The Sea Queen of 1985

Chapter 56: Chapter 56: Red Ribbon Fish Bonanza

Seeing that Liang Xiaoyu had misunderstood, Han Xiaorui shook her head and smiled. ”There’s nothing I can’t talk about. I’m over Yang Jianming.”

”At first, it just hurt. After I got pregnant and had the children, Zhang Xiufang refused to help me during my postpartum confinement, so I had to take care of the kids all by myself.”

”It was my father-in-law who couldn’t stand it. He had the owner of a small restaurant near the seafood market make chicken soup and fish soup and send it to me. Sometimes he even washed Pingping and An’an’s diapers.”

”After that, I was busy raising the kids, my temper got shorter and shorter, and I became depressed. When Yang Jianming came home on the weekends, he’d complain that the children were too loud for him to sleep.”

”We hadn’t been intimate for a long time, and I didn’t want to be at all. I was sick of him and just couldn’t get interested. Later, as you know, he started messing around outside, which led to more arguments. We couldn’t stand the sight of each other.”

Liang Xiaoyu saw that Han Xiaorui could talk about her past heartbreaks with a smile, which meant she had truly let go.

”Xiao Rui, you just haven’t met the right person. You’re still young, and you have a long road ahead of you. You might just meet someone suitable, someone who makes you feel comfortable in both body and soul.”

Han Xiaorui had never been in a relationship. In the apocalypse, she was constantly thinking about how to survive, so how could she have had the mind to ponder such messy things?

”Honestly, right now I just want to raise my two children, find a good family for my little sister to marry into, and have her stay by my side. That would be enough.”

Liang Xiaoyu disagreed. ”Xiao Rui, we get along so well, and I think of you as a little sister, so let me give you some heartfelt advice.”

”You’re only 23 now, and your kids are already three. By the time they’re twenty, you’ll only be 43. Whether they go off to work or get married, they’re going to leave you.”

”Your little sister will have her own family and her own children too. When that time comes, you’ll be all alone. You can keep working, sure, but everyone’s human. There will be times when you feel lonely.”

”I’m not suggesting you just grab any random guy for the sake of having a man, but I do think that if you meet someone suitable, someone who makes your heart flutter, you shouldn’t close yourself off.”

Han Xiaorui was someone who listened to advice, and she felt that Liang Xiaoyu had a point.

They say a full belly and warm clothes lead to lustful thoughts. She was eating well, drinking well, and everything in her life was going well.

’Having lived two lives without ever being in a relationship... isn’t that a bit of a shame?’

’If I were to date someone, what kind of person would I look for?’

’This question is complicated. I’ll have to think about it slowly.’

”Sister-in-law Xiao Yu, thank you for telling me all this. I won’t force it, but I won’t reject it either,” Han Xiaorui said with a smile. ’Having lived two lives, I should at least try to get a taste of a ’male Bodhisattva’.’

”That’s the spirit!” Liang Xiaoyu raised an eyebrow. ”Speaking of which, if you find the right man, the feeling is even better than eating Tang Monk’s flesh!”

Han Xiaorui didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. Steering the boat with one hand, she wagged a finger with the other. ”I never knew you were this kind of Sister-in-law Xiao Yu! I really couldn’t tell!”

Liang Xiaoyu winked conspiratorially. ”We’re sisters, what can’t we talk about? A man, you gotta drain him dry. Otherwise, when he’s out and about and sees a pretty woman, he won’t be able to walk straight.”

Liang Xiaoyu’s barrage of comments was a real eye-opener for Han Xiaorui, making her laugh until her cheeks hurt.

Just then, Han Xiaorui spotted a foreign surveillance device below.

’I’d like to pretend I didn’t see it,’ she thought, ’but as a citizen of Hua Country, my conscience won’t let me.’

In the end, she decided to pull it up!

But before she did, she caught the nearby fish first!

”Sister-in-law Xiao Yu, I’m casting the net!” Han Xiaorui stopped the boat, grabbed the net, and began to cast it.

A full net, bright red and slender, came up. After untangling it, the fish tumbled onto the deck.

