The Sea Queen of 1985

Chapter 426: Chapter 426: Siding with Outsiders

Han Xiaorui nodded. ”Okay.”

There was no doubt that having children made a family’s foundation more stable.

Many people say, if a marriage relies solely on children, what’s the point?

Children aren’t everything in a marriage, but a family with only love and no children misses out on a lot of joy.

Besides, Han Xiaorui already had Pingping and An’an. While Ye Feng and the Xu family were willing to accept them, no one could deny that Pingping and An’an were not Ye Feng’s biological children.

If Ye Feng never had biological children of his own, it would be unfair to him.

Not to mention the Xu family’s elders.

Han Xiaorui herself liked children and always felt that the more, the merrier, so she was never against having them.

’But childbirth really hurts.’

’It’s only right for Ye Feng to spoil me a little more.’

Thanks to the doctor’s superb delivery skills, Han Xiaorui finally gave birth to two babies an hour later.

The first to arrive was the older brother, weighing five pounds, one ounce.

He was followed by his younger sister, who weighed four pounds, ten ounces.

Han Xiaorui asked anxiously, ”Are the babies healthy?”

The doctor laughed. ”With cries this loud, they’re perfectly healthy. It’s rare to see twins with such strong cries. You’ve done a great job carrying them, Mom. You’ve worked hard. Don’t worry about the babies, just get some rest.”

”Thank you!” Han Xiaorui watched as a nurse brought the two babies over. Their skin was fair with a rosy undertone, just a little wrinkled.

’They’ll be fine once they fill out in a few days.’

Thanks to the Xu family’s connections, Han Xiaorui had a private room with its own bathroom.

Ye Feng couldn’t seem to look at enough things at once. One moment he was looking at his daughter, the next his son, then back to Han Xiaorui.

Wu Yao had gone back to cook something delicious for Han Xiaorui, so now only Ye Feng was there to take care of her.

Mr. Xu had called his wife.

Old Madam Xu couldn’t rest easy, so she had her driver bring them to the hospital.

Old Madam Xu hadn’t recovered from her cold yet. Wearing a mask, she stood at the doorway, gazing longingly at Han Xiaorui and the babies in the crib. ”Xiao Rui, I have a cold, so I won’t come in. I’ll come see you and the babies after I’m better.”

Xu Yingying didn’t have a cold, so she came in and went to the crib with the two little ones. ”They’re so cute! Let me see, which one is the brother? And which is the sister?”

Ye Feng asked with a smile, ”Aunt, which one do you think looks like me?”

Xu Yingying leaned in for a closer look. ”This one who looks like you must be the brother, and this one who looks like Xiao Rui must be the sister.”

Hearing this, Ye Feng shook his head smugly. ”Nope! The one who looks like me is the sister. The one who looks like Xiao Rui is the brother.”

Xu Yingying looked closely again and saw that it was true. ”How interesting.”

Old Madam Xu paced anxiously at the door, wanting to come in for a look, but she managed to hold back in the end.

’Newborns are so fragile. I can’t be reckless.’

’Besides, Xiao Rui is weak right now, too.’

”Xiao Rui, I’m leaving Sister Lian here with you. She’s great with children and knows how to care for new mothers.”

Han Xiaorui smiled. ”Thank you, Aunt.”

”Don’t mention it, it’s what we should do. You need to rest well and recuperate now.” Xu Yingying reassured Han Xiaorui. ”As for Mom, you and Ye Feng don’t need to worry. We can take care of ourselves.”

Han Xiaorui looked at Xu Yingying, whose baby bump was now showing, and placed a hand on her belly. ”You’ll get your wish too, Aunt.”

”Yes, we both will,” Xu Yingying said with a smile, then instructed Sister Lian on how to take care of Han Xiaorui during her postpartum confinement.

After Old Madam Xu and Xu Yingying left, Wu Cuicui arrived.

