The Sea Queen of 1985

Chapter 404: Chapter 404: Wanting to Be Free

He would get a divorce, even if it meant giving up half of everything he owned.

Yang Zhigang was fed up with the thought of spending the rest of his life with a person like her. Getting out now was for the best.

His heart was tired enough already; he didn’t want to suffer any more.

Zhang Xiufang was insisting on a divorce, so he would grant her wish. But if he agreed too easily, she might just change her mind.

Seeing Yang Zhigang act this way, Zhang Xiufang assumed he didn’t dare to get a divorce, didn’t dare to offend their son, Yang Jianming.

”A divorce. We must get a divorce. Or you can give me five hundred thousand. If not, I’m absolutely divorcing you.”

Yang Zhigang sneered, ”Go ahead, use whatever tricks you have. I’d like to see if you can actually go through with a divorce.”

Zhang Xiufang sneered back, ”If you don’t give me the money, this divorce is happening.”

Yang Zhigang didn’t want to look at Zhang Xiufang’s ugly, greedy face any longer, so he turned and walked away.

Zhang Xiufang thought that following her son to the United States would be a life of comfort, but Yang Zhigang didn’t see it that way.

If Yang Jianming had any intention of paying for Zhang Xiufang’s treatment, he wouldn’t have waited until now, and he certainly wouldn’t have made Zhang Xiufang raise the money herself.

At that moment, Yang Zhigang’s disappointment in Yang Jianming grew even stronger.

Yang Zhigang remained calm, but Zhang Xiufang went all out. She called a lawyer—a divorce specialist, no less.

It wasn’t cheap, but Zhang Xiufang could afford it.

When Yang Zhigang received the court summons, he wasn’t angry. In fact, he laughed.

Yang Jianguo had thought his uncle was being sued over a financial dispute. When he saw what it was, he was completely dumbfounded.

”Uncle, is Aunt out of her mind? How dare she ask you for a divorce? Has she gone crazy?”

If it weren’t for his uncle, if it had been anyone else, his aunt would have long been paralyzed and immobile. She might not even be alive.

Yang Zhigang replied, ”She’s not crazy. She’s demanding five hundred thousand from me to go to the United States with Jianming for medical treatment. I refused, so now she wants a divorce to take half of my assets. She’s dead set on going to the United States.”

Yang Jianguo was stunned. ”Uncle, Jianming is back?”

”Yes, he’s back,” Yang Zhigang replied. ”He came home while I was out. Now he’s hiding in a hotel. He hasn’t come to see me. I guess he’s too ashamed.”

Yang Jianguo gritted his teeth in anger. ”That bastard, causing trouble the moment he returns. Uncle, which hotel is he at? Tell me. I’m going to beat him up.”

Yang Zhigang shook his head. ”What good would beating him do? A leopard can’t change its spots. Some people are just cold-hearted by nature; they can’t be changed.”

”He won’t come see us, so we won’t go see him. He won’t come see the four children, so in the future, the four children will have nothing to do with him. Let’s not bring this suffering upon ourselves.”

Yang Jianguo’s eyes reddened with anger, and his voice choked up. ”Uncle, please don’t be angry.”

Yang Zhigang sighed. ”If I were still getting angry, I’d have been angry to death by now. I’m not angry. I still have all these granddaughters. I have to live a good long life and watch these children grow up.”

Hearing his uncle’s words, Yang Jianguo felt relieved. At least his uncle had something to live for and wouldn’t do anything rash.

”Uncle, Aunt wants to divorce you. Are you really going to go through with it?” Yang Jianguo asked.

Yang Zhigang nodded. ”Yes. Even if it means giving up half of everything I own, I’ll get the divorce. Once she walks out of the Yang Family’s door, she’s no longer a woman of the Yang Family. From then on, whether she lives or dies is none of my concern.”

”All these years, for the sake of our marriage, I never divorced her, even when Zhang Xiufang went too far. Now she wants a divorce, so I’ll grant her wish. If I don’t divorce her and just give her the five hundred thousand, there will only be more trouble in the future.”

