The Sea Queen of 1985

Chapter 445: Chapter 445: The Police Dogs Graduate

Han Xiaorui shook her head. ”No. The paper in those books looked old, but it hadn’t decomposed at all. The pages were all clean and intact, and the writing was clear.”

”The letter read, ’To the worthy one who finds this: If my body has decayed, I have passed through seated transformation. If my body remains incorrupt, I have ascended. These classics are a gift; please return my body to the Maoshan Sect.’ So Yuan Cheng was saying that if his body was found incorrupt, it meant he had ascended. The Daoist classics were a thank-you gift, and his body was to be returned to the Maoshan Sect.”

Ye Feng scratched his head. ”You don’t hear about things like that very often. Most people never get exposed to it, much less learn it.”

Han Xiaorui smiled. ”True. With the Maoshan Sect, the Taoist Association, and all their lay disciples like Mr. Zhao and Yao Ziqian, it’s not like it would be our turn to learn anyway.”

”We’re lucky just to learn some exercises for staying healthy, like the Five Animals Qigong, Eight Pieces of Brocade, and Sixteen-section Brocade. Xiao Jing, on the other hand, is really into it. She’s been practicing so diligently.”

Ye Feng nodded. ”That stuff is actually really useful. I had a former colleague who grew up in a Taoist Sect and then joined the army. Back then, it was thanks to him that we were able to find our way back out of a dense jungle.”

”I didn’t understand it, but he used knowledge of astronomy, geography, and feng shui. The ingenious Qimen Dunjia traps he made effectively hindered our pursuers. Later, after my colleague retired from the military, he turned down a government-arranged job and became a wandering Daoist again.”

”That’s really free-spirited of him,” Han Xiaorui praised. ”Alright, that whole business is wrapped up now, so we don’t need to worry about it anymore. Now, I have some good news for you.”

Ye Feng leaned in, looking at their son on the bed who was chewing on his little foot. ”What good news?”

”Our son and daughter are finally willing to drink formula,” Han Xiaorui said with a smile. ”I prepared some distilled water today. Wu Yao and Sister Lian used it to mix the formula, and the two little ones actually drank it.”

Hearing this, Ye Feng was overjoyed. ”That’s great! It’s about time they started on formula! The two of them are growing so fast, your milk supply just can’t keep up. They’re getting all plump and healthy, but you’ve gotten so much thinner!”

Han Xiaorui was tall. Pregnancy had left her more curvaceous but not overweight, giving her a mature charm.

In Ye Feng’s eyes, being fair and having some meat on one’s bones was a sign of a good, carefree life.

Han Xiaorui had finally gained a little weight, but from breastfeeding the two babies, she was getting thinner by the day. It was just too taxing for her.

Han Xiaorui pursed her lips and chuckled. ”Other men can’t wait for their wives to be a little thinner, but you’re the opposite, hoping I’ll be chubby.”

”That’s because you look even better with a little more weight on you!” Ye Feng said sweetly. Han Xiaorui was a foodie. When she was busy working, she could eat a lot without gaining weight.

But if she wasn’t active and ate a lot, Han Xiaorui would still put on pounds.

That’s why Han Xiaorui, who worried about gaining weight, would always feel terribly regretful and anxious after indulging.

’Actually, none of this really mattered to Ye Feng. He’d admit he was first drawn to Han Xiaorui’s beauty.’

’But after they really got together, her looks became secondary. It was her free-spirited, down-to-earth, and kind heart that truly captivated him.’

’You could even say that Han Xiaorui had healed his own inner anxieties and his conflicted, indecisive nature.’

Han Xiaorui snorted at his words and playfully rolled her eyes.

”You’re just afraid that if I slim down, have a good figure, and look pretty, I’ll get more admirers and suitors. If I’m chubby and ugly, no one will like me, no one will pursue me, and then you won’t have to worry.”

Ye Feng was momentarily speechless before breaking into laughter. ”Ah! You’ve seen right through my dark secret! But whether you’re chubby or slim, all I want is for you to be happy and healthy.”

In the early mornings, Ye Feng would get up to run, often taking Han Xiaorui with him.

As for her weight, with plenty of exercise and a fast metabolism, she wouldn’t really get too heavy anyway.

”Now that the babies are on formula, I don’t have to be stuck at home all day! There’s so much to do right now, I’m so busy,” Han Xiaorui said. ”But I promise I’ll be home by noon tomorrow to take care of the kids, so you don’t have to worry.”

Ye Feng laughed heartily. ”I’ve seen how dedicated you are with Pingping and An’an, so I’m sure you can take good care of Ningning and Zhuangzhuang too.”

”When it comes to raising children, mothers definitely do more than fathers. But when they get a little older, I’ll take them out to play more and get involved in their education.”

Han Xiaorui was truly happy that Ye Feng had come to this realization.

Although she usually took good care of Pingping and An’an, it was obvious that when Ye Feng was with them, the two girls became much bolder.

They even dared to be mischievous and make trouble, and they could argue confidently with other kids.

This change in them wasn’t a sense of security that Han Xiaorui could provide just by being strong or tough. It was a sense of security that came from the children’s instincts and their reliance on their father.

Once, a boy at kindergarten pushed Pingping down. When Ye Feng went to pick Pingping up, his daughter told on the boy.

Without even needing to say a word, Ye Feng just glared at the little boy, who was so scared he immediately came over to apologize and promised he would never push her again.

”Okay, you can be the loving father, and I’ll be the strict mother,” Han Xiaorui said with a smile.

She had given birth to all these children, so when it came to disciplining them, Han Xiaorui could be impartial.

The two of them reached a consensus on how to raise their children.

Every morning, Han Xiaorui would prepare a kettle of distilled water to make the babies’ formula.

Han Xiaorui rode her motorcycle, visiting each of her businesses every day.

If any issues came up, she could make decisions on the spot. Her work efficiency was high, and the projects progressed very quickly.

On this day, at the police dog training base, red flags and colorful banners fluttered everywhere.

As the head instructor, Han Xiaorui had been coming in for an hour every morning ever since her month of postpartum confinement ended.

After six months of training, all two hundred police puppies had passed their exams and become certified police dogs.

Today was the graduation day for all the police dogs, and Han Xiaorui came in person.

Looking at the police dogs in their little vests, Han Xiaorui gently stroked each of their heads, calling out their numbers and names as she presented them with their graduation certificates.

These certificates, along with any commendations for meritorious service, would be recorded in the dogs’ permanent files.

When these police dogs died of old age or in the line of duty, these honors would remain with them.

All the police dogs shook their heads, nuzzled Han Xiaorui’s palm, and barked a few times, as if responding to her.

It wasn’t just the Shencheng police who came today; even well-informed departments from other provinces and cities had sent people over.

When these visitors arrived, they saw that the police dogs were large, with agile and sharp movements.

Whether it was for drug detection, bomb disposal, rescue, or tracking, their abilities were far ahead of the curve.

The representatives sent from these peer departments had been ordered to do everything possible to secure more of the police dogs.

Many people tried to cozy up to Han Xiaorui, anxiously buzzing around her, but Han Xiaorui didn’t know any of them.

”I’m sorry, everyone. I’m only in charge of the training. As for their allocation, that’s handled by Director Wang and the Shencheng Public Security Department.”
