”XYZ-Dragon Cannon, summon!”

Off to the side, Seika’s eyes sparkled as she watched.

Thinking back, she realized that although she’d taken a heavy beating earlier, and was quite angry afterward, during the entire duel the only monster her opponent summoned was that 800 ATK Submarineroid. The only eight-star monster that appeared was on her field.

She hadn’t run into a monster with such overwhelming suppression as now.

Could it be Kira wasn’t even trying earlier?

”XYZ-Dragon Cannon, activate effect!” Kira declared, ”Discard one card from my hand to destroy one card on your field!”

He sent a card to the graveyard.

”I discard a card to destroy the set ’Cyber Prima’!”

Ammunition loaded, energy charged, target locked—the Dragon Cannon’s barrels erupted with dazzling fire!

The students held their breath. Once again, it was a decisive turn. The set Cyber Prima was Alexis’ only defense. If her field was wiped here, the Dragon Cannon could attack directly for the game!

”Not so fast.” Alexis snapped, ”I activate my set card! Trap Card—Angel Blast! When your spell, trap, or monster effect would destroy a monster on the field, that effect is negated and destroyed!” (Anime card)

Alexis smiled subtly.

He fell for it.

This trap would turn her desperate situation into a comeback. If he lost the Dragon Cannon here, the next turn the field would be empty.

This trap card would create the opening she needed to counterattack!

”Then, I chain my set card,” Kira calmly flipped his last back row, ”Continuous Trap— Hyper Coat!”

”Once activated, this card becomes an Equip Card for any ’VWXYZ’ series monster. The equipped monster gains 500 ATK and is unaffected by your opponent’s spells, traps, or monster effects!” (Anime card)

It was a unique VWXYZ equip card used by Chazz in the anime, granting total immunity.

Of course, you could still remove it by battle, or by removing the equip card first.

[XYZ-Dragon Cannon, ATK 2800 → ATK 3300]

Alexis: ”!”

In the crowd, Syrus gasped, ”It’s stronger than Blue-Eyes White Dragon, with godlike immunity!”

”Therefore, Dragon Cannon’s effect continues,” Kira said, ”The set ’Cyber Prima’ is destroyed!”

The cannon’s fire continued, shattering the set card and removing the monster.

”Also, the card I discarded was the spell ’Card of Compensation’. If discarded from the hand, I draw two cards from the deck,” Kira explained.

Alexis gritted her teeth.

Her reversal card, her comeback ace, was neutralized yet again.

”Then I activate the trap ’Waboku’,” Alexis said, ”This turn my monsters can’t be destroyed by battle, and I take no battle damage.”

Waboku can’t protect from monster effects, so it couldn’t save Cyber Prima from the Cannon’s fire. But it could buy her one more turn.

”I set two cards and end my turn.”

Having survived another turn, Alexis took a deep breath and clenched her fist.

She couldn’t let her opponent control the tempo.

During the entrance exam, when she saw Kira duel, she sensed he was different from the others.

At first glance, his tactics seemed opportunistic, avoiding confrontation. But she could tell there was more to it.

Now, having dueled him herself, she was sure.

He wasn’t just good at tricks; he used them because he liked that style, disrupting his opponent’s plays and throwing them off balance.

But that didn’t mean he wasn’t skilled in other strategies.

As a duelist, he was infuriating, but also very strong.

She couldn’t let him throw her off—she had to maintain her momentum.

”My turn. Draw!” Alexis declared firmly.

Seeing the fighting spirit still burning in Alexis’s eyes, Seika’s gaze flickered: ”Only 200 LP left, and her field is empty.

Her opponent controls a monster with overwhelming power, capable of destroying any card, and with absolute immunity to effects.”

At this point, the gap was too great.

It was a loss, wasn’t it?

It was just a casual duel, not a tournament or exam. Besides, Alexis had said she’d withdraw from the Miss Duel Academy election even if she won.

If it were her on the field, Seika thought, she’d have mentally collapsed by now. There’d be no point in continuing.

”So why is she still holding on?”

Alexis drew her card and said resolutely, ”I came to Duel Academy because I love dueling.

I never cared about being Miss Duel Academy. I just want to be recognized as a duelist—nothing more.”

Hearing this, Seika’s feelings changed a bit toward her kouhai.

Alexis: ”I activate the spell ’Spell Books from the Pot’! Both players draw three cards from their decks!” (Manga card)

This card, from the GX manga, is a crazy draw engine, but it also gives your opponent three cards.

Kira, of course, took the free draw as well.

”You’re strong, Kira. Maybe I can’t beat you, but as a duelist, I can’t give up!”

Alexis declared.

”I activate the field spell ’Ritual Sanctuary’!”

The scene changed with a roar; a grand church rose and rose petals drifted in the holy white light.

”Ritual Sanctuary effect! Discard a spell from your hand to add a LIGHT Ritual Monster or Ritual Spell from deck to hand.”

Alexis discarded a card and searched her deck.

”I add the Ritual Monster ’Cyber Angel Benten’ to my hand!”

Kira raised an eyebrow.

Here it comes—Cyber Angels.

Cyber Angels was Alexis’ ritual deck in GX but only became real cards a decade later. They were very strong for their time.

The real-life Cyber Angels were even stronger, with new cards and effects not in the anime, making them one of the rare archetypes stronger in real life than in the anime.

Even original versions were strong in this environment.

”The real duel starts now!” Alexis declared, ”Watch, Kira! This is my full strength!”
