Chapter 207: Chapter 205: Finding a Fall Guy

[Brother Zhang, my hero!]

[He’s so right. Don’t ever get married just because your parents want you to.]

[But she’s already that age. If she doesn’t get married now, won’t she be too old?]

”I’m seeing some ladies in the chat saying that this caller is already 28. If she doesn’t get married now, it’ll be even harder for her later.”

”Yes, that’s right. That’s the reality of the situation.”

”The problem is, in her current state, forcing herself into a marriage would be pure torture—torture for her, and torture for the guy who marries her.”

”And let me say something blunt: this woman has been on dates with over 40 different guys. I’m sure more than one of them has given her feedback. But what’s the result? Has she changed one bit?”

”No,” the woman cut in. ”My philosophy is the same as it was on my very first blind date. I want to find a soulmate.”

”Then take your time finding one,” Zhang Zhe advised. ”First, figure out what your most important emotional needs are, and then search in that direction.”

”If you don’t have a clear direction, you’ll never find someone who satisfies you.”

”Mhm.” The woman frowned and sighed silently. It seemed Zhang Zhe’s words had finally made her start to think seriously.

...

”Brother Zhang, why are you being so nice to this woman?”

Zhang Zhe looked at the bullet comments and thought back for a moment.

”Ladies, you call this being nice? Have you never run into a real simp before?”

”With an attitude like mine, I get dragged online all the time.”

”Of course, I’m usually a bit nicer to women who are willing to turn on their cameras when they call in. I even give them an extra 0.5 points when I’m rating their looks, just as a little bonus.”

”After all, we’re on a live call. If you’re willing to turn on your camera, it makes it more immersive for me.”

Perhaps after hearing what Zhang Zhe said, the next woman who called in also turned on her camera.

”Good evening, Brother Zhang.”

”Hey, sis, you’re keeping it a little too real. You came on without any makeup?”

Zhang Zhe was a bit stunned when he saw her face.

She was such a plain-looking girl, a stark contrast to the previous caller with the false eyelashes.

”It’s fine. Without makeup, people around me won’t even recognize me.”

”Hahaha, fair enough.”

Zhang Zhe nodded. His first impression of this woman was excellent.

The chat was filled with comments saying she seemed like the ”virtuous wife and good mother” type—the kind of girl you could build a life with.

”Go ahead and introduce yourself.”

”Alrighty. I’m from Taiyuan, but I’m currently living in Yanjing.”

”I was born in ’98, I’m 162 cm tall, and I weigh 40 kilograms. I’m a bit thin, almost malnourished, but I’m pretty healthy.”

”I used to be a client manager at a bank, but I’ve struck out on my own now. I’m still in the finance industry, just not at a bank anymore.”

”A client manager at a bank?” Zhang Zhe frowned slightly. ”A major accounts manager, or just a regular one?”

The difference between the two was huge. It wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say they belonged to different social classes.

”I mainly handled B2B business, so I guess you could call me a major accounts manager.”

”It’s because my dad is a very successful businessman. His annual income is around 10 million, so he has some social connections that can help me out.”

”...” Zhang Zhe was surprised. ”With a dad like that, you still have to work? You’re too hardworking.”

”Are you an only child?”

”I am. But my dad only got rich in the last couple of years. Our family didn’t have much money before that. It was mainly my maternal grandparents who had the resources.”

”They were the ones who supported me when I studied abroad.”

[Studied abroad? That’s a 10-point deduction.]

[Ask which school first. Don’t be so quick to deduct points. The school matters when you study abroad.]

[It’s normal for rich people to send their kids to study abroad. No need to get caught in the domestic rat race.]

”Where did you study abroad? Did you major in finance?”

Being from a wealthy family, going abroad to get some finance-related degree, then coming back and using connections to get a job at a bank—countless people had walked that path.

Zhang Zhe was no longer surprised by it.

He was just asking as a matter of formality.

But the woman’s answer was rather impressive:

”I earned a dual bachelor’s degree in finance and economics from the University of Toronto. I got into a master’s program, but I came back to the country because of the pandemic, so I didn’t end up doing my graduate studies.”

”Since I graduated from a school in the QS top 30, it was still pretty easy to find a job.”

”Sis, I have nothing against students who’ve studied abroad, but look at the chat. They’re all asking if you were wild over there.”

”Not at all,” the woman said, shaking her head. ”I’ve only ever had one relationship. It lasted for quite a while, but we eventually decided we weren’t a good fit and broke up. It was an amicable split.”

”There’s no truth to the idea that I partied hard or anything.”

”But I do have one major shortcoming: I have a tattoo.”

[Well, that’s a deal-breaker.]

[Holy crap, why would someone from a family like that get a tattoo?]

[An only daughter from a family worth tens of millions, but because of a tattoo, guys on her level definitely won’t go for her.]

[She says one relationship, but who can guarantee that?]

At first glance, Zhang Zhe had thought she was quite simple and modest.

But when he heard her father earned 10 million a year, something started to feel off.

Her appearance didn’t fit the stereotype of a rich, second-generation girl.

After hearing about her ”studying abroad + tattoo,” his impression of her plummeted to rock bottom.

Now, when Zhang Zhe looked at her, he no longer saw a well-behaved girl. Instead, she seemed like someone who had partied herself out and couldn’t be bothered to look polished anymore, or maybe she was just putting on a ”good girl” act for her family.

However, out of a sense of responsibility to his caller, he still asked:

”Miss, what is your tattoo of?”

”Are you comfortable sharing?”

”It’s a string of English letters. I’d rather not say what it is exactly. It’s on my collarbone.”

”Then it’s hopeless,” Zhang Zhe said, waving his hand dismissively. ”You won’t even be able to wear a low-cut dress to any slightly upscale event.”

”Young lady, you need to date down.”

”You’ve basically lost the ability to date up or even find a partner within your own social class. I know a few rich kids with tattoos. They either end up with someone far beneath them, using money to shut people up...”

”...or they find someone who also has tattoos.”

”Would your parents be okay with you finding a guy from a similar family background who has a full sleeve or a giant koi fish tattooed on his back?”

”Probably not,” the woman replied, shaking her head with a pained expression. ”My parents aren’t happy about my tattoo, and neither are my grandparents.”

”Don’t worry, that just means your parents are normal people.”

”But speaking of which, haven’t your parents tried to set you up with anyone?”

”My mom doesn’t want to get involved. She told me to find someone myself.”

”Alright, I get it,” Zhang Zhe nodded.

’A family worth tens of millions, and the parents aren’t willing to introduce their daughter to potential partners? Especially when she’s ready to get married. This must mean her reputation isn’t very good. So bad that even her parents feel she’s too embarrassing to present to others. Otherwise, for a boss with an annual income in the tens of millions and an only daughter, there would absolutely be a line of people trying to get with her.’

[High-Value Intel]

[Your matchmaking target, Kong Yiweng, lived with her boyfriend for many years while studying abroad. She has several matching couple’s tattoos with him. However, they were forced to break up amicably due to the gap in their family backgrounds. Host, please be cautious about taking her on.]

After reading the intel, Zhang Zhe knew his judgment had been correct.

’She probably has her ex-boyfriend’s name tattooed on her.’

In a situation like this, if she and her ex had a bad breakup and never spoke again, that would be one thing. The real danger was a ”peaceful breakup,” because they could get back together at any moment.

After all, she’d see his name on her body every time she looked in the mirror.

But even so, Zhang Zhe’s analysis was still sound.

Because some guys who are willing to be the next man in line don’t care about any of that. As long as the woman’s family is rich, they’ll just jump in and say, ”She’s a prize! I’m in!”
