Cultivation is just so scientific!

Chapter 148: Chapter 120: Chip (Extra for book friend 171021102948988)_2

Li Shiming thought to himself that if he could arrange his own Gathering Spirit Array soon, his cultivation efficiency would improve even further. Although there were upper limits, even a 0.1 increase per cultivation session accumulated significantly over time.

The next day, through his Identity Jade Disc, Li Shiming exchanged for Storage Spirit Runes, Acceleration Runes, Solidifying Runes, Sharpness Runes, Flame Runes, and Frost Runes. It wasn’t that he didn’t want to exchange more, but his good deeds were running low.

With the remaining good deeds, he exchanged for a special formation named the Cloud-shocking Thunder Formation.

The Cloud-shocking Thunder Formation was the only thunder and lightning type formation he found among the formations available for exchange.

Because thunder and lightning type formations possess high burst attack power and are naturally effective against Demon Cultivation Techniques, they are extremely popular.

However, the issue with thunder and lightning type formations was that they had a significant flaw: the thunder and lightning in the formation were not generated without cause; it required the condensation of thunderclouds in the sky before heavenly thunder would fall.

Any cultivator who saw thunderclouds suddenly appearing in the sky would stay alert, making it difficult to trap them in a thunder and lightning type formation.

Furthermore, the Cloud-shocking Thunder Formation required too long to gather clouds, making this knowledge of the thunder and lightning formation exceptionally cheap and somewhat impractical.

Learning these runes was unproblematic. On this matter, Li Shiming, having memories from a previous life and the support of IBMz15, found it easier to perceive true meanings the first time he encountered spells.

His learning of spell runes was not for the purpose of making magic artifacts, not least because he lacked the energy for it at the moment.

Even with the help of IBMz15, his time and energy each day were limited.

It’s worth mentioning another advantage of Spiritual Thought: having cultivated Ice Heart Jade Thought Technique and nurtured his Spiritual Thought, his spirit would fully recover. Moreover, practicing Five Elements Qi Absorption Technique aided in his physical recovery, meaning he no longer needed sleep to restore his spirit and body.

This meant he could almost, like a Foundation Establishment Cultivator, go without rest for at least a month.

This allowed him more time each day, and naturally, the things he learned also increased.

As time passed, after several days’ efforts, what he referred to as his “industrial mother machine” was finally completed.

The entire machine was endowed with “Solidifying Runes”, giving it stability far surpassing that of previous designs.

The machine’s cutter head made use of a Low Grade Magical Artifact, personally enchanted by Li Shiming with Storage Spirit Runes, Solidifying Runes, and Sharpness Runes, and connected to a small Spiritual Power Pattern that continuously replenished the power inside the Storage Spirit Rune.

The cutting power of the machine, for worldly metals, was formidable.

The machine’s power was supplied by the Cloud-shocking Thunder Formation, with the power of thunder and lightning generated by the formation being converted into a stable electric current through a newly made power converter, then stored in a battery before connecting to the machine.

The Cloud-shocking Thunder Formation consumed Spirit Stones, and as long as the Spirit Stones were sufficient, it could generate an unending supply of electricity, with the amount adjustable by expanding the size of the formation.

Of course, the Cloud-shocking Thunder Formation needed to be activated ten minutes in advance in order to continuously generate power, which was a moderate flaw.

The first devices produced were the single crystal furnace, Vapor Phase Epitaxy Furnace, oxidation furnace, Magnetic Control Sputtering Platform, chemical mechanical polishing machine, Optical Lithography Machine, ion injection machine, Wire Bonding Machine, wafer dicing machine, and Wafer Thinning Machine.

These ten devices were materials production equipment for semiconductor wafers, and since there were no technological barriers to consider, and as the wafer equipment could be manufactured domestically in his previous life, complete production designs were available in IBMz15.

There was also one Optical Lithography Machine; he did not choose the top-notch nanometer lithography machine but instead prepared to manufacture a more manageable micrometer lithography machine.

Naturally, these devices all shared a common flaw: the lack of a control chip. Like the “industrial mother machine”, these devices were missing a critical core.

This represented a “chicken or the egg” dilemma, and Li Shiming’s solution was to make IBMz15 a versatile substitute, simulating the necessary control processes to manage these devices.

All these works were carried out by Li Shiming aside from his cultivation, using almost all of the time freed up because he didn’t need to sleep.

Three months had passed, in which he had purchased from Yun Ze goods worth more than two thousand spirit stones, many of which were mundane items.

He had to consider an important matter, the usage of so many mundane items and the origin of his spirit stones.

Currently, he had spent about four thousand spirit stones at Yun’s Trading House, a number which isn’t considered high but definitely wasn’t low.

Most Qi Refining cultivators couldn’t come up with so many spirit stones all at once, and even as an Array Master, because Li Shiming had only recently joined the sect, continued extravagant purchases would make it even harder to explain the origin of the spirit stones.

Having already spent four thousand spirit stones, he had reached the limits of what his identity could justify in a short term, and he needed to start considering how to acquire a reasonable source of spirit stones quickly.

The first batch of wafers had been produced, and due to issues with technology and experience, he was not satisfied with them.

Following the analysis by IBMz15, the key improvements were identified, but he didn’t want to waste this batch of wafers.

Today was a significant day; the micrometer-level optical lithography machine was officially starting, set to produce the world’s first micrometer-level chip.

He had not placed it in the small machine room space; to manufacture more advanced chips in the future, he needed some manufacturing experience with micrometer-level chips first.

The information from IBMz15 was plentiful, but actual manufacturing still differed from the documentation.

To speak of these three months, even if the manufacturing of the wafers and micrometer-level optical lithography machine was challenging, with the unmatched sharpness of the five-axis industrial mother machine and the aid of his spiritual thoughts, even some especially needed components could be sent into the machine room space to be completed by the control of third-grade sword bases, manufacturing these pieces of equipment shouldn’t take long.

However, he encountered many difficulties during this process; time slowly slipped away amidst repeated trial and error.

Fortunately, during these days, nothing disturbed him, allowing him to peacefully continue with his activities while cultivating.

Li Shiming activated a formation in an underground space, the air was expelled from within the formation, creating a temperature-stable environment similar to a vacuum.

This formation was meant for trapping enemies. For cultivators, losing air wouldn’t affect their ability to mobilize spiritual power for a long time; the effect of withdrawing the air was not significant.

However, it was the best choice for creating a sterile and dust-free environment, achieving this without the need for complicated filtration equipment.

Li Shiming did not need to enter the formation; he controlled the micrometer-level optical lithography machine with his spiritual thoughts, loading a cut wafer into the device.

A cable extended from the machine room space and connected to the micrometer-level optical lithography machine.

The world’s first chip was not an advanced design, but rather a product quite behind compared to his previous world.

As IBMz15 took control, the micrometer-level optical lithography machine started operating, its internal lights shining on the wafer’s surface.

Like printing a photograph, except it was transferring intricate designs onto the wafer’s surface, etching the required design circuits.

The micrometer-level optical lithography machine was just a tool; the actual precision work was carried out by the operations of IBMz15.

Waiting for the chips to emerge from the micrometer-level optical lithography machine, the first batch of 450 chips was successfully etched.

Afterwards, following the packaging process, the finished chips were not pretty, and even somewhat ugly, even more, their surfaces were marked with bizarre runes, all intended to confound.

Upon inspection, out of the 450 chips, only about 164 met the design standards, the rest were flawed rejects.
