Chapter 301: Chapter 310: The Unavoidable Retreat

After meeting Luo Ping, Chu Linfeng and Meng Ji informed him about the Heaven-shattering Thunder in possession of the Sea Dragon Empire. Hearing this, Luo Ping was so shocked that his face turned pale.

”Is that Heaven-shattering Thunder really as powerful as you described?” Luo Ping’s heart was already convinced, but he still didn’t want to accept it, so he asked.

”Whether or not it’s that powerful, the Grand General can try it to find out. I have said all I can; whether you believe it or not is up to you. Additionally, Meng Ji and I have to handle a secret matter these two days, and we’ll definitely give you a surprise when we return,” said Chu Linfeng.

Luo Ping showed a troubled expression, looking at Chu Linfeng and Meng Ji, and said, ”I naturally believe you, but there’s at most two hours before dawn. It’s impossible to withdraw the army back into the city by then. Besides, doing so would greatly affect the morale. I truly don’t know how to handle this. Do you have any ideas, Chu Linfeng?”

Luo Ping looked at Chu Linfeng with great expectation, as this was a truly significant matter. Chu Linfeng shook his head and said, ”This is the only way. If you order a retreat now, you might still preserve more than half of your forces. If you don’t retreat now, you might lose most of them, and the city might fall without a fight.”

Meng Ji then said, ”Lin Feng is right. You can withdraw half of the forces back to the city and let the other half hold off the enemy. We just need to hold them off for two days, and we’ll arrive by then. Additionally, try to spread the soldiers’ distance from each other as much as possible to reduce unnecessary casualties.

If everyone carries a water bag, it might further reduce casualties. The explosion of the Heaven-shattering Thunder is powerful but can only kill within a ten-meter radius. However, the explosion will result in many flying flames, and these flames are its real weapon. These flames are refined from a black, oily substance from underground.

The temperature from the flames is extremely high, comparable to fire. If you have a water bag, you can lower its temperature when catching fire, and some might even survive.”

Upon hearing this, Luo Ping furrowed his brows, sighed deeply, and said, ”Alright, I’ll follow your advice. Let as many people as possible enter the city, but I wonder why we have to delay for two days. What on earth are you going to do?”

”We are going to get the Heaven-shattering Thunder. This must remain confidential. When we return, it’ll be time for the enemy to taste their own weapon. By then, the army will emerge from the gates, and we will definitely defeat them. After all, the opponent has no city to hide in. We must insist on lasting for two days,” said Chu Linfeng.

”Fine, I believe we can hold on for two days. Time is of the essence. I’m going to withdraw the army now. I wish you good luck with everything,” said Luo Ping.

”We must depart as well. Do not inform Wei Qun so he doesn’t worry. Protect this brother for me,” Chu Linfeng said before departing with Meng Ji.

Luo Ping then ordered the complete withdrawal of the three armies outside the city.

Meanwhile, in the Sea Dragon Empire’s marshal’s tent, an informant was reporting the news of the Celestial Dragon Army’s withdrawal to the city.

Yun Feiqing looked at Wu Yuetian with a stern expression and said, ”Second brother, why is Luo Ping acting this way? Did he figure out our intention or know about our Heaven-shattering Thunder?”

”Big brother, you’re overthinking. Luo Ping’s actions are essentially driving the soldiers of the Celestial Dragon Empire to death. The remaining ones can be entirely slaughtered by us, leaving his forces negligible.

If he didn’t recall the army, although our Heaven-shattering Thunder has immense lethality, it would at most kill tens of thousands. They have enough strength to fight us. If we now eliminate the remaining forces outside the city, you understand the consequences,” said Wu Yuetian.

Yun Feiqing thought for a moment and felt Wu Yuetian’s analysis was reasonable, so he smiled and said, ”Fine, since Luo Ping did this, we’ll ensure he regrets it for a lifetime. The Celestial Dragon Empire will cease to exist. Pass my order! The army should advance with full force now, ensuring we reach five hundred meters from their city before dawn.”

The people on the Celestial Dragon side didn’t understand why the already deployed army was ordered back to the city urgently, leaving everyone puzzled.

In order to get more people into the city, Luo Ping ordered all those in the Celestial Martial Realm to fly back into the city with those outside, simultaneously setting up ladders on the city walls to minimize casualties.

After dawn, he surprisingly managed to withdraw over seven hundred thousand troops back, leaving only over two hundred thousand outside. If Chu Linfeng knew he achieved this, he would surely be astonished.

The remaining two hundred thousand troops received twenty thousand water bags, as distributed from the city walls. Chu Linfeng’s instructions on the Heaven-shattering Thunder’s power and post-explosion scenarios were conveyed to the generals, who then relayed them to the Ten Thousand Commanders, Centurions, and finally, every soldier still outside the city.

Upon hearing this, the soldiers did not blame Luo Ping. They understood that there wasn’t enough time to enter the city, not that the Grand General intended for them to be sacrificial pawns. To die for the Empire was an infinitely glorious act. Each soldier instead felt more motivated, thinking that if they were to die, they would at least take down an enemy soldier with them.

As daylight broke, war drums and horns sounded from the enemy’s side, with various siege weapons appearing beyond the range of flying arrows from the Sea Dragon Army.

Among them were two rather peculiar objects mounted on large war chariots, featuring a one-meter diameter circular tube on top, inspiring a sense of mystery.

Seeing this from the city wall, Luo Ping couldn’t help but say, ”Could that be the equipment to launch the Heaven-shattering Thunder? It truly is a secret weapon.”

Just then, a soldier below the city saw the enemy approaching and suddenly shouted, ”You bastards! I’ll fight you to the death!” The voice was very loud, clearly showing this soldier was quite skilled.

Perhaps hearing his shout, other soldiers, already highly agitated, seemed eager to rush forward and slay the enemy.

Leading the twenty thousand soldiers was General Nangong, a fiery-tempered person. Seeing the soldiers eager to advance, he shouted, ”Heroes of the Celestial Dragon Empire, charge!”

With his voice’s fall, resounding roars erupted, and the soldiers separated, wielding their weapons as they rushed toward the enemy forces.

The Sea Dragon Empire’s soldiers, seeing the enemy charging, were equally excited. A middle-aged man in golden armor shouted, ”Deploy the secret weapon, let those Celestial Dragon bastards taste our power!”

Immediately, several large fireball-like objects were launched from the massive black iron tubes on the chariots, swiftly falling toward the charging Celestial Dragon soldiers...
