The Sea Queen of 1985

Chapter 99: Chapter 99: This Time, Ye Feng Must Bow to the Old Man

Han Xiaorui was relieved she had kept all her important belongings on her.

Han Xiaoqing said with a self-deprecating laugh, ”Of course I thought of that. That’s why my wallet’s on me. If it had been in my bag, she would’ve taken it long ago.”

That night, lying in bed, Han Xiaoqing couldn’t help but cry. Han Xiaorui gently patted her sister’s back, comforting her.

Ever since she had become ”Han Xiaorui,” her younger sister, Han Xiaoqing, had always been by her side, helping and supporting her.

She already considered Han Xiaoqing the most important person in her life. Han Xiaoqing was kind-hearted and deserved to be treated with kindness.

That was why, after earning enough money, the first thing she thought of was buying a house for her sister.

A house for her sister would mean she had a home of her own in Shencheng.

Comforted by her sister, Han Xiaoqing gradually calmed down and drifted off to sleep.

Han Xiaorui kept her child and her sister on the inside of the bed, believing she had the strength to protect them.

When Ye Feng returned that night, he had finally completed his assignment.

He had intended to make some tea, but when he saw the honey in the cabinet, he took it out and mixed himself a glass of honey water instead.

It was sweet. After a few sips, the faint scent of peach blossoms seemed to melt away his exhaustion.

The delicate fragrance carried his thoughts far away.

’I wonder how Han Xiaorui is doing back in her hometown.’

Zhou Yang hadn’t gone home yet, having waited specifically for Ye Feng. Hearing a noise from the office, he hurried over. ”Director Ye, Comrade Xiao Han called this morning. It sounded urgent.”

”I asked her what it was about, but she wouldn’t say. She just said you should contact Lawyer Chen Nanyang of Nanyang Law Firm.”

Hearing this, Ye Feng’s expression flickered, and he immediately set down his glass.

’Involving a lawyer means there must be some kind of dispute.’

’Not saying anything over the phone clearly means she wanted to keep it confidential, to guard against... to guard against Wang Liang!’

”Thanks, Zhou Yang. I understand,” Ye Feng nodded. ”Thank you for waiting until I got back to tell me. If there’s nothing else, you can head home.”

Zhou Yang replied, ”Yes, Director Ye.”

After Zhou Yang left, Ye Feng picked up the phone, searched his memory for Chen Nanyang’s number, and dialed.

After receiving Han Xiaorui’s call, Chen Nanyang had taken a trip to East China Normal University.

He checked the major the real Han Xiaoqing had applied for back then and, sure enough, found a student enrolled under that name.

He had secretly brought a camera and tailed this ”Han Xiaoqing,” who was much plainer than the real one.

Chen Nanyang took several photos from a distance. He hadn’t yet received Han Xiaorui’s official letter of authorization or the evidence held by the school, so he didn’t rush to find his uncle.

’It’s truly despicable!’

’Stealing someone’s spot at university is like stealing their entire life.’

’If Han Xiaoqing didn’t have a capable sister like Han Xiaorui, she might have been kept in the dark for the rest of her life.’

Ye Feng checked the time and decided to call Chen Nanyang’s home number. ”Lawyer Chen, I was on an assignment today. What did Xiao Rui need from you?”

Chen Nanyang was surprised to get a call from Ye Feng, especially when he heard him refer to Han Xiaorui as ”Xiao Rui.” ’There must be more to their relationship,’ he thought.

He’d had so many dealings with Han Xiaorui, but he was still addressing her as ”Ms. Han.”

’But now isn’t the time to dwell on such trivial matters. This case not only involves Shencheng but also Han Xiaorui’s hometown.’

’Ye Feng might have connections that extend to Guishi.’

Chen Nanyang kept it brief. ”...Right now, Xiao Rui wants to go to the police. She’s already taken a picture of the proof that her sister was accepted into the university—a promotional photo from the school. The picture has been entrusted to Comrade Wang Qiang for delivery to Shencheng. Once you get the photo and the letter of authorization, please bring them to me immediately.”

