The Sea Queen of 1985

Chapter 275: Chapter 275: Easily Snatching Clients

Seeing that everyone was there for the ornamental fish, Zhou Wei waited for Han Xiaorui to finish up with a customer.

He immediately had his employees carry over a fish tank.

Joey had actually already noticed the fish tanks. They were clear and clean, easily on par with those from his current suppliers.

After hearing the prices being quoted, Joey decided on the spot and chose to place an order with Zhou Wei’s factory.

He also said that he would visit their factory after the exhibition ended.

Yu Zhenxing kept bringing potential clients over, and the translators now also began introducing the ornamental fish and fish tanks.

Throughout the day, their booth had a constant stream of customers; it never stopped.

At noon, they ate lunch in shifts, making sure someone was always at the booth.

This was a specialized trade fair, after all. The target customers were more precise. It was much better than the light industrial products fair in Shencheng.

’It would be great if they also had a ”flowers, birds, insects, and fish” category. I should give that feedback to the local organizers later.’

A trade fair should, of course, serve its exhibitors by arranging more display opportunities and attracting more customers.

Besides, Shencheng was their fish farm’s home turf. They could get a bigger booth next time, make it look better, and give it more visual impact.

Although Han Xiaorui and Zhou Wei had brought a lot of materials, they used up half of their supplies on the first day of the three-day exhibition.

Han Xiaorui hadn’t expected it either. She hadn’t imagined they would meet so many target customers at the Yue Province Trade Fair.

The employees were carefully packing the fish into individual fish boxes.

Han Xiaorui and Zhou Wei stood to the side while Yu Zhenxing was sorting through the potential orders and prospective clients.

”Xiao Rui, I think my new factory can operate at full capacity.”

Zhou Wei’s new factory had recently started production. However, because they only had their old clients and no new ones, the order volume hadn’t increased, so they weren’t operating at full throttle.

Han Xiaorui nodded. ”Thankfully, we listened to Director Chen and built the new factory right away.”

”Otherwise, with so many customers and a surge in orders, we wouldn’t have been able to provide enough products at all. We might have lost these clients!”

Zhou Wei nodded. ”Yeah, my fish tank factory has your fish farm to thank for this.”

Han Xiaorui returned the compliment, ”Zhou Wei, you don’t have to be so modest! You’ve been actively improving your glass production techniques, and the performance of the tanks you make is getting better and better.”

”If your fish tanks didn’t meet the standards of foreign clients, they wouldn’t buy them no matter how much I recommended them.”

”The fundamental reason is your own quality! But products need to be upgraded. Your fish tanks have to keep innovating.”

”It’s just like with our ornamental fish. We are also breeding them to be easier to raise, better-looking, and more aesthetically pleasing.”

Zhou Wei agreed completely. ”Our factory’s technicians are researching every day, not just the glass production process, but also the performance of the fish tanks.”

Han Xiaorui suggested, ”A tank with only fish in it doesn’t look as good. Things like miniature rockeries, river pebbles, plants, and aquascaping—these are also key areas for us to focus on in the future.”

Zhou Wei thought for a moment. ”The plastic aquatic plants have better stability and are made to look realistic, but ultimately, they aren’t as good as real plants.”

”But real plants are very difficult to take care of. Plus, when it comes to exporting plants, it gets complicated because of issues like invasive species.”

Han Xiaorui nodded. ”Yes. It’s troublesome, but I also think we should actively push forward with it. We should try to miniaturize the aquatic plants and make them easy to cultivate.”

”Look, I put some grass seeds in this small fish tank, and in just a few days, a dense carpet of small aquatic plants grew.”

”These green aquatic plants don’t grow tall, only one or two centimeters high. When the little fish swim around in them, doesn’t it look great?”

Zhou Wei nodded repeatedly. ”Of course it looks great. When the little fish dart out from the patch of grass, the plants sway. It looks amazing.”

”That’s something plastic plants can’t achieve. A few customers just now also noticed this, and they were very interested.”

”You’re right. We can’t avoid doing it just because it’s troublesome. If these aquatic plants don’t pose a risk of becoming invasive species, they really have great development prospects.”

Han Xiaorui smiled and nodded. ”All the seeds only last for one generation. They won’t produce new seeds. When these aquatic plants finish growing, their life cycle is complete, so there’s no talk of them being invasive.”

”These aquatic plants not only absorb impurities from the water but can also provide food for some herbivorous or omnivorous ornamental fish.”

Zhou Wei considered it. ”This is indeed a very good direction for development. If we could have a few more varieties of aquatic plants, it would make the whole fish tank much more vibrant.”

”How about this: I’ll fund the R&D for the aquatic plants. We can look for experts in this field to research plants with these properties for us.”

Han Xiaorui nodded. ”Okay. When we get back, we’ll find an expert to do the research. Even if we can’t export them, we can still capture the domestic market.”

”Although our country’s level of economic development and consumption can’t match developed countries, there are plenty of rich people in our major cities.”

Zhou Wei couldn’t agree more. ”I have clients in Hangzhou, Suzhou, and Nanjing now.”

”Our Hua Country has such a large population, and the economy is developing rapidly. Once people’s material needs are met, they naturally start pursuing spiritual fulfillment.”

”Some old folks like to keep birds, but there are also people who like to keep fish! That’s where our ornamental fish and tanks come in handy!”

Han Xiaorui and Zhou Wei reached an agreement on this issue. They would jointly develop both domestic and international markets.

Yu Zhenxing, who had been listening to their conversation from the side, was very interested.

”My maternal uncle is a researcher of aquatic plants. He’s not doing much back home. I can introduce you!”

Han Xiaorui’s eyes lit up when she heard this. ”That’s fantastic! If someone is willing to specialize in developing aquatic plant seeds, I can invest and we can run it as a partnership.”

’When you’re just collecting a salary and working for a state-run unit, your motivation isn’t always very high unless you’re given a specific task from above.’

’But when you’re working for yourself, it’s a completely different story.’

Yu Zhenxing was dumbfounded. ”Ms. Han, is that really possible? My uncle’s research funding is often cut. He’s not good at expressing himself, so he’s been gradually marginalized. If it weren’t for his solid skills, he might have been fired.”

”The results of my uncle’s hard work were claimed by his superior. They said they would improve my uncle’s compensation, but then it all came to nothing. My aunt even cried out of anger, but there was nothing my uncle could do.”

Han Xiaorui thought for a moment. ”Zhengxing, while I trust you not to lie to me, standard practice dictates that I need to see your uncle’s actual abilities first. Of course, I can sponsor the initial investment. Once we see results, we’ll become partners.”

”At that point, your uncle will be able to do research for himself. He won’t have to feel frustrated because he can’t get research funding approved, and he won’t have to suffer because of a low standard of living.”

Yu Zhenxing had faith in his uncle’s skills and nodded repeatedly. ”Of course. You have to have real talent.”

They packed up all the fish and took them all away, not leaving a single one behind.

The people who had been harboring some crooked ideas were dumbfounded when they saw the fish being taken away.
