The Sea Queen of 1985

Chapter 288: Chapter 288: You Still Haven’t Avenged Our Nation and Family, So Keep a Low Profile

Li the translator looked at the car, which had been pelted with dog poop, and was on the verge of tears.

’My god!’

’The stench is overwhelming. With the way I’m being treated today, I really am nothing but a collaborator!’

Meanwhile, the main offender, Yamamoto Yoshihiko, had a face as black as thunder, spewing a stream of angry gibberish.

”Who was it?”

”Call the police! We must call the police! I will absolutely request assistance from the embassy. I am being persecuted!”

Seeing Yamamoto Yoshihiko fuming, Li the translator said irritably, ”Mr. Yamamoto, I’ll call the police right away.”

Li the translator went straight to a nearby public phone on the docks to call the police.

Seeing no children around the car, Han Xiaorui stopped Yang Zhigang and Yang Jianguo.

”The kids all ran off. Brother Jianguo, you keep an eye on the fish farm. I’ll take Minmin and the others home. Uncle Yang, you go have a word with the parents of the other village kids. Tell them to watch their children and lay low.”

Yang Zhigang suppressed a laugh and nodded. ”Heh, alright, leave it to me. We’ll just have to lie today, and I’ll tell the kids why we’re lying.”

When Han Xiaorui and Yang Zhigang came out from the fish farm, they saw the furious Yamamoto Yoshihiko and Li the translator.

Yamamoto Yoshihiko rushed over, pointing at Han Xiaorui and Yang Zhigang. ”It must have been you!”

”My, my, what happened to you two? What have you done to offend both gods and men to get so much dog poop on your car?” Han Xiaorui laughed heartily. ”I’m warning you, don’t you dare falsely accuse me. You have no proof. I could sue you for slander!”

Hearing Han Xiaorui, Li the translator didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. ”Ms. Han, please don’t add fuel to the fire. We still don’t know how this is going to be handled.”

”Look around. There are lots of children’s footprints. You don’t want the kids to be caught, do you?”

Han Xiaorui retorted, ”So what if there are children’s footprints? Are kids not allowed to be curious when they see a car? If you didn’t catch anyone red-handed, don’t accuse people.”

After the call was made, the case was assigned to the Jinshan Bay Police Station.

The two local police officers who were dispatched learned that the man was Yamamoto Yoshihiko and immediately connected him to the previous incident with Yamamoto Ichiro.

Looking at the footprints on the ground, they had a pretty good idea of what had happened.

”Li the translator, leaving your car parked here isn’t a good idea. You should get it towed to a car wash and have it cleaned. We need to investigate, but with no eyewitnesses, it will likely take some time.”

How could Li the translator not recognize this as a stalling tactic from the Jinshan Bay police? But there was nothing he could do.

Right now, it was just dog poop. If they waited a little longer, until nightfall, he and this Japanese man might end up getting beaten up.

He translated the gist of it for Yamamoto Yoshihiko. ”Mr. Yamamoto, the police have been dispatched. There’s a repair shop and car wash nearby. A tow truck will be here soon to take the car to be cleaned. There’s no need for us to wait here.”

Yamamoto Yoshihiko’s face was dark. ”No! I will stay here and apply pressure. Make them find who did this! I want them severely punished.”

Li the translator grew frantic. ”Mr. Yamamoto, I have to advise you, this is Hua Country, not your Japan. Of course, you probably wouldn’t dare to be so brazen even in Japan.”

”Right now, you’re still getting polite assistance from the police. But if we wait until dark... well, you know, Hua Country people are experts at guerrilla warfare. When that happens, it might not be the car getting dog poop thrown on it, but you!”

Yamamoto Yoshihiko got agitated. ”Impossible! I’m a Japanese citizen!”

Li the translator was also getting fed up. ”If you weren’t Japanese, perhaps this wouldn’t be so much trouble. It hasn’t even been fifty years since the invasion.”

”The atrocities your Japan committed in Hua Country are still fresh in the minds of many people here. It’s a matter of national hatred and personal vendettas. If your life is in danger later, Mr. Yamamoto, don’t say I didn’t warn you.”

Yamamoto Yoshihiko was startled. ”You... you people wouldn’t do that, would you?”

”Heh, who knows?” Li the translator shrugged. ”I’ve said my piece. If you’re not leaving, I am.”

’I’m an old man, almost sixty. If someone threw me into the sea to feed the fish, not even a bone fragment would be left to find.’

Under Li the translator’s combination of persuasion and threats, Yamamoto Yoshihiko had no choice but to leave with the tow truck.

Police Officer Wang from the station chuckled. ”The village kids are a bit mischievous. Keep them in line.”

Yang Zhigang shook his head and laughed. ”The kids are naughty. Sorry to cause trouble for you officers. Thanks for your hard work.”

Police Officer Wang waved his hand. ”It’s nothing. They were the ones who went too far! As for this incident, we’ll just say we couldn’t find anything.”

It was so obvious that Police Officer Wang could guess what happened without even investigating.

Han Xiaorui found Yang Minmin hiding at her house, playing with her younger sister.

”Auntie Xiao Rui, is my dad going to hit me?” Yang Minmin didn’t dare to go home.

Han Xiaorui smiled and patted Yang Minmin’s head. ”He won’t hit you. You did a good job today. But next time, remember to bring a branch or a broom to cover your tracks.”

Hearing this, Yang Minmin slapped her own forehead. ”Oh my god, how could I forget? Can the police find us from the footprints now?”

”Police Officer Wang already knows you did it, but he’s making an exception today and won’t pursue it. But you can’t do anything illegal in the future, understand?”

When Yang Minmin heard the police weren’t going to press charges, her face lit up, and she instantly relaxed. ”That’s great! When I saw the police just now, I thought I was going to be arrested. But I’m still young, so even if I committed a crime, I probably wouldn’t get a sentence, right?”

Han Xiaorui was slightly taken aback by this. She patiently guided Yang Minmin, ”Minmin, you have to remember, the juvenile protection laws are meant to protect good children. What you did today was understandable under the circumstances, which is why you’re not being held responsible.”

”You’re very young, so you won’t be held responsible. But even if you can get away, your family can’t. As your guardians, your parents would be the ones held accountable. While what happened today wouldn’t lead to detention or a prison sentence, if they really pressed charges, they would definitely have to pay a fine.”

Yang Minmin scratched her head. ”I know it’s wrong to throw dog poop on someone’s car, but why wouldn’t I throw it at that Japanese devil’s car instead of anyone else’s? His family committed crimes, and now he wants to get them off the hook.”

”We didn’t agree, and he threatened us. It’s just outrageous! I hate Japanese devils! If there were another war, I’d definitely go to the front lines and kill all of them.”

Listening to Yang Minmin’s righteously indignant words, Han Xiaorui smiled. The child had this kind of patriotic spirit, and she couldn’t just stamp out that enthusiasm.

”Minmin, do you know what our country’s ’Two Bombs, One Satellite’ program is?” Han Xiaorui asked with a smile. With a smart child like this, you couldn’t just suppress her feelings; you had to guide them correctly, scientifically.

’Pure hatred often leads to many problems.’ Han Xiaorui now hoped to channel that hatred into something constructive, to inspire a child like Yang Minmin to strive for greatness.
