The hall suddenly quietened down.

Only the eyes of the little girl called Elsa suddenly lit up.

...

Luo Hao sat in front of the computer, shaking his well-over-a-hundred-pounds of fat, sighing heavily.

He was counting on his fingers how many days he had left to live, but he could never figure it out. Unable to help himself, he became even more gloomy.

Becoming a Chosen was a great honor for most people.

But not for some.

Six years ago, three stowaways died on the other side of the Stargate for illegally using it. This incident was exposed by a worker at the Stargate Port, causing a huge uproar and eventually leading to the infamous July Incident scandal.

It was the first time the public knew that humans could die on the other side of the Stargate, in that world called Eteliria.

Although, for the most part, due to deliberate propaganda and downplaying by governments, the controversy soon passed, it still left a profound impact.

One of which was the creation of an official tourism channel, which has now become a major self-sustaining revenue stream for the Stargate Port.

Most people thus believe that this bad incident had a rather good outcome, firstly promoting the enhancement of citizens’ rights and secondly further regularizing the entire Chosen industry.

But among a minority, there are some more sensational opinions.

”There are three deaths you can’t cover up; God knows how many truly died, governments are always unscrupulous in such matters.”

”If it wasn’t for that worker, maybe we’d still be in the dark.”

”The government must be held accountable.”

”Close the Stargate, it’s a trap set by a higher-dimensional civilization—”

Luo Hao certainly does not support closing the Stargate, but he firmly supports the previous statements.

He had recently joined a group called ”The Truth You Don’t Know”—where people constantly discussed how governments deceive the public and hide the true facts.

There were even claims by someone who said he was also a worker at the Starport, having personally participated in transporting bodies—covering an entire layer outside the Stargate.

Luo Hao believed this without a doubt.

Although that group later caught the attention of the cyber police and was forced to disband, and he was even summoned to the police station for a chat, luckily nothing serious happened, but from then on, Luo Hao became even more cautious.

In any case, he personally kept his distance from the Chosen profession.

But that doesn’t mean he isn’t familiar with Eteliria.

In fact, quite the contrary—

He was a gaming enthusiast, his interest stretching from virtual games to the New World. He followed many ’broadcasters’, including some top Chosen in the second world, and was very keen on the competition between countries, knowing the details of several major wars over the years.

He was also a staunch fan and supporter of the BBK Guild, with a cabinet full of related merchandise and guild posters.

Of course, his love for the world of the Chosen was limited to this. To put it bluntly, he preferred watching others fight in that world rather than participating himself.

But fate is unpredictable.

He never expected that his father, who had high hopes for him, actually pulled some strings to secure him a spot in the Chosen training program.

That day, when his father announced this ’birthday gift’ at his birthday party, everyone applauded enviously, except for Luo Hao, who almost cried out loud.

That day, he realized one thing.

Sometimes, having a wealthy father is not a perfect thing.

He didn’t want to be a Chosen—of course, nor did he want to face a military court. It was said that the military treated those who refused training like those who refused military service, and even if he survived, he would likely suffer greatly.

He was afraid of death, and not a reptile, so after much deliberation— he could only take one step at a time.

Only fifteen days left.

Luo Hao sighed deeply and turned on the computer.

He wanted to see if there was anything of interest to distract him; otherwise, if this continued, he really might die of nervous breakdown. Unfortunately, Chosen are not really internet broadcasters, and they hardly broadcast live, usually only doing so occasionally at the request of the club.

The top Chosen were even more so.

Recently, some of the younger generation of Chosen had started to break away from the old ways and began to actively promote themselves, but Luo Hao didn’t think much of them—according to his own words, they broadcast all day, lacking professional ethics.

So this person may just be the legendary masochist.

He first checked the few channels he regularly followed and, not finding any familiar IDs, felt somewhat disappointed. Then he smoothly navigated to the Eteliria United Community.

The Eteliria United Community is a semi-official large community related to the New World, divided into over a dozen areas, each basically representing a competition region, with China being a separate competition region.

Although Luo Hao had zero actual experience, years of immersion had made him something of a theoretical master, and his ID was also well-known in the United Community.

But today, as soon as he opened the posts, his expression darkened. It turned out that most of the posts were discussing the tragic defeat of China’s three major guilds in the Murky Lands.
