the ATK of the monster on your field becomes equal to the original ATK of the monster on the opponent’s field!”

The moment the green baboon leaped, Dragan’s trap flipped over. A crimson fire serpent burst from the card and wrapped around the attacked goat. Within the blazing flames, the fire tongues twisted and shaped themselves into a mirror image of the green baboon.

Every hair on the flaming baboon was made of flickering flames, and its originally emerald eyes turned into molten orange-red. The two giant beasts faced off across a wall of fire. The flaming replica left scorched claw marks with every step, and the high temperature distorted the air between them into rippling mirages.

”Oh? This trap,” Kira said, understanding.

[Tanngrisnir of the Nordic Beasts, ATK 1200 → ATK 2600]

”Not only that!” Dragan shouted. ”If the monster affected by ’Nordic Relic Brisingamen’ destroys an opponent’s monster by battle, it inflicts damage to the opponent equal to the destroyed monster’s ATK!”

The spectator stands stirred with commotion. The spiky-haired commentator added: ”Ohhh, what a powerful counter! Not only does it counter the opponent’s monster, but if successful, it will directly inflict 2600 damage equal to the Green Baboon’s ATK! That would leave Kira with only 400 Life Points!

As expected of Team Ragnarok. Could their first duelist, Dragan, already be enough to defeat Kira, who has continuously created the miracle of piercing through three opponents?”

Kira: ”Then I activate the Quick-Play Spell ’Rush Recklessly’ from my hand. Increase the ATK of one monster on the field by 700 until the end of the turn.”

Dragan frowned. ”What?”

”The Green Baboon’s ATK increases by another 700.”

Empowered by the boost, the green baboon let out a wild roar and swung its palm. The flaming illusion was instantly shattered and scattered into sparks.

[Dragan, LP 4000 → LP 3300]

”You actually kept up with my trap and countered it. Not bad,” Dragan said. ”But the duel is still proceeding at my pace!

Tanngrisnir of the Nordic Beasts’s effect activates! If this card is destroyed by battle and sent to the Graveyard, Special Summon two ’Nordic Beast Tokens’ to your field!”

The destroyed goat didn’t fully disappear. The remaining wool on its body turned into two fluffy cotton balls that reshaped into two tokens on the field.

It was clearly preparation for summoning the Lord of the Aesir.

Kira smiled slightly, unconcerned, and waved his hand gently.

”I set two cards face-down. My turn ends.”

After finishing his actions, he looked up and smiled. ”It’s about time to bring out the god, right?”

”Oh? You’re aware of that and still so calm,” Dragan laughed.

Kira replied, ”Of course. I’m also looking forward to seeing the brilliance of the so-called Nordic Lord of the Aesir with my own eyes. Isn’t it natural for a duelist to want to witness legendary powerful monsters?”

Dragan laughed heartily. ”Alright, as you wish.

My turn. Draw!”

”First, I activate the Spell Card ’Card Destruction’. Both players discard their entire hands, then draw the same number of cards from their Deck.”

After the hand refresh and drawing new cards, a sharp glint flashed in Dragan’s eyes. One of them displayed an ancient rune—the Rune Eye had activated.

His teammates outside the field also sensed the power Dragan unleashed. Halldor smiled. ”That guy Dragan... looks like he drew it. The god will probably descend this turn.”

”Here it comes!” Dragan declared. ”I summon the Tuner monster ’Guldfaxe of the Nordic Beasts’!”

What appeared was the golden divine horse from Norse mythology, but it was pitch-black all over, with only its tail and mane in golden yellow. It was the mount of Magni, son of Thor in the myths.

[Guldfaxe of the Nordic Beasts, ATK 1600]

”Level 4 Tuner monster ’Guldfaxe of the Nordic Beasts’! Two Level 3 ’Nordic Beast Tokens’! Tuning!”

[4 + 3 + 3 = 10]

”When the gate to the starry realm opens, the ancient war god shall raise his magic hammer. Appear amidst the thunderous roar that shakes the earth! Synchro Summon! Descend, Thor, Lord of the Aesir!”

Outside the speeding track, the sea wall parted like a crystal curtain being lifted by an invisible hand. The seawater split into two halves, just like the Red Sea before Moses in myth. What was revealed at the bottom was not mud or sand, but a starry dome flowing with rune patterns. A synchro light pillar entwined with ancient frost burst through the sea toward the sky, tearing the night clouds into a ring-shaped thunder vortex.

The first thing to pierce the light curtain was the legendary divine hammer, Mjolnir, the Thunder God’s hammer. The massive hammerhead emitted blue-white plasma that left scorched trails in the air. Thor’s eyes opened hundreds of meters high in the sky. Liquid lightning flowed across his bronze-colored muscles, and his cloak billowed like dark clouds, blotting out the sun.

God Descent!

Unlike in reality, where the three Lord of the Aesir had been nerfed, with weakened effects and changed to LIGHT Fairy-Type (losing all their godly grandeur), the original anime version featured true Divine-Beast Type with Divine attribute—the same treatment as the three Egyptian God Cards.

The real divine might and awe descended upon all the spectators and the commentator at once, nearly suffocating them. Even the professional spiky-haired commentator began to stutter: ”I-it’s here! This is the god held by Team Ragnarok! What terrifying presence... is this thing really still a monster?”

”Of course it’s not a monster. It’s a god!” Dragan declared with immense pride.

”Now, face my god in battle, Fujiki Kira!”
