The Sea Queen of 1985

Chapter 446: Chapter 446: Besieged and Plundered

Han Xiaorui was under a lot of pressure, surrounded by so many people.

Someone said, ”Comrade Han, two hundred police dogs are far too few. Our country is so large, with so many police departments. Two hundred is nothing—even two thousand, or twenty thousand, wouldn’t be enough.”

Han Xiaorui was left speechless by that single sentence. ”Training police dogs this way isn’t something you can do with just any dog. We put an incredible amount of effort into the process.”

”Isn’t that all the more reason to increase the number? The assessment scores for these dogs are head and shoulders above the rest. They’re a rare find,” someone else asked.

Han Xiaorui shook her head. ”We might increase the number later on, but not by much. We simply don’t have the capacity. We can’t suddenly ramp up production, so I ask for your understanding.”

’Where is Director Wang?’

Just as Han Xiaorui was wondering how to handle these enthusiastic police officers, Director Wang finally arrived and ”rescued” her.

”My child is still young, so I need to head home. Director Wang, I’ll leave the rest to you. As you know, it’s not as easy to train outstanding police dogs at our base as one might think.”

”Even if we increase the number, the total can’t exceed three hundred. Any more than that, and we won’t have the energy to manage them, which would be a waste. Director Wang, you have to remember this point.”

Director Wang cried out in silent misery. He had thought that the graduation of these two hundred police dogs would significantly relieve his pressure.

But now, not only had it not been relieved, the pressure was even greater.

These people came to pick up the dogs and actually complained there were too few, demanding more. Some even argued until they were red in the face just to get one extra dog.

Han Xiaorui left these departmental matters to Director Wang and made a quick exit.

As for how these police dogs would be allocated, that was Director Wang’s problem.

Director Wang was also afraid Han Xiaorui would just quit. If that happened, he wouldn’t even know where to go to cry.

Shencheng had wanted to keep more of the first batch of police dogs for itself, but it didn’t work out. In the end, they only managed to keep ten, while the rest were all snatched up by the various other departments.

Even the five police dogs that Kuno Hiroo had arranged for Japan were part of the first batch and were airlifted over.

Although Han Xiaorui didn’t know what valuable assets were traded for them, she knew Hua Country definitely didn’t get the short end of the stick.

Only a week had passed, and the feedback wasn’t just from Shencheng; other regions also reported tremendous results.

With the help of the police dogs, the case-solving rate had increased dramatically.

This was especially true for drug enforcement. On the southwestern border, the police dogs repeatedly performed outstandingly, catching many drug traffickers.

In addition, the bomb-sniffing dogs were extremely effective at mine-clearing. Their keen sense of smell helped soldiers clear mines and increased their efficiency.

The rave reviews also put the Shencheng police dog base under immense pressure.

Director Wang was called into a meeting with his superiors. ”Sir, it’s not that I’m refusing or trying to be difficult. It’s that Comrade Han said the maximum is three hundred dogs. Any more than that, and she can’t train them all.”

His superior, Director Sun, said in a low voice, ”From what I understand, Comrade Han Xiaorui doesn’t actually go to the police dog base every day, and even when she does, she’s there for an hour or two at most. If we increased her workload and working hours, could we increase the number of dogs she trains?”

Hearing this, Director Wang broke out in a sweat. ”Sun Leader, although Comrade Han doesn’t spend much time at the base, she pats every single dog on the head and speaks to them.”

”At first, we didn’t think much of it, but over time, we discovered that when Comrade Xiao Han does this, it’s as if she’s awakening their intelligence. They become able to completely understand human speech.”

”Furthermore, the feed that Comrade Han formulates not only strengthens the dogs’ constitutions but also keeps them healthy and rarely sick. We hardly ever have to use things like antibiotics.”

”Comrade Han isn’t a full-time trainer; she has her own job. Besides, she recently gave birth and is still breastfeeding. Frankly, it’s already impressive that she’s managing to come to work at all. You can’t ask for too much.”

Director Sun thought for a moment. ”What about offering her a bigger bonus? Or more honors? Would that convince her to increase her working hours?”

Director Wang shook his head. ”Sir, do you think I haven’t tried that? I have, but Han Xiaorui said she doesn’t have the energy and can’t manage it. She’s doing all this purely to make a contribution.”

”Let’s not even talk about her husband’s family. Just look at her—her ornamental fish farm generates fifty million US Dollars in foreign exchange annually. Do you really think she cares about the small bonus we can offer?”

Sun Leader was speechless. If she were part of the system, a Party member, they could just pile on more responsibility. If the conditions were right, great. If not, they would create the conditions.

But she was a common citizen, and a wealthy one at that. That made things difficult.

”Alright, then. We’ll send over three hundred puppies as soon as possible to begin their training. I swear, I spend all my days doing nothing but rejecting requests from our brother units.”

Director Wang smiled. ”That’s also a testament to your excellent leadership. It’s precisely because our police dogs are so good that they’re this popular.”

Sun Leader was very pleased but remained modest. ”It’s all for the sake of doing our jobs better.”

Because of the excellent performance of this batch of police dogs, reported back from various departments, the Shencheng Public Security Department held a grand commendation ceremony for the Jinshan Bay Police Dog Base.

As the head trainer, Han Xiaorui received a large certificate of merit and a commendation certificate.

Sun Leader shook Han Xiaorui’s hand. ”Comrade Han, thank you for the outstanding contributions you’ve made to our police work.”

Han Xiaorui replied humbly, ”It’s my duty to serve the people.”

Sun Leader was quite surprised to hear this. ”Comrade Han, have you joined the Party?”

Han Xiaorui shook her head. ”No. Although I’m not a Party member, I love my country, and I love the land beneath my feet.”

Sun Leader was even more satisfied. ”In that case, how about we recommend you for Party membership?”

Han Xiaorui blinked. ’I don’t have to join, but my political awareness can’t be low.’ ”I have many private enterprises under my name right now. Can I still join the Party?”

Sun Leader smiled. ”Our Party has always sought to unite all forces that can be united. You are not a capitalist; you are an entrepreneur who serves the people.”

”Isn’t the point of Reform and Opening-Up to let some people get rich first through certain policies, so they can then help others get rich? Some of your own actions are the very model of a true entrepreneur.”

Han Xiaorui nodded. ”Thank you, Sun Leader. I would be very willing.”

Sun Leader nodded. ”Excellent. We’ll get you registered on the public security system’s official payroll shortly, and then you can actively pursue Party membership!”

”Yes!” Han Xiaorui nodded. Just as she was about to leave, Sun Leader stopped her again.

”The police dog base can train a maximum of 300 dogs. Can that number really not be increased?” Although Sun Leader had already gotten the answer from Director Wang, he hadn’t given up hope.

Han Xiaorui didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. This time, she had to make it absolutely clear. ”Sun Leader, you might not believe me when I say this, but I have to communicate with every single dog. It’s incredibly draining mentally. Given my energy and ability, this is the absolute maximum.”
