Chapter 868: Chapter 858. Dramatic Act

The Incubus System Chapter 858. Dramatic Act

I extended my hand toward Larry, summoning my Demonic Spike skill. Sinister black lances materialized around me, hovering menacingly in the air like dark apparitions awaiting my command. I relished the dramatic effect; after all, a bit of theatrics never hurt in intimidating the opposition.

”Behold! Witness my power, humans,” I declared, infusing my voice with an icy edge. The lances, an extension of my demonic power, remained suspended, poised for whatever sinister purpose I willed.

’Hey! That’s cheating! I don’t know what to reply!’ -Larry.

His face mirrored the sentiment, a comical mix of confusion and panic. Despite the absurdity of the situation, I maintained the smug demeanor befitting an antagonist. It was an amusing tug-of-war between my attempt at intimidation and Larry’s struggle to keep up with the escalating theatrics.

’That’s your problem, dude. Not mine.’ – Ethan.

I stared at Larry. His expression clearly screamed, ’Oh C’mon!’

Feeling a tad generous, I decided to lend him a hand, albeit a mischievous one. Another bout of evil laughter escaped my lips. ”I see you pissed in your pants there. Is this too much for you?” I teased, attempting to give him an out, an excuse to save face.

His eyes widened in shock, and he hurriedly denied, ”No---” But I cut him off with a sly grin. ”Well, I’ll take my leave then. No point in making you uncomfortable,” I declared, deactivating my skill. The ominous black lances dissipated into nothingness, leaving behind a lingering sense of the dark aura. The act was intentional, a strategic retreat masked by theatrics.

Of course, I knew it hurt Larry’s pride and self-esteem, but I wasn’t finished with my mischievous spree.

I turned my attention to Nathan and his team, a self-satisfied grin playing on my lips. ”And as for you guys, I’m not interested in sparring with you,” I declared with an air of dismissiveness. Mockery danced in my eyes. ”Frankly, you’re all a bit too... fragile for my taste,” I added, my words dripping with condescension. The smirk widened as I glanced over their bewildered faces. ”Not as strong as this human,” I exclaimed, pointing to Larry, giving his pride back.

The effect was instantaneous. Nathan, seething with a barely-contained rage, attempted to break free from my telekinesis hold. Unsurprisingly, his struggles were futile, like a bug caught in a spider’s web.

Nonchalant, I let out a bored snort. ”Really, is this the best the esteemed Demon Hunters can do? Color me unimpressed,” I quipped, reveling in the audacity of my words. With a casual flick of my wrist, I opened a portal behind me, a clear signal that I was done with the circus act.

”See you later, Demon Hunters,” I waved casually as I glided into the portal, closing it with an air of finality. The encounter had been a perfect blend of intimidation, provocation, and a touch of comedic absurdity, a signature move in my ever-evolving repertoire of devilish antics.

Larry’s PoV

Larry couldn’t believe his luck as he stared at the spot where Ethan had disappeared. A pleased grin stretched across his face, and his chest swelled with an unparalleled sense of pride. ’Damn, I thought you would embarrass me!’ he couldn’t help but think, feeling a rush of gratitude toward Ethan. The last statement Ethan made was a godsend, it was going to elevate Larry’s reputation to new heights. The fact that Ethan had said it right in front of Nathan and the others added an extra layer of satisfaction.

His mind raced with thoughts of how this encounter could work to his advantage. Larry envisioned the Demon Hunters discussing the encounter, marveling at Ethan’s acknowledgment of Larry’s strength. This unexpected turn of events had just given him a considerable boost in the eyes of his peers.

Larry took a deep breath, using the momentary calm to collect himself after the intense encounter. His heart still raced from the adrenaline, but he needed to maintain his composure. With a calculated exhale, he steadied his nerves.

Turning to face Nathan and his team, who had been released from Ethan’s Telekinesis, Larry adopted a convincing expression of pain and discomfort. Limping slightly, he took deliberate, measured steps toward them. Every movement was a part of his act, a performance that aimed to sell the idea that he had just been in a fierce battle.

His act needed to be flawless to ensure that Nathan and the others bought into the narrative Ethan had unintentionally crafted. With a subtle wince, Larry continued his limping approach, fully committed to the act that would solidify his newfound status among the Demon Hunters.

Larry, still catching his breath from the supposed intense confrontation, feigned concern as he addressed Nathan and his team. ”Are you guys okay?” he asked, allowing a fake panting quality to creep into his voice. His act was on, and he knew he had to sell it convincingly.

However, instead of meeting his gaze, Nathan and his team’s attention seemed to be directed elsewhere, specifically, at Larry’s pants. Confused, Larry glanced down and quickly grasped the misunderstanding. They weren’t checking on his well-being, they were inspecting for any signs of his leak.

In an attempt to salvage the situation, Larry went into damage control mode. ”That demon is a liar,” he asserted, his tone shifting to one of righteous indignation. ”He used that excuse to run away.” Larry knew he had to discredit Ethan’s unexpected exit, painting it as a cowardly escape rather than a strategic retreat.

His eyes darted between Nathan and the others, gauging their reactions. Larry understood the importance of maintaining the illusion, especially since Ethan’s unintentional quip about their strength had inadvertently boosted his own standing.

”Really?” Nathan questioned with disbelief, his brows furrowing in skepticism.

Larry nodded, still feigning exhaustion. ”Yeah, he chickened out. Couldn’t handle the mighty demon hunter, I guess.”

Nathan exchanged glances with his team, a mix of uncertainty and confusion on their faces. ”But... he seemed pretty powerful. Are you sure he wasn’t just toying with you?”