Seeing that Han Xiaorui had safely given birth to two children, Wu Cuicui was happy for her. ”As long as everyone is safe and sound. I’m keeping an eye on Pingping and An’an at home.”

”Thanks so much, Sister Cuicui.” Han Xiaorui had just had a nap and eaten a bowl of chicken noodle soup, so her energy had recovered quite a bit.

”Don’t thank me. My Minmin sometimes stays over at your place, and you never say it’s a bother. I’m just looking after Pingping and An’an for you, why would you need to thank me for that?” Wu Cuicui said with a bright smile, setting down some nutritional supplements.

Not wanting to disturb Han Xiaorui’s rest, she said her goodbyes and left.

When others asked Wu Jiao which hospital Han Xiaorui was in so they could visit, Wu Jiao turned them all away.

’Even though they mean well, what Sister Xiao Rui needs most right now is rest.’

’It would be better for all these friends and relatives to visit after she’s discharged and back home.’

After staying in the hospital for five days and confirming that both mother and babies were fine, they were finally discharged.

On the day of her discharge, Ye Feng was there personally, carrying their luggage.

Liang Xiaoyu and Wu Cuicui, dressed in new clothes, had gone to the Peach Garden to break off two peach branches.

Whether taking a baby out or bringing one home from the hospital, you had to carry peach branches.

According to legend, a newborn’s soul is light. Peach wood, being of yang nature, could ward off demons and ghosts, and its branches were used to ensure safety.

Han Xiaorui was able to walk on her own, while Wu Cuicui and Liang Xiaoyu each held a baby.

To ensure Han Xiaorui’s comfort, Mr. Xu had his driver bring over his RV.

It was incredibly luxurious, spacious, and comfortable inside.

Ye Feng helped Han Xiaorui get seated, then settled Liang Xiaoyu and Wu Cuicui into their seats. ”Thanks so much, Sister Cuicui, Sister-in-law Xiao Yu.”

Liang Xiaoyu adored the little one in her arms. She placed the peach branch beside her. ”Don’t thank us, I was dying to hold the baby. I thought Xiao Rui still had some time to go, but as soon as we got off the boat, we heard she’d given birth. Everyone was so concerned about her.”

Han Xiaorui smiled. ”Thank you all. I’ll host a banquet for everyone on the babies’ 100-day celebration. By the way, Sister Xiao Yu, how was the trip out to sea this time?”

As soon as Han Xiaorui asked, Liang Xiaoyu perked up. ”The national fishing moratorium is definitely necessary. The seafood we caught this time was noticeably bigger than before. We didn’t catch any particularly valuable fish, but returning fully loaded was a huge profit in itself.”

”All four boats that went out together came back fully loaded. Zhang Guangnan picked out the best-looking ones, and the rest were all sold to the seafood wholesale market. Now, all the bosses at the wholesale market are fighting to treat Uncle Yang to dinner and cozy up to him.”

Wu Cuicui laughed. ”They can’t get to Xiao Rui, so they have to go to Uncle Yang. Now, that seafood wholesale market can get a ton of supply right here at our Jinshan Bay Pier, and they’re making a killing.”

”Once we buy a few more boats, we can form a fleet. Then we can go to more distant waters and catch more seafood.” Han Xiaorui was filled with ambition. ’If I don’t catch the seafood in the ocean, someone else will.’

’So it might as well be me.’

’I have a fish fry hatchery. In the future, I’ll release more fry into the sea every spring as my way of giving back to the ocean.’

Liang Xiaoyu’s eyes lit up. ”It’s great that you’re thinking that way too! We were suggesting the same thing on the boat.”

”Sister Yishui and Sister Mengyue also said we should venture out farther to catch more fish, not just stick around our own backyard.”

”Exactly, we need to branch out,” Han Xiaorui said with a smile. She was confident she had the ability to lead the fleet out to meet the vast, open ocean.

But just as Han Xiaorui got home, someone from the village committee came to file a ”report.”
