Pillar of Yita

A typical fairy.

But Fang Hong had never seen such a quiet fairy, one that wasn’t noisy at all.

”You are... a Dragon Soul?” Fang Hong asked her uncertainly.

Tata nodded slightly, her voice like lukewarm water, neither salty nor bland, so soothing it was unbearable. ”I am the Artificial Dragon Soul of the Silver Tower, you are my second master.”

Fang Hong’s heart stirred. ”Can you remember anything about your previous master?”

But Tata shook her head. ”I only know this.”

Fang Hong was somewhat disappointed, though he didn’t know why he felt that way. Yet he also felt a touch of embarrassment, as if he had intruded on Miya’s privacy.

”Would you like me to explain it to you, respected Mr. Knight?”

”Explain?” Fang Hong came back to his senses, ”Are you talking about the system? No need.” He shook his head.

He had long been intimately familiar with the Summoners System and, naturally, the Dragon Knight System it emulated. Although it was an advanced version, the difference was not substantial.

He looked at his interface, feeling quite emotional inside; he hadn’t expected that half a year into this world, he would be seeing his Invoker data for the first time.

His first thought was: the basic data is quite average.

The standard for an ordinary person in this world would probably be an all-around [F] rating, but his physical attributes didn’t even reach that, with only his intellectual attributes being the exception, even achieving an [F++].

That might be related to his learning experiences over the past six months, and intelligence was indeed one of the main attributes for an Alchemist.

Each of the Summoners System’s ratings wasn’t singular; it typically comprised a long list of data. For instance, the strength rating included combat bearing, load-bearing, burst strength, melee hit modifier, and physical damage modifier.

Combat bearing mainly refers to the equipment, weapons, and other Magic Guided Devices that an Invoker can carry over a long period of combat. This is an average, where the weapon load accounts for about one-fourth. The Type Seven Firearm he had used before weighed just over three kilograms, which was just within his load-bearing range.

Together with the various Alchemy devices on him and the weight of the Magic Guided Reactor itself, it nearly reached the load-bearing threshold of fifteen kilograms. Subsequent load-bearing is inclusive of the primary load-bearing, and the two do not stack.

As for physical fitness and agility—in this era, Earth naturally had its share of virtual games related to the New World, meant to provide entertainment for ordinary people. But unlike those games, in the real New World, physical fitness had almost nothing to do with life force.

Although they did offer a very small bonus, a front-line Invoker in the second world only had a little over a hundred life points. If Fang Hong could hit his actual body with a Type Seven Firearm, it would only take three or four shots.

And Fang Hong was but a newcomer, and the Type Seven Firearm was already an antique from the Lion War era.

In fact, the real guarantee for the survival of top Invokers in this world mainly came from four attributes: armor, evasion value, block value, and shield value. The latter mostly stemmed from the Magic Guided Reactor because the Shield Generator requires a stable operating environment, usually only equipped by non-combatant Scholars, Sages, Magic Guided Conductors, and Healers.

While shields have many limitations, their advantage is that they are always active, unlike evasion and block which are more unstable.

Of course, the last two also have their merits. In Eteliria, evasion value is basically equivalent to life points; damage is offset by it. Before evasion value is depleted, an Invoker’s instinct will allow him to dodge nearly all forms of damage—as long as he perceives the attack in advance.

Evasion doesn’t result in the problem of sustaining impact forces, unlike block and shield, both of which absorb some shock, especially the former, which, before learning high-level shock-absorbing skills, results in excess damage exceeding forty percent from impact forces.

However, evasion’s sole issue is that it consumes too much physical energy and recharges too slowly in combat—this is greatly related to the balance attribute, far inferior to block.

Therefore, only Invokers of the Agility System generally consider delving further into this path.

As for Strength System Invokers, they usually favor block—although it can’t completely negate damage and has many issues, like being powerless against Magic Guided Magic, leveraged by high physical fitness for high resistance, they can effectively reduce excess damage from impact forces.

Not to mention that most of the Strength Invokers tend to be heavy-armored units, gaining an extra layer of protection from their armor.

In summary, armor, shields, and evasion do not have a perfect choice, and it’s even said that some people have dabbled in all of them. Fang Hong happens to know one of the top figures.

Chairman Rashen of the Tip of Thebes.

As for Fang Hong himself, he didn’t have the luxury to consider so much.

He had lost his Magic Guided Reactor and could only fight unshielded—for now, his fifty-some evasion points were simply insufficient. After all, evasion and block values not only receive general damage but also endure extra damage from accuracy modifiers.

After the light on the crystal faded, a man and a fairy stood quietly in the darkness, with Fang Hong silent, and so was Tata.

As if it was only natural.

Yet in Fang Hong’s eyes, there was still light, reflecting the bright splendor from the pages.

He only glanced at his Invoker panel, his gaze lingering on the Talent (Twin Stars); this was the Dragon Soul Talent— a unique ability held by all Dragon Knights, also a benefit from the superior Dragon Knight System.