Hearing this, Yang Jianguo sighed to himself. He couldn’t understand why his aunt would throw away a good life to follow Yang Jianming to the United States.

’Was the United States really that great?’

’It’s full of foreigners, she can’t speak the language... how is a person with physical disabilities supposed to live?’

’Rely on Yang Jianming?’

’What a joke!’

Hearing that his uncle had made his decision, Yang Jianguo said, ”Uncle, no matter what you decide, I support you. In any case, you still have me and Cuicui, and all these granddaughters.”

”If Aunt divorces you, I’ll buy the biggest of the villas Xiao Rui built, and we’ll move in there. Before we do, you should make a will leaving all your property to the four granddaughters. I won’t take a single cent.”

Yang Zhigang didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. ”There’s really no need. You earn much more than I do now.”

”There is a need!” Yang Jianguo replied. ”I can’t have people thinking I’m after your money. My parents passed away before I was an adult. It was you, Uncle, who helped me, who pulled me up and helped me build a good life.”

Yang Zhigang shook his head and chuckled. ”Alright, have it your way.”

Zhang Xiufang made a huge scene. Not only did she file a lawsuit, but she also went to the village committee to ask for their help.

”Yang Zhigang has money but won’t pay for my treatment! I want a divorce!” Zhang Xiufang raised hell. ’The bigger the scene I make, the easier it’ll be to get my five hundred thousand.’

’She knew Yang Zhigang. He cared about saving face; he’d give in quickly.’

Village Chief Liu was dumbfounded. He looked at Zhang Xiufang as if she were an idiot. ”Xiufang, how old are you? And you’re getting a divorce? In your condition, who would have you besides Zhigang?”

Zhang Xiufang said with righteous indignation, ”My son! I’m going to the United States with my son! Yang Zhigang probably wishes I were paralyzed. He won’t give me money for treatment. If I don’t divorce him and take my share, should I just wait to die and leave my money for Yang Zhigang to use to marry some widow?”

”Either he gives me five hundred thousand, or we divorce and I get half the assets. If he doesn’t agree, I’ll keep making a scene until he can’t live in peace.”

Village Chief Liu and the head of the Women’s Federation, Xu Hongxia, saw that she couldn’t be persuaded and gave up. If someone was determined to ruin their own life, they couldn’t stop them.

When Wu Cuicui came and told Han Xiaorui, she was shocked.

”Since Zhang Xiufang wants a divorce, then let her have it. It will be a relief for Uncle Yang, too.”

Wu Cuicui nodded. ”Jianguo saw that Uncle was dead set on it, so he’s not trying to stop him anymore. Apparently, her side wanted to negotiate a settlement, but Uncle refused. He wants to go to court and make it public so he doesn’t have to bicker with her anymore.”

Han Xiaorui smiled. ”Uncle Yang is probably worried that Zhang Xiufang will take the money and then go back on her word. If you’re going to get a divorce, it’s best to make a clean break.”

”That’s what Uncle thinks, too. I just hate it so much. All the old feelings are gone. And Yang Jianming, that bastard, he’s just disgusting. To come back to the country and not even show his face.” Wu Cuicui was angry, her resentment for Yang Jianming ran deep.

’How could anyone have a son like that?’

’You’d be better off giving birth to a roast pig than a son like that!’

Since the other party had already hired a lawyer for the divorce and had even provided a list of the family assets, the wedding gift Yang Zhigang had given to Han Xiaorui was also included.

”Sister Cuicui, tell Uncle Yang that if he’s short on money, he should tell me. I can lend him some to tide him over so he doesn’t have to borrow from anyone else,” Han Xiaorui said. At a time like this, she had to take the initiative to help Yang Zhigang.

She admitted that Yang Jianming was no good, but her father-in-law, Yang Zhigang, had been very good to her and the children.

Wu Cuicui waved her hand. ”No need. Jianguo has earned so much money, I can’t even spend it all. We’ll use our family’s money first. If that’s not enough, then we’ll borrow from you.”

”Okay!” Han Xiaorui nodded. She hoped these frustrating matters could be resolved soon so that Uncle Yang could live out his later years in peace.
