Who Let Him Play Yugioh? (Re-Upload)

Sartyr concisely explained Ra Yellow’s welcome event: a dorm-wide internal exchange tournament.

In this world, dueling is more than just winning or losing—it’s a way for duelists to connect, their souls clashing. Sartyr believed dueling was a better way for everyone to get to know each other than boring self-introductions.

The freshman list was already in Sartyr’s hands, and he’d arranged the matchups.

”The matches will take place over the first two weeks. With so many students, not everyone will duel, and you don’t have to win every time. But as a special incentive—”

Sartyr smiled mysteriously and waved his hand.

”Each win in this exchange duel will earn you an extra credit outside of your regular coursework!”

The students’ eyes lit up instantly.

Everyone knew that Duel Academy credits weren’t just for academics—they could be exchanged for Dp points, usable for all sorts of purchases on campus, including food and cards.

As expected of Duel Academy—the very first day was all about dueling.

No wonder everyone was eager to win.

Of course, even with duels, you couldn’t skip dinner. Sartyr himself joined the kitchen staff and prepared a variety of dishes.

Including (but not limited to): curry beef, curry chicken, curry fish, curry tofu…

The students: ”…”

The food was tasty, but they could feel Sartyr’s deep, almost obsessive love for curry.

After dinner, before the gathering dispersed, a thick-browed Ra Yellow freshman blocked Kira’s path.

”Fujiki Kira?”

Kira paused and looked him up and down.

”Yamamoto Yuichi?” Kira guessed.

That was the name matched to him in the dorm’s first-round dueling list.

”That’s right.”

The boy grinned.

”You’re the top freshman, right? I’m number five. I didn’t do great on the written test because I stayed up too late, but in actual dueling, I’m number one.”

He raised his arm, showing the duel disk strapped on.

”Since we’re matched up, I’m happy to face the best first. How about a post-dinner duel?”

”Sure,” Kira replied, dusting himself off. ”Might as well get it over with.”

The dinner had just ended, so all the freshmen were still around. Soon, people noticed the duel challenge.

”Already? That’s fast!”

”Isn’t that the top and fifth-ranked students? It’s a clash of the aces right out of the gate!”

Students crowded around the open area outside the dorm.

”Did you see the top-ranked guy’s entrance exam duel?”

”No, was it special?”

”It’s not just special, it’s… hard to describe. You’ll see.”

Misawa Bastion silently crossed his arms, watching Kira.

He’d watched Kira’s entrance duel, and after seeing him beat the legendary Rex Raptor, he was deeply interested.

”So, this is the number one’s duel…” Misawa mused, ”Let’s see what he can do.”

”...”

”Duel!” x2

[Kira, LP 4000]

[Yuichi, LP 4000]

”I’ll go first. Draw!”

Yamamoto Yuichi took the first move.

”I summon ’Infernal Dragon’ in attack mode!”

A majestic black dragon appeared on his field, its tail whipping as it roared.

[Infernal Dragon, ATK 2000]

The onlookers, like typical GX extras, gasped: ”A monster with 2000 attack right off the bat!”

”Then I set two cards and end my turn,” he said, confident in his opening.

A Level 4 monster with 2000 ATK was rare, and he’d set a powerful trap (”Bottomless Trap Hole”), which would destroy and banish any monster summoned with over 1500 ATK.

This opening was enough to dominate most students.

”My turn, draw.” Kira drew. ”Spell card, ’Graceful Charity’—draw three, discard two.”

He took the chance to test a new build he’d bought from the school store.

”Activate field spell, ’Megaroid City!’”

The card slotted in with a click, and the field transformed—overpasses rose up, covering the whole area.

”Roids?” Yuichi smirked. ”That’s a pretty normal deck.”

”Normal summon, ’Mixeroid,’ in defense position.”

A humanoid cement mixer truck appeared, fists whirling, the drum spinning, its headlights big and cute.

[Mixeroid, DEF 2200]

Yuichi frowned.

With 2200 DEF and 0 ATK, ”Bottomless Trap Hole” couldn’t trigger.

”Mixeroid’s effect: tribute a Machine monster to special summon a non-Wind ’roid’ from the deck.

Mixeroid is a Machine, so I tribute it!”

The cement mixer spun, creating a green vortex that consumed it in golden light.

”Special summon from the deck—

—Submarineroid!”

[Submarineroid, ATK 800]

Yuichi glanced at his back row. Only 800 ATK—still couldn’t trigger his trap.

”Tch, what’s the point of summoning such a weak monster?”

He hadn’t realized the danger yet.

”Battle! Submarineroid attacks directly!”

Yuichi was shocked: ”A direct attack?”

”Submarineroid can attack directly!”

”Hmph, but it’s only 800 damage.”

”At this moment, ’Megaroid City’s’ effect activates! When a ’roid’ monster battles, I can send a ’roid’ from my deck to the graveyard. That monster’s original ATK and DEF swap for this battle!”

”What!?” Yuichi’s face changed.

Swap ATK and DEF—that meant—

”I send ’Kiteroid’ from my deck to the graveyard, swapping Submarineroid’s ATK and DEF!”

[Submarineroid, ATK 800 → 1800]

”Urgh, 1800 ATK…”

The little submarine fired a torpedo, the blast knocking Yuichi back with a simulated shock.

[Yuichi, LP 4000 → 2200]

”Not bad,” Yuichi grunted.

”’Submarineroid’ can change to defense after battling.

And when ’Megaroid City’s’ effect ends, its DEF returns to normal.”

The sub retreated, turning its back to defend.

[Submarineroid, DEF 1800]

”Then I set three cards and end my turn.”
