From BOSS to Canon Fodder: She is Currently Out of Service!

The existence of a second personality is something only Gu Ningxuan knows, and in fact, realizing the other’s existence was purely coincidental. As a child, Gu Ningxuan was exhausted from prolonged, intensive training, and he yearned deeply for freedom and playmates.

After one training session, he fell into a deep sleep and then encountered another self hidden within his mind in this place.

At the time, Gu Ningxuan didn’t know this was a second personality formed from his deep inner desires; he thought of him as a little companion and naturally let his guard down. Then, he noticed an increase in strange occurrences around him. Many mischievous deeds he clearly hadn’t done, yet his family would punish and scold him because of those pranks. Once or twice was fine, but after it happened frequently, he started to realize something was off.

Naturally, Gu Ningxuan went to question the other, and what followed was an inevitable confrontation. Learning that he was another, completely opposite personality of himself left the young Gu Ningxuan astonished and frightened. He wanted to share this secret with others, but he knew that speaking out wouldn’t be beneficial. This kind of personality split wasn’t the ”schizophrenia” of the Earth Era, but involved spiritual power...

Though young at the time, he knew this wasn’t an ordinary matter; it was quite serious! Moreover, the other had said that they were essentially one person, both carrying the same memories. If it were treated as a regular split personality disorder, and one personality was eradicated, the whole individual would face mental collapse—at best, becoming demented and foolish, and at worst, spiritual power dead, becoming a vegetable!

Gu Ningxuan couldn’t do anything about the other, because as the other had said, they were actually one person, and harming the other would be harming himself. They weren’t truly two independent personalities, but one person with two different temperaments.

Gu Ningxuan was the main personality, while the other guy was the secondary one, but sometimes their roles could swap, leading the other to venture out and cause trouble. Like last time, the other casually drank a dubious beverage, putting the main personality, Gu Ningxuan, in a tough spot.

After many discoveries and research, Gu Ningxuan roughly understood under what circumstances the other could break out... It was when the other’s power surpassed his own. Looking at his hands, Gu Ningxuan couldn’t help but feel dejected. When at the Gu Family, he could barely suppress the other, but now the other could break out so easily... Was it because he had progressed too little, or the other too much?

No matter how fervently Gu Ningxuan wished internally, hoping the other wouldn’t cause trouble, the successfully ”escaped” secondary personality of Gu Ningxuan had already awoken. He moved his hands, savoring the real sensation he dearly missed.

He narcissistically admired himself in the mirror, showing a radiant but roguish smile. ”Gu Ningxuan” contentedly stretched his hands and rubbed his cheeks, complaining slightly, ”Tsk tsk tsk, what a good-looking face, utterly wasted by that guy, always keeping a stiff face. The facial muscles must be getting rigid...”

Checking the time, ”Gu Ningxuan” raised his hand to look at the schedule on his smart brain. Uh oh, still half an hour until off work.

Nonchalantly slinging the coat over his shoulder, he hummed a military tune gone awry, planning to skip work. His time out was limited, and the main personality wasn’t easygoing. If pushed too hard, self-harm might ensue, benefiting no one. Half an hour was still time, after all; he didn’t want to waste it... With that thought, his resolve to leave work early strengthened.

Yet, the world never lacks obstacles. Guan Changxi came by to check the store and discovered ”Gu Ningxuan” about to walk out. He frowned and said, ”What’s Mr. Gu up to? I think there are still thirty-four minutes until you finish work?”

Normally, Gu Ningxuan was punctual, even bidding goodbye when leaving early. Now, his attitude... Something about his style seemed a bit off! Guan Changxi pondered, but didn’t dwell on it.

Hearing this voice, ”Gu Ningxuan” stiffened, and his smile immediately froze, then tightened, adopting the signature expression of the genuine Gu Ningxuan—an impassive face. Turning to Guan Changxi, he said, ”Out to buy some things, very urgent.”

Guan Changxi, not an unreasonable robot, nodded and said, ”In that case, Mr. Gu, do come back early and be careful on the road.”

Once ”Gu Ningxuan” had disappeared from view, Guan Changxi finally sensed something amiss, silently thinking, ”Something’s not right. That guy just received his salary. Does he have Credit Points now? I tricked him before, and he’d have to wait until next month to receive his wages...”
