The Sea Queen of 1985

Chapter 98: Chapter 98: A Calculated Plot, No Escape

Pingping and An’an followed their mother and aunt, eating their candy.

Han Xiaorui lowered her voice. ”Xiao Jing, I just went to the school and checked the honor roll. Your name was definitely there. What Teacher Zhou said was true—you got into college.”

”I’ve already called Ye Feng and Lawyer Chen. Lawyer Chen has taken the case. Plus, his uncle is on the Shencheng Education Committee. As long as we stay calm, we can win this.”

Hearing this, Han Xiaoqing’s nose tingled, and she felt a lump in her throat. ”Sis, I... am I really that useless?”

Han Xiaorui didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. She patted her sister’s back. ”Oh, you silly girl. You were just a student who focused only on your studies. How could you know how wicked people can be?”

”Besides, we have traitors in our own family. Your acceptance letter was sold by our own parents. It was a premeditated plot against someone unsuspecting, and they even had inside help. How could you possibly have outsmarted them?”

No one would have ever imagined that Han Dayong and Wang Cuilan would sell not only Han Xiaoqing’s college acceptance letter but also her personal identity documents, all for money.

Since there was no interconnected network back then, that person could use the ”Han Xiaoqing” identity to attend college, get an assigned job, get married, and have children.

If Han Xiaoqing had remained just a village girl, destined to suffer in the countryside her whole life, the truth might not have come out until the advent of the internet and a national network.

But even if the truth was revealed then, what good would it do?

By then she would be an old woman from the countryside with a family and children. The other party could probably just spend a little money to shut her entire family up.

Or, if they were more vicious, they might just find a chance to get rid of Han Xiaoqing to eliminate any future trouble.

Therefore, Han Xiaorui had to ensure Han Xiaoqing’s safety.

Han Xiaoqing didn’t know who had stolen her spot, so for now, she directed all her hatred toward her parents and Han Xiaoyuan.

Before, she had still thought about giving her parents money. After all, they had raised her.

After this whole affair was over, Han Xiaoqing swore she would never come back here again in her life.

Along the way, Han Xiaorui held her sister’s hand, silently giving her strength.

Seeing the two sisters’ displeased expressions, Wang Hongyu rolled her eyes. ”Han Xiaoyuan, your sisters are being mean to me. Are you just going to stand there and watch?”

Han Xiaoyuan glanced at his sisters, then back at Wang Hongyu, and said in a low voice, ”My sister married into a family in Shencheng. People there make dozens, even a hundred yuan a month.”

”Don’t make my sister angry. Otherwise, if she refuses to find jobs for your family later, don’t blame me for not warning you.”

Wang Hongyu, who had been about to throw a fit, immediately reined herself in. Getting a job was the most important thing.

’Didn’t I agree to be with an ugly guy like Han Xiaoyuan precisely for this reason?’

”Xiao Yuan, you’re so thoughtful. Actually, now that I think about it, your sisters have already spent a lot of money, several hundred yuan.”

”Some people don’t even spend this much on their entire wedding. Being with you, I’m sure I’ll live a comfortable life.”

Hearing Wang Hongyu’s sweet words, Han Xiaoyuan felt smug. ”Of course. I’m the man of the house. My parents said that a share of whatever my two sisters earn in the future belongs to me.”

”Go back and have a good talk with your parents. Don’t let them push my sisters too far. I’m their own brother, so they won’t stay mad at me, but they’ll inevitably take it out on your family.”

Wang Hongyu nodded and continued to sweet-talk Han Xiaoyuan. ”Xiao Yuan, you’re so smart. I’m no match for you. I’m so lucky to be with you. You dote on me the most. I definitely married the right person!”

A few words were all it took to make the useless Han Xiaoyuan feel like an omnipotent general.

Han Xiaorui pricked up her ears. Hearing the conversation between Wang Hongyu and Han Xiaoyuan, she let out a cold sneer.