Liang Xiaoyu exclaimed again, ”Oh my goodness, thank you, Mazu! These are Red Ribbon Fish!”

Liang Xiaoyu quickly sorted them by size, placing them gently into baskets to preserve their condition.

Red Ribbon Fish are a type of deep-sea fish rich in fat, protein, and vitamin A. They can help replenish energy, provide nutrition, increase appetite, and promote the development of vision and brain nerves, as well as enhance memory.

Han Xiaorui grabbed a red flag and waved it, signaling for everyone to come over and fish quickly. There were truly too many.

She could never catch them all with just one net.

Wang Gensheng and the others saw the flag signal and quickly steered their boats over.

As veteran fishermen, they could tell they were the relatively rare Red Ribbon Fish even before they started fishing.

Without a second word, they immediately cast their nets.

Everyone gradually gathered around, fishing rapidly.

Uncle Hei and Xu Qiang weren’t about to be left behind. The sea was vast, and they could easily squeeze in anywhere.

They were all experienced old fishermen, and their movements were swift.

However, Han Xiaorui was controlling the school of fish, so she caught the most.

After more than twenty casts, she had hauled in over two thousand jin.

Her holds were full again!

With her final cast, Han Xiaorui hauled up the surveillance device.

”Sister-in-law Xiao Yu, I’ve caught a foreign surveillance device. We need to head back immediately.” Han Xiaorui started the boat right away, afraid that a foreign vessel might give chase.

Liang Xiaoyu was stunned. She recalled the public announcements that were usually made in the village. ”You’re right, we can’t delay. If we get caught by foreigners, we’ll be in big trouble.”

”Exactly.” Han Xiaorui steered her boat alongside Wang Gensheng’s. ”Uncle Gensheng, can you collect my 120 shrimp traps for me? I need to take this foreign surveillance device back first.”

Wang Gensheng saw the blue cylinder, over two meters long. His expression turned serious, and his voice was urgent. ”Alright, you should go. Go now. We’ll go get your shrimp traps. Don’t worry, you won’t be short a single lobster.”

”I’ll leave it to you then, thank you.” After speaking, Han Xiaorui went into the cabin, immediately started the boat, and accelerated as fast as she could, rushing toward the county pier.

Even though there were no foreign ships behind them, she couldn’t let her guard down.

When Han Xiaorui got hungry, Liang Xiaoyu took out a sesame flatbread and fed it to her.

Just like that, Han Xiaorui drove the boat for two and a half hours.

Boss Zhang saw Han Xiaorui arrive. ”No lobsters?”

Han Xiaorui smiled. ”The lobsters? I had someone else collect them for me. I caught a foreign surveillance device, so I need to go make a phone call. Sister-in-law Xiao Yu will keep an eye on things. You guys can start weighing the fish.”

Han Xiaorui went ashore, ran to a place where she could make a call, paid the fee, and dialed the number Ye Feng had given her last time.

Ye Feng had been investigating a leak recently. He had confirmed someone was leaking information, but he still hadn’t found the culprit.

He was feeling frustrated when the phone on his desk rang. He answered immediately. ”Hello, this is Ye Feng!”

”Hello, this is Han Xiaorui. I caught another foreign surveillance device. It’s at the county pier. You should bring some people to come get it. I still have to sell my fish, so that’s all, bye!”

Hearing the crisp click of the phone hanging up, Ye Feng was momentarily stunned, then he chuckled.

He immediately put on his hat and told Zhou Yang to drive them to the county pier.

When Han Xiaorui returned, the Red Ribbon Fish had already been weighed. ”Boss Zhang, Red Ribbon Fish. These are a rare deep-sea fish, not like the ordinary kind.”

Boss Zhang was already thrilled. This type of fish was exceptionally delicious and had no small bones in its flesh.

If a large restaurant had Red Ribbon Fish on the menu, business would surely boom.

”12 yuan for the large ones, 10 for the small.” Boss Zhang gave her a fair price right away. ”Little sister, you can ask around. No other wholesaler will give you a price like this.”
