From BOSS to Canon Fodder: She is Currently Out of Service!

Zhu Mengtong nodded, aware that Su Jiameng’s amnesia wasn’t a secret. Of course, she leaned more towards the notion that the other party was lying. If it were true amnesia, modern medicine would have identified it by now. As for why Su Jiameng was lying, perhaps the truth would surface soon.

”Earlier, when I sensed Mrs. Liu’s anger, the spiritual power she leaked always gave an indescribable feeling of suppression...” Su Jiameng pondered aloud, turning to Su Yanjing for confirmation, ”Mr. Su, did you feel the same?”

Su Yanjing, being an honest person, and given that there was no reason to lie about this matter, replied, ”Indeed, there was such a moment.”

A glint flashed in Zhu Mengtong’s eyes; she naturally understood what that so-called ”suppressed spiritual power” entailed.

Although the focus of the Simoles Deficiency Syndrome had been forcibly sealed, it continued to grow at a certain rate. If her emotions became unstable, leakage was likely to occur. Even the research fanatic Qiu Yexuan couldn’t fully explain this phenomenon, only advising her to control her temper and avoid major emotional fluctuations to live a slightly longer life...

Facing this cruel reality, Zhu Mengtong felt utterly powerless, as if the heavens were playing one joke after another on her, cornering her with no end in sight... Reflecting carefully, that end might be the day of her death.

Su Jiameng continued, ”Although I lack this memory, I vaguely feel that it might not be as Mrs. Liu thinks...”

Zhu Mengtong’s expression changed, temporarily unable to decipher what the other was conveying. Su Jiameng had no hope that the other party would readily believe her; that would be too far-fetched. Besides, producing solid evidence would inevitably expose herself, and she wasn’t that careless.

However, she still had to say what needed to be said, ”This might not be a deadly disease, but rather an ability... An ability that is extremely terrifying to most people. If given enough opportunity, Mrs. Liu might be able to understand the truth...”

A terrifying ability? Referring to the Simoles Deficiency Syndrome? Zhu Mengtong found the statement absurd and laughable. Yet, seeing Su Jiameng’s earnest tone and expression, she found herself momentarily speechless.

In truth, Zhu Mengtong hoped what the other person said was true, that she wasn’t just unlucky. Haha, but who could be unluckier than her? Her life hadn’t even reached its prime before she was waiting to succumb to death.

However, reality is reality. Even the most beautiful wishes shatter like glass under the hammer of reality.

”Thanks for your kind words.” Zhu Mengtong said with a faint smile, her tone unchanged, as if she weren’t discussing her own situation.

Though Su Jiameng had anticipated this reaction, witnessing it still left her somewhat disappointed. ”To be honest, it was presumptuous of me. As I speak these unfounded words, I offer a hope without light, and the greater the hope, the greater the disappointment...”

”It doesn’t matter.” Zhu Mengtong naturally wouldn’t be upset. She had recently been cultivating herself to calm her nature down, ensuring there were no strong emotional fluctuations over anything. ”After all, Miss Su means well. If there truly is a silver lining, maybe I’ll indeed have this opportunity, to turn a dire situation into a spectacular turnaround...”

The two talked for a while longer before Zhu Mengtong logged off. Though the syndrome’s focus was sealed and occasional forays on the virtual network weren’t a problem, prolonged exposure depleted her spiritual power significantly. Besides, her spouse was coming home from work, and she’d be in trouble if caught online.

Watching Zhu Mengtong leave, Su Yanjing was lost in thought for a long time before asking in confusion, ”Not a disease... but an ability?”

He naturally knew what disease Su Jiameng was referring to, the Simoles Deficiency Syndrome! Despite advancements in technology, this disease, with its unknown primary causes, remained untreatable. And now, someone was telling him it wasn’t a deadly disease but an ominous, mysterious power? Anyone else making such a claim would find it unbelievable, but... the one speaking was Su Jiameng!

”Yes, it is indeed an ability...” Su Jiameng regained a calm demeanor, meeting Su Yanjing’s gaze, and said, ”My memory tells me that those who can wield such power... are extremely terrifying.”

Su Yanjing admitted he had never heard such news before, prompting Su Jiameng to smile and retort, ”You sensed it, right, the oppressive feeling Mrs. Liu’s spiritual power gave others?”

”Of course I felt it...” Su Yanjing was at a loss, hadn’t they already gone over this question?

”But you didn’t feel it keenly. The essence of this spiritual oppression... isn’t just about feeling uneasy; it’s about the opponent obstructing your own spiritual power!” Su Jiameng revealed the truth, ”This is merely the tip of the iceberg of the leak. Imagine, if the ability were fully developed and completely mastered... have you ever considered how terrifying it would be if this obstruction ability were amplified a hundred, thousand, or even ten thousand times over?”

Su Yanjing and Zhu Mengtong’s identities were different, so there were things that could be analyzed for Su Yanjing but couldn’t be straightforwardly conveyed to Zhu Mengtong.

In this regard, Su Jiameng was well aware.

Hearing Su Jiameng’s words, Su Yanjing felt as if he had glimpsed a completely different door laced with a sense of taboo, an area where any heedless contact would result in destruction, yet... it was also filled with infinite temptation.

If... this ability to ”obstruct” others’ spiritual power could indeed be controlled and magnified immensely... Su Yanjing silently gasped! This would mean that no one could exert even the slightest spiritual power in front of the person wielding such power!

Even basic actions would be reduced to a terrifying degree, rendering one a helpless lamb to the slaughter! (To be continued. If you like this work, you are welcome to vote for it on Qidian (qidian.com), and your support is my greatest motivation. Mobile users please read at m.qidian.com.)