Hearing this, Ye Feng narrowed his eyes. ’Han Xiaorui and Han Xiaoqing could be in danger.’ ”Alright,” he said. ”I’ll bring the materials to you as soon as I receive them. Are you confident you can handle everything here in Shencheng?”

Chen Nanyang replied, ”I am. Are you planning to go to Guishi?”

Ye Feng thought for a moment. ”I just completed an assignment, and I haven’t taken any leave since I started this job. I’m planning to take two weeks off and go to Guishi. I’ll take care of things on that end.”

Hearing this, Chen Nanyang let out a long sigh of relief. ”Then this should be settled. I took a lot of photos of the fake Han Xiaoqing today. Later, once the case is officially filed, I’ll go to the post office to investigate the addresses on her correspondence and gather evidence...”

Ye Feng nodded. ”Good. I’ll call you when I get to Guishi so we can exchange information.”

The two men went their separate ways. Two days later, Ye Feng got a call telling him to come to the train station to pick something up.

Ye Feng immediately requested time off. Since things weren’t too busy lately, his superior approved it.

After all, Ye Feng had even worked through the New Year and never asked for a day off.

For him to ask for leave now, it had to be for something extremely urgent.

After getting the documents, Ye Feng went straight to Nanyang Law Firm.

In front of Chen Nanyang, he opened the manila envelope. Inside was a photo of the Yangkai High School honor roll.

Getting into a university, especially a prestigious one in Shencheng, was considered an incredible achievement at Yangkai High School.

The two sisters, four years apart, had both been admitted with the highest scores in the entire school.

The photos had been taken by the school for their exam admission tickets, so the school still had the negatives. They were simply enlarged, framed, and put on the honor roll.

As they looked at it, both Ye Feng and Chen Nanyang had complex expressions on their faces.

”To dare to steal the spot of the top student in the entire school... the mastermind must be powerful and influential,” Ye Feng said in a low voice. ”I’m taking a train to Guishi today. You should file the police report here.”

”Remember to collect the fake Han Xiaoqing’s homework and her final exam papers from last semester. We’ll need to compare the handwriting to the one on the college entrance exam later...”

Ye Feng told Chen Nanyang every detail he could think of.

Chen Nanyang, in turn, shared his own thoughts with Ye Feng, and by pooling their ideas, they refined their plan.

Ye Feng had someone buy him a ticket, and he boarded the train.

When he arrived in Guishi, Wang Qiang was there to pick him up. ”Captain, should I get my old man involved?”

Seeing his captain come in person, Wang Qiang knew that Han Xiaorui was special to him.

’She might have two daughters, but she’s a real looker!’

Ye Feng thought for a moment, then shook his head. ”No, that won’t be necessary. The fact that they could steal a university spot from the top-ranked student is proof enough of how brazen they are.”

”I’ll figure something out myself. For the next couple of days, though, I’ll need you to lend me a car so I can get around.”

Wang Qiang agreed. ”Sure. Should I call a few of our old army buddies for dinner tonight?”

”Sure!” Ye Feng agreed. Since he was already here, it wouldn’t be right not to see his old comrades.

Ye Feng called Chen Nanyang from the post office to ask for an update.

Chen Nanyang answered, ”Over here, I’ve filed the police report and a case has been opened. A covert investigation has begun. With the relevant school administrators and the Shencheng Education Committee as witnesses, the Public Security officers have already collected the fake Han Xiaoqing’s final exams from last semester for all subjects, as well as her regular homework assignments.”

”Also, we checked with the post office and found that her mailing address is the Yanggui Government Family Building. Our guess was correct...”

Ye Feng acknowledged. ”I’m in Guishi now. I’ll do some digging, and then I’ll file a report.”

’Looks like I’ll have to use the old man’s connections this time.’