’They want to go to Shencheng to work with me? Impossible.’

’I’d never bring these disasters to Shencheng just to cause more trouble for myself.’

Back at the house, when Wang Cuilan saw that Han Xiaorui had only bought a radio, she frowned. ”Where’s the television? Why didn’t you buy it?”

She had thought that once they had the household registration book, they’d be getting a television today. It turned out to be a moment of empty joy.

Han Xiaorui entered the house holding her child. ”I couldn’t find the right connection, and I didn’t have enough money anyway. We’re lucky I could even get a radio.”

”If you don’t like it, I’ll take it back. If you want a TV, go buy it yourselves.”

Wang Cuilan, annoyed that her eldest daughter was talking back, slapped Han Xiaorui’s arm. This daughter was born with a rebellious streak. ”Did you eat gunpowder or something? I say one thing, and you have a hundred waiting for me!”

Han Xiaoqing kept her head down and went straight into her room.

She was afraid she’d lose control of her emotions, start a fight with her parents, and blow their cover.

Han Xiaorui glanced at Wang Cuilan. ”We’re grown up now. You can’t treat us like you did when we were little.”

Seeing that Wang Cuilan was about to keep nagging, Han Dayong, also afraid of offending his two daughters, cut in, ”Alright, that’s enough. Hurry up and make dinner. After we eat, Xiao Yuan still has to take Hongyu home.”

Wang Cuilan grumbled, ”My life is so hard. I have to serve the old, and now I have to serve the young. And no one even thinks to help me cook.”

Han Xiaorui and Han Xiaoqing pretended not to hear. Wang Hongyu was even better at pretending, heading straight upstairs with Han Xiaoyuan to put the things they had bought in the newlyweds’ room.

Wang Hongyu wouldn’t come down to eat until the meal was ready.

’I’m the daughter-in-law. I married into this family to enjoy a good life and give the Han Family sons and daughters.’

’The Han Family’s own two daughters don’t cook, so why should I?’

Although Wang Cuilan kept muttering, her hands never stopped moving, and she quickly prepared the meal.

Because her daughter-in-law was present, today’s meal was a bit better than usual.

But at the dinner table, when Pingping and An’an reached for some meat, Wang Cuilan rapped their hands with her chopsticks. ”That’s for your uncle. Girls can’t eat that.”

Han Xiaoqing, who was already seething with anger, heard this and immediately picked up the platter. She served some meat to Pingping and An’an, put some in her sister’s bowl, and then dumped the rest into her own.

”It was one thing when we weren’t earning money. But now that we are, my sister and I send so much money home every month. Shouldn’t we be allowed to eat a little meat?”

Seeing her sister act this way, Han Xiaorui looked at her parents with a smirk. ”If you want me and Xiao Jing to keep sending you money every month, then don’t starve us like you did when we were children.”

Wang Cuilan was about to scold them, but Han Dayong stopped her. ”It was one thing when the family was poor. But now that our two daughters are successful and sending us money out of filial piety, you shouldn’t be so stingy.”

Wang Cuilan’s face turned red as she held back her anger. She grit her teeth and said awkwardly, ”I was just worried that the children are young and won’t be able to digest meat at night.”

”Besides, you took it all for yourselves. Why didn’t you leave any for Xiao Yuan and Hongyu?”

Han Xiaoyuan, remembering how much of his eldest sister’s money he had spent that day, smiled. ”Mom, let my sisters eat. Hongyu and I don’t need any. After all, it’s rare for my sisters to come back, and it’s Pingping and An’an’s first visit. As their uncle, I have to be a good host.”

Han Xiaorui kept her head down and ate, listening to Han Xiaoyuan’s words that were smoother than a song. ’His game has gotten a little better than before,’ she thought.

After dinner, the two sisters returned to their room.

Han Xiaorui noticed her bag had been disturbed and her heart sank. ”Our mom went through my bag. Xiao Jing, check if anything’s missing.”
